A fun and easy way to make pillowcases for everyone on your holiday gift list. This tubing technique will hide all those seams.
Fabric requirements: 1/4 yd for sleeve, 3/4 yd for body and 1/8 yd for accent piece.
When the kids were little we gave presents in pillowcases. I figured I spent the same amount of money on gift bags, tissue, and string and it all got thrown away. A pillowcase they kept and used over and over again. - Jak na to + styl
Your instructions are superb. Every Christmas I make each of my grandchildren a flannel pillowcase. Even the 17 year old boy still looks forward to getting one.
Wonderful! First tutorial that I have seen where the actual sewing machine step is shown clearly - important for a beginner. Great video technique. Thanks
Thank you!
Great tutorial! I tried watching other videos and they made it way more complicated than it is. This tutorial explains the French seam technique simply and accurately. Thanks!
I have been fighting with trying to make some pillow cases for a quilt I made for my sisters 40 wedding anniversary. I absolutely could not believe i was having such a hard time making what i thought should be so simply. this demostration was great!!! I think i will make her pillow cases tomorrow and get them of to her. THANK YOU!!!!!
I'm fascinated by the quilt behind you!!!!! Great color choices!
Thank you so much for that tutorial it was very well done!!!! I really like the French seams, much neater than an ordinary seam.
Very clear tutorial. I also loved your tip on sewing/reversing starting down a bit from the edge so the project stays even! Worked great!! Thank you
Wonderful Laura, We appreciate hearing about your success! Thanks to everyone for the kind comments!
I've watched several videos on making pillowcases and yours is the best in my opinion. You make every step very clear. Thank you so much!
short, simple, and very easy to follow.
Thank you!
I am a beginner sewer and found this video very clear and easy to follow, I was able to put it on pause and complete the projects step by step. Thank you.
I really like the way Amiee does this tutorial. I have made all my Grandchildren a pillow case. Thank you
OMG- It looks so easy. Thank you so much for your helpful video. It was perfect. I wanted to contribute pillowcases for the 1 million campaign but was not sure how to do it with no raveling seams. Thanks again.
this was my first sewing project!! sooo easy to follow your easy instructions!! please do more projects for beginners!!
Excellent instructions ! You did a great job auditioning the steps to make this case. I had written instructions; never used them - I followed your video. Thank you!
Thank you Aimee, I am learning to sew and came across your video. You made that project look super easy. Thank you for posting.
You are a wonderful teacher. Keep up the great work.
Great tutorial & very detailed! I didn't know so many there were so many steps into making a pillow case.
Thank you for such a clear and precise video, great job, you spoke so clearly and you did not rush your proceedures, great job
+Darlene Dealy Thanks Darlene! Love what I do, I need to get back and make more videos. I hope you make lots of these!!!!!
I was going to take a class on how to do these. After this tutorial, I don't think I need to take the class. Can't wait to try this!!
I enjoy your video - lots of reminders of things already known so much appreciated.
How cute it would be to make a quilt label that looks like a little pillow - as 1 flat piece or as an actual pocket for a sweet note to be inserted 'open in emergency only' LOL
Fantastic video! Simple, clear instructions delivered at a pace one can easily follow. Excellent quality all the way! Thanks so much. ☺
Fantastic job! Super clear and easy instructions.
I like the way of finishing the side seams, now they don't look so ragged....I followed the other video on Missouri Quilt Co as well and it does make a nice pillow case to have the top seam hidden...I made a half dozen for the challenge.,,
I have a Pfaff too. Great machine. I notice that you didn't use the IDT system. I always use it because helps keeping the layers of fabric in place.
Great tutorial, thanks.
I'm going to make 2 of these pillowcases for gifts tomorrow. Thanks!
Great way to add a pillow case with the quilt I am going to send out. nice job !
Thank you so very much for this video! I am a self taught sewer and this has helped me tremendously!
Thank you for a well done tutorial. You make it seem so easy!
I like the pillow case the way you make
I always use this video when making pillowcases because it so very easy to follow the instructions!
This is so cool. You are an excellent teacher. Thank you for sharing. I never knew how to do this French seam. I thought the flat felled seam was a French seam, Your's looks so much easier.
Hi. I love the fabrics. Thank you.
@overallquilter I think they mean the end with the "sleeve" where it is open. There is nothing keeping the pillow from coming out the end you used to slip it into the pillow-case.
This amazing! Your instructions are so clear and make it so easy to attempt. Thank you so much. Please do more videos!
This was the Best and prettiest pillow case tutorial. What would the measurements be for a king size case?
I really like this pillow case tutorial! I plan to use it very soon!
Really cool! Thanks for the video. I love making pillowcases and will try your method.
@bkkcrafter Thanks for the great comment! The machine is sitting in a SewEzi table. It's a portable table. I host lots of retreats and it's easy to travel with it.
Awesome video--very thorough and nicely paced! Thank you
Thanks for that backtack technique. ❤
I've been making character pillow cases for my grand daughters and they love them.
Thanks Trish, I love quilting, guess it is always on my mind.
Will definitely add your technique to my collection!
Love the video. Could you give me an idea on sizes if the material is a one way directional pattern. Thanks!
Great video. Very easy to understand!
Thanks so much for this excellent easy to follow video, I am a beginner sewer and this will be sooo helpful !
Great tutorial, I even understood this one. Love it when that happens!
What a great tutorial!! Thank you for all great tips. Great Job!!!
This is my favorite way to make pillowcases!!
This pillowcase was was so simple to make.. I made a bunch to give to my children and grandchildren..
