Preeti Das thank you for summing the video up this actually really helped
♥️
This is the first video about curly hair that mentions things sistematically. I really appreciate it. Other youtubers tend to jump around the topic which sometimes makes it hard to follow, but your way of explaining was amazing. ♥
I Can't stand the satin pillowcases so I wear a satin bonnet at night and in less than a month I saw the frizzy "trouble areas" drastically reduce.
Hi Heather! Will you include a link to the type of bonnet you use? I don't like satin pillowcases either. :)
For me it’s the other way around
@SomethingReallyStrange you can try sleeping in a bonnet for a month and see how it goes :)
@SomethingReallyStrange it will probably reduce frizz but I am really not sure about the greasy part
@SomethingReallyStrange - You may actually be washing it too often. It will take time to transition but try to add in a day to your routine. If you're already going 2 to 4 days between washes, you may need to try deep clarifying once a month to get rid of build up. Also, apple cider vinegar rinses once a month will help to both get rid of build up and seal your cuticle which will increase shine. These are all steps I did when my hair was straight, before menopause. 🙄 Remember, frizz is curl waiting to happen! 😁
Its been so amazing to finally see your channel grow and you getting the attention your high quality content derserves, loves from Germany
You are so beautiful and I love your sense of humor. You’re videos are amazing! Thank you for helping me love my curls ❤️

Jannelle- great “how to video” Looking for falling in love with my hair again! Thanks for sharing and educating all of us out here.
I’m obsessed with your channel, I found this channel yesterday and I’ve just been binging these videos!
Love love love this video, been doing CG method for 8 months already but this video was still super helpful! Thank you Jannelle!
I have exactly your hair type and love your personality. Do you know how long I have wrestled w my hair and always wanted long straight hair, not realizing how beautiful my natural curly hair can be! So happy I found you Janelle!
I needed this video sooo bad! After 28 years I finally decided to stop fighting my curls by straightening it all the time and am starting to embrace my hair as it is- curly. I seriously didn't know where to start so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Love your sense of humor
I'm fairly new on my wavy hair journey. This was a great video. Thank you for all the great tips.
Yes! The hardest thing to do is accept the curls on my head and not try to make them something else. I keep finding new things out about my hair, and I'm so glad I found this video! Thank you!
I left my hair for YEARS after straightening every day, bleaching and coloring my hair, etc. and I FINALLY got a haircut today. It was down to my waist but after getting rid of all the dead ends and dry grossness it's about your length. This video is super helpful I cant wait to try your tricks!
You are just the cutest curly Girl on CZcams I've ever seen! Ur personality is just so beautiful it makes you shine! I enjoy your videos. Thank You! Keep shining!
There are so many curly girl youtubers but I love how volumised your curls are.
I'm just preparing to start my curly journey and I found your video so helpful!! Thanks for the great content!
You're amazing! I'm going to start my curly hair journey right now! I believe that I'm in the same category as you Jannelle. I have low porosity and I need moisture in my hair. Seeing your hair before your curly hair journey looks exactly like how my hair looks like now. I cant wait to see my end result ❤❤❤❤❤
Where have you been my whole life!?! Today starts the journey so thank you 💓
Awesome basic overview of the important things to do to start the curly hair journey! Definitely need your last point of letting go of expectations. I’m only on my 2nd day and I’m already putting such high expectations on myself because of wanting instant gratification, but yes, I need to remember this is a process!
Thank you so much for all the information Jannelle. I'm so glad I found you approximately 1 year ago. I love that you are so passionate and really appreciate all your effort. Your Facebook group is so lovely, kind and helpful.
I really liked your curl description using your hands!! LOL I love your videos. They make me happy.
Janelle, I watched this video about two months ago at the beginning of my CG journey. I re-watched it today and am so glad I did. So many things I did not understand before make so much sense now. You did an excellent job of putting a lot of info into this one video, but I was so ignorant before I did not understand it all. I would advise everyone to watch this video a few times to give yourself time to let it sink all in. :)
Thanks for the beginner info Janelle! I’m in my 4th month of CG and have more frustration days than not 😩 but I’ll stick with it and hope it gets better!
