Making a Leather Clutch By Hand
This week we made a nice big leather clutch by hand. this leather clutch design is a project we're working to perfect, so this piece is hand made as a sample - it is close to being perfect, but it's not quite there yet!
For this project we used Weaver's new Pines Milled leather, and we really like it! It's soft enough to use for upholstery, but has a firm enough temper to make a beautiful bag or wallet.
You can get 10% off your order at our sponsor Weaver Leathercraft with code "DOGDAYS" from August 9-16th, 2019 :) - Jak na to + styl
your presentation's are deserving of our un-divided attention .
I love the simplicity of this. Two open pockets and a zippered one. Maybe a couple card slots.... but really that’s just nitpicking. I think it’s awesome. AND I think you guys are are awesome... so there! 🤪
Lol I just realized that this video was uploaded an hour ago. I only have to say that you do a great job, and I appreciate all the artisan work that people do, such patient and skill is not something that everyone has. Congratulations 😄
At several steps I was thinking "what is he going to do with those tabs?" And then it all made sense! Great video, please don't stop.
Thank you! We don't plan to :)
Corter Leather I Need to purchase the pattern but did not find on Etsy. Thank you.
its beautiful watching something come to life, i appreciate all the effort it takes
the craftsmanship is out of this world
Ваши видео просто релакс! Хочется смотреть и смотреть.)
Thanks for your great videos, ideas & your time for us.
I do like a light/dark combo. :)
Simple and elegant. Looks like a fun weekend project!
I would love this clutch with a magnetic closure. Have you ever worked with magnetic closure strips?
Another awesome video. I love watching your work. The silence is very peaceful and the camera work is great. Excellent job. Can't wait for the next one.
Great timing. I was looking for tutorial with something similar. Thanks
My imagination had me smelling the leather! This was a lovely video, so peaceful.
Excellent video tutorial once again! You’ve got some of the best views and your editing is perfection. Thanks for sharing another great one.
Magnifique, j'adore l'idée bravo
Totally gonna make this for a Christmas gift thank you!
That is an excellent design! Bravo!
Compacta, simples e linda 😍
Спасибо за отличный мастер класс!!!
Gusseted zippered items have always been a bit ominous to me, but this particular construction design and video has really demystified them for me.
Could you do a small segment on your saddle stitch (slower version). Love your work.
Good thing American cash are all the same size. Some places the notes get bigger with value so you need a bigger wallet.
I like your job. Tell me what you use for the edge processing
Of course I just placed an order at Weaver... hahahaha. Guess I'm just going to have to place another one for more stuff. 🤷♂️ 😜 thanks for the info. Beautiful piece!
I love this!!!
I love your work mate. Very talented, I so want one
Nice work! Thank's
It's awesome!!! Good job)
Nice job! That turned out wonder! 💋
Beautiful!
Thanks for your great video
Bellissimo!!!
Complimenti !
Tutorial fatto benissimo!
perfect!!! what kind of glue do you use?
Can you advice what and where are you buying your furniture like alpha buttons etc?
Handmade items like this, with all the folds and layers, can end up looking crude, but this looks great! My only suggestion would be to make it large enough to hold a cell phone in the zipper pocket, and maybe a wrist strap.
Thanks! The zip pocket holds an iphone :) great minds think alike - the final version will have an attachment for a wrist strap, we just had to make the first version to figure out where the best place for that attachment is!
Preciosa manejas muy bien el arte
Excellent work.
Bellissimi i vostri lavori grazie 😊

Thank you Master for your work and video! Do you have a training video where you show fans your way of sewing? If you don't, could you make a video like that? Thank you.. Like from AZE 🇦🇿
What brand of waxed thread is that? The one I have is okay but, I have to split it to come down thinner.
Круто! Простое практичное изделие. Вы сами разработали дизайн? Спасибо за видео!
Can you direct me to the exact pattern for this clutch? I see multiple like it on the website but none of them for this clutch. Thank you.
What kind of double-sided tape do you use?
Hello how many dm leather was used for this wallet?
я такую модель делал несколько раз...интересно было посмотреть на некоторые ньюансы...лайк!
What do you use to burnish?
That's no sample that's bloody fantastic and is easily a saleable product. I would say though as feedback from the wife, it needs card holders lol
Just wondering: how much did it cost for leather & hardware, plus how many hours work?
What kind leather you use?
is it possible to add some stacked cardslots?
