- The Dash 8 series of locomotives have a 7FDL-16 engine that generates 4000 hp. CN purchased 55 new Dash 8-40CM locomotives with the full car body including the Draper Taper. They also had a long term lease agreement for 25 Dash 8-40CW locomotives from GE's Locomotive Management Services (LMS - later LMSX). These spent 6 months on Conrail and 6 months on CN each year. After the breakup of Conrail CN purchased 12 of these units.
CN also acquired 26 Dash 8-40CMs when they purchased BC Rail. These units were add-ons to the original CN order but had been upgraded to Dash 9 specifications and 4400 hp by BC Rail.
Since 2010, CN has purchased 77 second hand Dash 8-40Cs from UP (some via CREX) neé CNW and 67 Dash 8-40CWs from BNSF neé ATSF.
Units from all these groups have come to Halifax and are seen in this video.
thank you for a great video ive gotten a lot of modelling ideas from this video thank you Andrew
Great catch my friend.
Great video of among my favorite railroads . Unfortunately manufacturers in scale models never designed the flat back( rear )versions of CN just the standard back semi curved designs I'm watching on this variety of 840 series. Would love to see them in HO Scale , N, O & G scale! 😃. This is my second viewing of your video gives me additional modeling & running equipment 💡 ideas.Thanking you.
Awesome shots
I used to be a train spotter. Our British version probably would be the "class 66" or "class 67". The old "class 37" was my favourite 😊
Awesome video david
Fantastic documentary of the Dash 8's. David with your permission would you mind if I shared this video with fellow rail fans on Rapido Trains? With the news this week of a Rapido Dash 8-CM HO Scale model I think your video could really get people excited for the new release.
+David Craig Yes please do.
BTW I am still waiting for my N gauge NAR nose decal, the correct exhaust stacks and the DC chassis for my N gauge NAR GMD-1- it has been over a year!!!
The blue LMS CONRAIL like leased engine has been scale modeled by ATLAS model trains in HO scale. I have The LMS in BACHMANN. 😃
Nice job!
+mainelinerailvideos© Thank you.

As of 2020, CN is slowly retiring their Dash 8s.
And as of April 2022 there is only a small handful currently running on ore trains.
@@TheUnflushedToilet However, all of the Ex-ATSF C40-8Ws are gone.
@@LocoRails79 Yes, I believe the only ones running are the standard cabs.
@@TheUnflushedToilet There’s 65 of them left. As for the C40-8Ms, there are some left, but not much.

4000 horsepower I believe is less than the AC6000CW,Which produces 6000 Horsepower.
+FECSD70M2 PRODUCTIONS That is correct.
David Othen YES!I'm correct! It's the same with the ES44AC,DC,C4,ET44AH,ES44AH too.I believe all of those only produce 4400 Horsepower.
+FECSD70M2 PRODUCTIONS I don't understand what your point is.
David Othen I'm also bringing in the Evoulution Series. All of them only produce 4400 Horsepower.
+FECSD70M2 PRODUCTIONS So I still don't understand the point of your comments