Sheldon is adorable ♥️
You are my FAVORITE curly! Thank you for helping me start my journey! Also we have very similar hair with low porosity and curl type so you are my go to curly girl! Thank you!

Terrific video.
I love how methodical and thorough this video (and the rest of your videos!) is! Thank you for the information. I would love to see a video that goes over the different application techniques, and the circumstances/hair characteristics that tend to be most amenable to each technique. Or maybe you've done this already? Thank you for another awesome video!

I just started my curly hair journey on Tuesday, and just requested to join your facebook group today. I was going through my pictures and realize I haven't had a profile picture featuring my naturally curly hair since March of 2013. 7 YEARS ago. My poor hair :( Thank you for sharing your journey with us and for all your advice. I am going to learn how to love my curls.
Love your channel and your IG,! So useful!
You cracking yourself up with the teacher voice makes this so enjoyable to watch hahaha
This motivates me ! Thanks! 😘
New Subber. Fabulous Channel. I have struggled my entire life with what I called my 'Q-Tip hair. Frizz galore. Fuzzy head. Learning so much from you. Thank you.
Great Video! just starting out about a month and a half out. tnx for the great info!!
Hey, Jannelle! Great video! I am a newbie curly-girl and am beginning my journey. An auburn ringlet headed little girl with blue eyes morphed into a brown very thick, wavy haired, green eyed lady. Who knew? After fighting with my hair for umpteen years, I gave birth to a ringlet headed daughter. People would look at her, look at me and ask, where does she get her curls? A few delusional people actually asked if I curled my 2 year olds hair! Oh, yes! That’s our Mother/Daughter bonding time! She kept her curls pulled back into a tight bun until, at 13, after watching a Julia Roberts movie where her curls free & I convinced her to give it a try. The reaction at school was sensational! Compliments galore, time saved not fighting with her hair but the best was taking pride in her curls. My curls started making a S L O W comeback after menopause. I noticed hairs at the base of my neck were curly first, then it started to spread. I ended up with straight hair on top until my ears then curly the rest of the way down. AGH!!! After years of spending countless dollars getting my hair blown dry straight, being afraid of humidity (I live in FL) and terrified of rain, I knew it was time to see my real hair. I was shocked how curly my hair was just on its own. Now my grown daughter was counseling me on the curly hair movement and how to get started. So, now I’m following the spiraling brick road to the Land Of Locks. Waiting for my package with all my new goodies to arrive, I’ve been researching, reading and trying new methods like wrapping my hair around my fingers after putting in an obscene amount of leave-in conditioner. To my surprise, my ringlets are returning mixed in with s’wavy curls. I cannot wait to see my reflection a year from now after traveling on my journey and truly embracing what grows out of my head! I look forward to watching videos, finding groups and using that awesome looking head scratcher because, damn, my scalp itches! 💋
Thank you for sharing your tips. One thing I would recommend would be to check out the book "Curly Girl" by Lorraine Massey to learn about the curly girl method!
Thank you so much Janelle!!!!!!
Gorgeous 😍😍 thanks for your videos!!
I love your laugh and giggle!!
@kinziesaxey
Thank you for this video!! I was wanting to give up because I’m frustrated with my lack of results and the overwhelming amount of information. This was VERY helpful! Thank you for giving us curlies a platform ❤️
Hi Janelle! I love your curls. I'm a brand new subscriber watching from London.
@cfvetkid from instagram here to say I love your videos! You've been immensely helpful during my CG journey. Thank you!!
omg my hair looks EXACTLY like your before picture lol that’s so awful. thank u for making this video ❤️
This is an amazing starting video! Wish you had made this two months ago 💓 but so glad it’s here now 😍 and just so you know, you are funny 😜 it’s one of my favorite things about you! Thank you 💕
Cassi Brown I’m glad the two of us think so! 😂 do you have any questions or what you could use help with now that you’ve started! It was suggested above to do an intermediate video and I think that could be fun.
