- Meet CDTX9302, Amtrak San Joaquins’ and Amtrak’s first ever Siemens Venture Cabcar. We were here in Martinez, California, U.S.A. as this first of a kind cabcar for the United States takes its first test run from Oakland/Jack London to Bakersfield, California.
Under the symbol AMTK868, Cabcar 9302 leads the test train into Martinez station to perform a simulated stop to later depart with F49PHI 2004 (CDTX2004).

FINALLY! I was waiting to see any posts of these leading on whatever Amtrak services, and there we go! That horn sounds very solid.

It sounds no different than the normal Charger horns, it’s ordinary to me….
I was waiting so long since it was built to be testing. But anyways, the horn sounds like a SD70ACE-T4.
You all are incorrectly identifying the horn lol, it's a raised letter K5LA, the same horn used on some P42s, the majority of the COASTER cab cars, most chargers and the SD70ACE-T4.
Finally a new K5LA that doesn't sound like it's been crunched
I feel like the ALC-42s sound the same but I might be wrong idk

Great to see these things up and testing if it weren’t for the SC-44s having a stroke in the heat and getting temporarily banned of the Bakersfield sub that would’ve been Amtrak California’s first fully Siemens set
I wonder if the derate on the ALC-42 will help with the heat issues. I know Brightline has no issues in the Florida heat, but theirs are de-rated to 4000hp. Also funny that the Chargers overheat in hot weather, but also overheat in snow when the radiators get clogged up with snow.
@@mrvwbug4423 Interesting you bring that up. I understand the performance of the ALC-42's on The Empire Builder last winter wasn't good at all. But I had no idea the SC-44's overheat in the summertime.....

I thought the ditch lights flashing would be like the SC-44s but they ended up being like the ALC-42s.

That’s because the cab car is a newer product, it doesn’t actually have anything to do with being similar to the SC-44 or ALC-42. For example, some of the newer Coaster SC-44s have ditch lights that flash like an ALC-42.

Probably to match the charger variant CalTrans already has
Because San Jaoquins uses SC-44s so they got the nose cones to match them.
They apparently expect less carnage on that route. The extended nose cones on Brightline are more to make crash damage easier to repair than for aerodynamics, even though they're the only Chargers actually operating at 125mph.
@@mrvwbug4423 I meant like why won't they use the ALC-42E charger looks. In my opinion, they look much better the the current model. Also, are they going to remove that weird hump on the back of those chargers once the single level venture cars are in use, it looks kind of silly.

With F59PHI #2001 filling in, It leads me to believe the SC-44 was down for maintenance.

Temporarily not using them in the Central Valley to help them avoid overheating in the high temperatures.

There needs to be some actual flow from the blue line running through the windows to the cab. The straight vertical line from the cab to the coach just looks awful IMO. Don't even get me started on the way those ditch lights flash.
Dark Blue Panels between the engineer's cab window on the front would've been better than silver ones.
Everything is absolutely beautiful but honetly I think the livery could have been better.
I was riding the San Joaquins regularly for work in Bakersfield and Fresno. But now I'm no, not on those cars. It's too long without a cafe car.

I’m not sure how I feel about the double deck cars being retired….
They're not being retired. Caltrans is just shifting them to the Capitol Corridor. The Comets are being retired, but they are very old and pretty atrocious.
As Toha said above they won’t be retired just moved to the Capital Corridor and Iv been hearing that the Alstom built California Cars are gonna be moved to the Surfliner in order for them to handle the 6 Car sets and should allow Amtrak to get their Superliners back
If the Talgos taught us anything, it's that over-engineered, semi-articulated cars with automatic doors with little steps that come out aren't always a great idea. Just more shit to break and cause delays.
