Ireland is an extremely old-fashioned country with a crumbling society, largely poor infrastructure and the same low-quality people you'll find across the UK and much of North America.
If you feel thrown back to the past when going to Britain, it's at least as extreme in Ireland.
If you're really old-fashioned and truly enjoy the provincial insular mentality prevalent in much of the global anglosphere, you'll feel right at home in miserable old Ireland.

Yes, I'm an Irishman living in Ireland and am thoroughly familiar with Ireland and its opportunities and problems, and the GDP figures for Ireland are massively inflated due to the insane amount of Ireland's GDP accounting for multinational's earnings, so much so that the Irish statistics bureau had to invent their own special GDP publishing methodology to be able to reflect something closer to the real GDP here through a separate, modified GDP-variant. This isn't as widely known though.
The Irish Central Bank published a report during the last decade in which they admit that the living standard achieved in Ireland is roughly equivalent to HALF that achieved in the U.S. for the average income, which means that you'll need to earn at least double of what you're making in the U.S. to even stand a fighting chance for a similar standard of living in Ireland, a country usually paying much lower wages than the U.S. would pay.

It is true that Utah and Minnesota have historically being doing more for effective upward social mobility than just about most other regions in the USA.
      To be more specific:
Longitudinal studies about this topic have brought to light that upward social mobility in the USA is significantly more available to females in recent decades than for males.
In fact: The only (!) metropolitan region in the USA with any significant positive (above average) measured (and therefore proven) potential for upward social mobility specifically for males is and remains the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul in Minnesota.
To my knowledge no such evidence exists to suggest this to be as true about Utah's metropolitan region(s), or any other metropolitan areas in the USA, as far as significantly higher (than average) upward social mobility for males is concerned, which is the key differentiator in terms of overall fairness.

The best place depends on your stage in life and your personal circumstances. I am an American retiree which is a particular demographic. Where is the new “American dream” for me? I have no need to get a great education. I had that. I don’t need to start a business and build a career. I need comfort and safety. If you are honest then the US is nothing special on the list of possibilities. Now comfort may be being near friends and family and familiar places and culture. We can easily come up with a good list of reasons not to move abroad but when you become financially independent and retired that loosens the ties quite a bit. I believe too many retirees who are in a position to move overseas are stuck in the psychological trap of America being “the greatest country in the world” - why would I leave? You can still love or at least appreciate America and still go where you are treated best.

I think many good qualities in American culture contributed to it's hegemony, power, finance, strength, structure and it is still rife with opportunities. But I think the post war years and the union culture birthed a generation that thought that they are entitled to something, ie the American dream.....my 8th grade educated grandparents in the 40s and 50 had a union job, house, boat, car, 4 kids, big yard, vacations to Canada...etc...impossible with a one household "job" held by an 8th grade educated person today....then their kids think that is normal, but then find it isn't then have to adjust their expectations begrudgingly, then so on and so on....at this point...the cost of housings is 5 times what it was in comparison to income, so this is a bit of why folks are looking for the American dream in Timbuktu. It is the same spirit of life improvement that drove folks to US 100 years ago and frankly 300 years ago, it is just looking in different places now.

Very average people in regards to skills and education were able to achieve a high standard of living that future generations absolutely took for granted would be theirs as an inherit right to being American.
Now, to achieve a similar level, you usually need to be highly educated and willing to make sacrifices (number of kids, both spouses working, etc.).
That classic American dream still exists, but requires a hell lot more effort and diligence to obtain and maintain.

I moved to Baja Mexico 13 plus years ago with 2,000 in my pocket. Now at 59 years old I do not have to work. All my money and it is where I live. All eggs one basket and would not have done it different, nor will I in tje immediate future. There are a lot of opportunities here in Mexico. The peso has been the best performing money in the world and probably will continue. Which along with getting more than 10% and as much as 20% in fixed income products with minimal tax. How do you beat this when the peso has gained more than 5% to tje dollar year after year for more than 4 years and no reason for it to stop.
Plus I literally love 20 minutes from San Diego so it is not like living 1,000s of miles away.
I would not do it different if I had the option to redo my past 13 plus years.

Why then do so many flee Mexico for the US?

So you are one of those who believe the media? The truth is for the last 10 plus years there are more people moving to Mexico, than Mexico to the US. It was different 20 plus years ago, the US had a lot more to offer. But times are changing.
