  • The Benchmade Crooked River is a fantastic, classy, and great performing knife. But is it worth over $200? Watch the video to see my opinion, for what it's worth... not much but ya know, just watch it anyway :D

Love that knife !! After wanting one for a couple years I bought myself one for Christmas last year. The price went up to about $300, buy I didn't care. I wanted one. They were under $200 when I first saw them.

Good to know about the tip. Mines actually really pointy but I've heard that benchmade has been somewhat lax in the qc department. I guess I got lucky with my pointy tip but realistically I'm not gonna use such and expensive knife to pry things. Great review!

Hey Matt.... Late in video, you said blade was 35VN. Oops! The standard production run blades are S30V. ... I've purchased more than 20 Benchmades, beginning in the late 1980s. I really like their axis lock. I've never liked aluminum on a knife or firearm. That's probably an aversion I have since carrying an M-16 in the Vietnamese jungle in 1968. The anodizing was worn off where my right hand grasped the receiver, leaving shiny areas that reflected light. NOT GOOD. ... For years, I've thought the Crooked River would be an ideal outdoorsman folder if it just had a bolster of something other than aluminum. ... Life has gotten slower for me as I've aged and I'm a lot easier on my cutlery now than I was in my youth. ... I couldn't resist buying a Crooked River, in spite of the aluminum bolster. So I ordered one and hope it will arrive later this week. ... Regarding the fragility of the diamond wood scales adjacent to the lanyard hole, I wonder if you might be able to strengthen that area by inserting a metal tube into the lanyard hole? Hobby shops sell thin wall brass tubiing. Don't know if you could find the right diameter? ... Also you might consider a piece of solid brass rod. If you bought it a bit larger in diameter, you could chuck a short piece of it in a hand drill and gradually reduce the diameter with sandpaper until you got a good fit. ... For that matter, a small piece of orange plastic or G-10 could easily be fabricated to closely fit the lanyard hole. Then just epoxy the two pieces of them in place on each scale. That would certainly strengthen that area of the scales considerably. It'd also make your Crooked River uniquely yours. ... Thanks for the thoughtful and informative video, Matt. Big thumbs up!

Can anybody let me know what other Benchmade knives use the same screws as the crooked river ? Or what is the exact size of the screws used ?

Which screws? for the clip? When I lose screws, I contact BM and they usually sent them to me for free.

American made ( with Chinese cnc machines )!
The clone ,also made with Chinese cnc machines is $40.00,some with custom features !
Bencmade is not cusomer loyal ! And American made doesn't mean you don't have to compete !