Is all the leather you use veg tanned? I cannot get the edges to finish on anything but veg tanned.
Hi which camera and microphone model do you use while you are recording your videos? Thnx
How thick is the leather wich you used?
Where did you get the round hole punch?
I'm sure this has been asked/answered before but what is that cloth you're using? It looks like a small bag of some kind.
Did you mod your weaver edge beveler? I have a size 0 also but i find it hard to bevel thinner leather. Looks like you are using a 3oz or so? The beveler always hits the table so i was wondering if its worth grinding the tool down a bit
Nope! Just keep it super sharp with their strop board, then you'll see us edge thin stuff on the edge of the cutting board - that helps to get the piece high enough to edge without modding the tool :)
Awesome craftsmen-ship!
Nice work
İts beautifulllll
Mükemmel
Very good
Beautiful! I like the pouch in it, where I come from we still use a lot of coins.
Edit: okay I saw what leather you used in the Link 🤣 unfortunately I can't see what thickness you used for the veg tan leather. would you mind sharing which you used? 😊
This is 2-3oz veg :)
@@Corter Pines Milled is a Chrome Tan isn't it? But you lined it with veg tan? Does that make slicking the edges a problem?
Question: I've watched several of your videos now. I enjoy all of them. I was wondering what determines whether or not you use the silver metal cutting knife to 'scratch off' the edges of a piece of leather before gluing it to another piece of leather?I don't think you did that in this particular video, just straight piece to piece gluing. But in other videos, you scratch off the outside edges or sheer them off with that wide bladed 'chisel-looking' tool before gluing them together. What determines when you scratch/chisel? Thanks!
if the leather we're using is dyed and oiled, we'll rough up the gluing surface. If it's not (like in this video) we won't, as the natural veg tan is totally untreated so the glue sticks just fine :)
@@Corter Awesome. Thanks for the lesson!
Please tell me what kind of glue do you use to glue the leather?
They use weldwood contact cement, you can get it any hardware store. I use that also.
Totally awesome n sweet
I must be a budding designer because I like the design but I was thinking of ways to make it better. I wouldn't use a snap closure. I would put credit card slots on the interior where the snaps were and do some kind of chunky equestrian bridle jewelry looking enclosure on the outside.
Hi, this pattern is not available in the link, how can i get it? thanks!!
dmelendez72 Did you find the pattern as I cannot find it.
why dont you use the double sided tape to glue everything? is it harder to burnish?
The glue is a structural bond that adds to the strength, the tape is more temporary, and won't bleed through the zip.
👍🏻☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️,обажаю ваши видео!
Next make a glasses case
why do you sand after edge beveling, I thought the process was normally done the other way around?
We usually sand all edges down to 600 grit after beveling and before burnishing, it allows us to make a nice rounded edge
Showwwww!
I'm curious why you would burnish the edge of the coin pocket that will never be seen, down inside the clutch?
Adds moisture protection to the edge incase the wallet ever gets wet, plus it only takes a couple extra minutes :)
@@Corter Thank you. I always learn something from your videos.
What do you think is the best project for a beginner?
probably simple things like card holders - don't get too complicated to start, but you can work your way up to fairly complicated pieces quickly if you practice!
Thread's name?
I would love to see how exactly you stitch without s horse (: teach me please .. I’m trying to figure it out
keep checking his older videos I know I saw him demonstrate it somewhere.
😊👍
have you ever grind down "cutting board"; or wanted to?
Not sure what you mean by grinding down a cutting board? Happy to help if I can!
@@Corter sorry did not mean to ambiguous; the wooden panel under leather work;
looks old; and been worked on least 30 yrs; grind it down to fresh surface is what i meant;)
I'm interested to learn more about leather craft can you help me
👍🏻
no pattern for this up.
💗💗😍😍😘
I get it's a sample but two things I think could be alot better is stitching and the side finish polishing to get that fine layer of each peice.
Saya tidak merasa bosan saat melihat video kamu

Wonderful, but unfortunately not suitable for euro notes
I wish U make ur things to sell, I'm a make clothes, quilts, comforters, on a sewing machine.....
Can u send me ths one i ll pay u
They have a website where you can buy their stuff. It's linked in the description of the video.
The quality of the leather it's ugly and need polishing to be more shining
Too bad you have to keep incorporating shitty oil tanned leather to please da weave ;)
Very good
Please tell me what kind of glue do you use to glue the leather?
Barge or Weldwood