Thank you so much
Truly great tutorial can't wait to make one. Thanks for posting
Yes, I caught that once the video was all set, may have to retake as it drives me crazy too!
Thank you so much! No more store bought cases for me :)
Very informative and interesting tutorial. I had read these directions and was totally lost. Your video left me saying "Oh...yeah!!" Thank you for posting! You are an excellent teacher. :)
Thanks Barbara! The quilt is called Windows on Point and you can find it in our online shop under patterns.
i just made a set of these today.very fun ...thanks for the video
Love this method, just made a couple today.
I would like to make a pillow case for a body pillow. How much more fabric would I need? Thank you your directions were very clear. Jean wineke
Yes Janetta, everything does face up.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I learned a lot. Very good tutorial.
when you said "pivot" and 9:30, i couldn't help but think of ross geller. lol
@cristinaqueimado Yes, I love the IDT on the Pfaff machines it's what sold me on them. I've got my eye on an Expression 4.0. Glad you've enjoyed the videos, wait till you see the block of the month!
Really lovely I wish I had a huge top to work on. So clever x
Great job! I’ve been making pillow cases for years, a different way.... but this is cool! Going to try it. Your iron looks awesome, what kind is it?
very nice tecnique
Great tutorial - best pillowcase one I've seen :) Thanks
@mookieleigh Thanks and we will! Stay tuned for many more videos.
Extremely helpful. Thanks.
@Elementfifth I'm not sure what you are asking, is the pillow case too big? if it is just shorted the length or take a larger seam.
Aimee
Well done! I loved the video.. I am off to make a pillow case for my grand daughter.
thank you for this interesting idea continuez à nous donner de bonnes idées comme celle ci cela ne fait que nous stimuler davantage merci
@molnijaburia24 I make lots of these pillow cases, especially when the kids were little and had birthday parties to go to. They make great gift wrapping, something they can keep instead of a bag that gets thrown away.
Thanks for watching!
Could you please do a tutorial on the fitted sheet please
@rmsmith2000 Thanks, we're working on more videos, our next few will be a Block of the Month and I think I've found a great tool for making prairie points.
Thank you, you are the best!
Thank you for sharing I made 4 damask and black trim satin pillow cases thank you 😍😍😍
Hi! I used a Pfaff Tiptronic 2020.
I have a question. I want to add words to the top flap of the pillowcase and applique them on before I make the pillowcase. On that pink fabric what ends up to be the outside so that I will put the words on the right side? I hope this makes sense! Barb
I will be making 2 different patterns of pillowcases to take to my two granddaughters in KS (I live in GA), when they're baby sister is born late May, 2013). I'm planning on making as many as I can for the Million Pillowcase Challenge. IF my local Hancock's or Joan's doesn't participate in this challenge, do you now where I can mail them to? GREAT tutorial. BTW, I use the folded method instead of the fan - I find it easier for me to keep things tidy. I didn't even notice you kept saying quilt.
I love the paisley fabric you used. Where is it from?
I love your background.
are you able to make a video showing how to attach a ruffle to a pillow top going around the corners with a serger? I was told recently that I can attach, GATHER and serge all at the same time to making a slip cover pillow. I have been playing around with my serger and I can get around three sides but when it comes to the final fourth side, I run into trouble. Would you be able to do a video showing how you do this? I would really appreciate it!
nice pillow case
Man your pillows must be huge in America! I reckon that size pillowcase would fit 2 New Zealand standard pillows! Beautiful design though, but no inside cuff to tuck your pillow into, it would slip out.
@nanad1956 Thanks! I do have a couple of patterns for easy bags and napkins, we'll be adding them to our membership site.
Hi Barbara! The sleeve sits right side up, and lettering right side up as well. That should make the sleeve right once you sew it all together. Take a picture and send to us when you are finished. I'd love to see it!
I seen your beautiful unfinished quilt on the wall behind you and at your into... :) I did notice that you will have to finish your quilt w/ that dreaded "Y" seam or side set triangle. Is it possible for you all to post a tutorial on how to do this?? It would be sooo appreciated. Thank you!! :)
@overallquilter no if you do it like this the opening si wider as the length of the pillow case - shouldn't be any way to make the opening - so the side where you introduce the pillow into the case smaller ...do I make any sense? so the opening is not open all the way on the pillow case length
Thank you for this Video, LOVED it all but the Quilt on the wall is beautiful what is it? what is the name of the pattern? info on it?
Barbara from Kissimmee, Fl.
thank you ~ great video and if I could make a beautiful quilt like you did~I would have it on my mind too~! Keep up the good work and ignore the negative comments~I love my new case~thanks to you~!
You would need to make the top - pink - piece much longer. The length of the inside fold that is normally found on pillows. An extra 6 - 8". You will then have this pocket on both the top and bottom of the pillow - makes for even wear of the sides in the long run.
You should back stitch at the end of your last seam completing the french seams, right?
Very nice!
Awesome idea!! Thanks so much for sharing. One question: you started with 42" fabric but later the pillow case appeared much smaller. Am I correct in assuming you cut it in half? Thanks!
I don't think she cut it in half. With making the French seams, it takes up more of the fabric than just a regular seam.
thank you
Thank you very much! 😎🌸
I accidentaly cut my fabric and inch or two too short. What do I do? Do I have to buy new fabric or is there some way to save it?
I am confused asto what length and breadth i should take for a pillowcase 75cm by 47 cm? I
Would you happen to know the size to make a King Size pillow case with this technique? thanks sew much :)
