  • Modern Sonnet 258. And Having Risen . . .
    - for Kerry Anne’s Art Exhibition -
And having risen, heard the canvass call
For brighter pictures, celebrate the land
    I stand upon. I color. I control
The weight of hope with hands and brain unbound,
Till hope spreads brazen, hope seeps, hope explodes
And hope will thicken, hope corporeal
Now strong enough to hold us! Hope-makes roads
That lead us up, and out, and on, until
The journey calls for context, calls for frame:
That jolt we feel when art calls to be made
    Exhilarates and stimulates, proclaims
Our past demands its presence on the page.
On hope-bright roads, art brought me here tonight,
To stand before these seas within the light.
    Andrew Barker.
This sonnet's position was rearranged within the collection after the recording.
