  • The SegaScope 3-D came out for the Mark III at the same time as Nintendo's Famicom 3D System, but Sega saw fit to release their peripheral in the US for the Master System as well.
    Also in stark contrast to Nintendo, Sega developed all of its own 3D games. Check them out in Part 2 of our Retro 3D Special!

    That last part was a joke. We should be able to capture the video fine. The real issue is priorities. I do apologize it has taken so long. We are trying new approaches to prevent that from happening in the future. Hopefully the summer-to-fall run of episodes was an indication of what we want to do in the future, but often there are outside factors that get in the way which we can't control. We're hoping to do something soon to help mitigate those issues. Stay tuned!

    Nice Scott Pilgrim reference (when you KO’d Sean by unplugging the glasses and he turned into a pile of coins). That definitely went over my head the first time I watched this video, great flick indeed!!!

  • @SeanOrange
    @SeanOrange  Před 12 lety +1

    Well, there's one of two things I can think if that you mean. 1) There's a Japanese SMS that has a cartridge slot which lets you use all those backwards-compatible games, since the SMS (in Japan and the US) is just a repurposed Mark III. 2) You can use the expansion port an an American SMS to add a cartridge adapter that will let you plug in SG-1000 series and Mark III games. MexicanWaluigi has a video about it! ;)

  • @SeanOrange

    Real D and other film glasses use polarized light to send a different image to each eye. The projector overlays both images at once, but only one eye sees each of them. The Famicom 3D System and SegaScope 3-D both used LCD shutters, because these systems would alternate the image each frame in an interlaced fashion, and the shutters were timed to when each frame is drawn (hence why they need power). That's why it doesn't work on LCD TVs -- the refresh rate is too fast.

  • @SeanOrange
    @SeanOrange  Před 12 lety

    So usually I like to play coy, but in this case I think a straight answer is warranted.
    It was superseded by the question "Where is (the rest of) Season 2?" The 3D Special sort of shoehorned its way in there because of the release of the 3DS, which made the Famicom 3D System quite topical.
    It's on the docket, but after this news HUGE slate of Famicom Dojo we're currently filming and editing.
    Also... do you know how hard it is to capture video from an actual Virtual Boy? :P

  • @SeanOrange
    @SeanOrange  Před 13 lety

    @LarryBundyJr Yeah, I think that was the guy whose video I saw about the PAL version of the SMS glasses.
    The 3D games weren't terribly expensive here. The only reason I don't have OutRun or Line of Fire is because I literally couldn't find them listed anywhere! I think the most I paid for any one of these games was $15 (often much less), which I think comes out to £10.
    Man, I don't even have that character on my keyboard! Good thing you typed it first. ;)

    @therealhardrock I was marginally aware of the Master System. When I was younger, I remember there being a SUPER CHEAP bundle of Altered Beast and a console, but at the time I thought it was a Genesis. Upon reflection as an adult, I realized it must have been for an SMS bundle, because the Genesis had just come out at the time, and TurboGrafx-16 was gearing up. I knew of no one who owned the Master System, but plenty of people who had a Genesis. Marketing is everything!

    Actually we like old games a lot. Space Harrier was a bad port so I guess we were down on that a bit, but I like the 3D system. And we didn't swear once (I think) so our humor might not be to your taste (and possibly not funny at all), this it not (or at least not trying to be) a copy of AVGN. He does his own thing and does it well, no need for another one.

  • @SeanOrange
    @SeanOrange  Před 13 lety

    @Progearspec Yeah, that's the drawback for trying to review/show 3D games when there's no good way to display it.
    It seems like there are videos out there on CZcams that puts the interlaced 3D video into CZcams's 3D format so you CAN actually watch it in 3D. I don't think you're able to intercut 2D video with 3D video, but maybe if we figure out how to get it to work we can release special all-3D versions of these episodes in the future! :D

  • @SeanOrange
    @SeanOrange  Před 12 lety

    d00d, I HAVE tried. I wouldn't have answered your question if I hadn't investigated it first. The pins on an SMS are narrower, the board thinner than a Mark III game's board, and that's even if the Mark III game would fit through the SMS slot (which it won't). The only want to do it is through the expansion port.
    Now, what you CAN do is play Mega Drive games on a Genesis 3, because the slot is wide enough to accommodate the cartridges. But that's 16-bit.

      Yeah, we didn’t follow up in these last... ugh... seven years.
      It started with logistical challenges of filming Virtual Boy games, then Phil’s Virtual Boy BROKE. We’re exploring other alternatives.

      So you guys are currently still looking for other ways to make part 3?

    @Tubewings It was supposed to be a ninja. But yeah, I am not sure that it looked right.

    @LarryBundyJr Well, PAL TVs have a different refresh rate. I don't know if the glasses themselves would need to be different; the game might interface in a way that sets the refresh rate on the glasses -- but I have no way of knowing that for sure. I'm just fairly certain I saw a video about them, but can't seem to find it now! :/

    HEY, Hey, hey.... Vectrex wasn't that popular in the US but in the good old PAL regions it was far more popular due to it having it's own screen and it was a rarity for people to have multiple TV's.

    Don't we mention that? I'm pretty sure we do.