Oooh that’s a good question! You have so many videos that cover pretty much every bump in the road so I don’t know! I’m anxiously waiting to see your vlogs and videos from your haircut 👀👀👀 but I’d love to see some diffusing tips & tricks or comparisons of blow dryers and other tools for curly hair. That sounds weird the way I typed it out but maybe like a diffuser quick start guide! I know there’s a ton out there that people love and hate 💓 I also love routine videos 🙃
So inspiring.. been wanting todo this journey.. Coming from Instagram
Love it all Jannelle ❤️
Literally paused at 8:25 and bought some pretty, dark green satin pillowcases online. That was the most convinced I've felt in a long time 😂
Excited for bed tomorrow night!!!
How do we know what curl type we have when we’re first starting out? I know I was born with curly hair, i don’t have too many pictures of me with curly hair when I was really young because the pictures weren’t the best quality and my mom cut my hair into a bob and blow dried it all the time. All I know is my parents said my hair was very curly like ringlets. I just don’t know how curly and what type of curl I actually have because I didn’t let my hair do it natural thing for a long enough period of time to know. I would straighten my hair half way through elementary school and all through high school except for maybe a week out of the month I would leave it natural and it seemed more of like a 2B/2C at that time but again I don’t know how much more it can curl because of what it’s been through. I also have very fine hair, hold moisture very well and dries fast , gets frizzy easily. So over all I’m confused as to what type of curl I have etc. All I know is my hair is thin, gets weighed down by products very easily.
So far right now it’s been a week of natural hair no heat except for diffusing and my hair is so far a 2c in the top and towards the ends a 2B but I can tell they want to be tighter. I don’t have any volume either and don’t know how to get volume. Sorry for the overload but if anyone could help me i would be grateful 🙏🏻
I want to thank you 🙏 for all you do and for being so real for all us curlies. I have been doing the cgm religiously since January or February 2018. My hair is in its own category...aging + health issues. I get the product thing figured out, the DevaCut and all and then my hair goes through something else. It’s a constant study, almost, trying to figure out what’s going on. Sometimes I feel my Hair doesn’t measure up for me to be posting selfies of myself but gotta do it to keep up with my progress(??). Love you Janelle. Grateful, @judyscurls.
Your hair is beautiful and your videos are so helpful! This is random, but you favor Claire from Outlander! Very beautiful!
I learn so much from you
It’s amazing
Looooove
I’m confused I just notice all this curly hair..on you tube and I’ve always wondered why I can’t just leave the house without straightening my hair or doing something to my hair I have extremely frizzy hair high volume but now I noticed that it’s super dry...I really can’t do nothing with it. So I started researching about hair and came up to all of you guys..the curly hair girls..I’m not to sure but I think I have curly hair..So I’m just starting this journey I’m hoping it works for me.. 🙌🏻😉😁 but Thank you so much 😊 you have been extremely helpful 💕
Just read your comment and I’m curious to know, do you have curly hair?!
Frizz is just curls waiting to happen! 😁
Love your videos Jannelle! Could you identify some items that are cheaper that work for those of us who may be on a budget? Thanks!
Brava!! Thanks for sharing.
@curlsandtwirlsfordays I love all you videos. Thanks for teaching so much and spreading the love!
Woaaahhh it’s weird that I have just searched up how to care for my curly hair and this video was just uploaded 10 mins ago??
kkochismile I am shocked that it was searchable that quick! 🤯
I wish I could make it to your event in San Diego! Have fun!
Please make a video of the different application methods!!🙏🏻 I just love the way you explain everything
Great video very informative as usual 😀 Love your nail polish....what colour/brand is it???
Lovely curls ❤
Great info.!
My biggest issue is that I have to wear my hair up and in a hair net for work. My hair is thin and I don't have a lot so I have a lot of breakage! I use one of those scrunchy less damaging hair ponies and that has helped!
Thank you so much! I follow you from the beginning of my Journey! Love your Videos on Instagram! Lovely greetings from Germany elsa.curly from insta ♥️
Just found your channel today. Going to Subscribe! You hair looks like my curls except my hair is frizzy. Lol. I need to start being healthy with my hair.
13:45 you are the funniest and the sweetest 😍 many thanks for your help and support
Thank YOU! ❤️❤️❤️
@@JannelleOShaughnessy can you please shear with us all the applying methods that you tried to apply your deep conditioner? I cant understand my hair the curly last one day or few hours only once I sleep or put it up it gone. I read about that mean the curly need more hydration so I tried many mask noting work but when I tried shea moister deep conditioner my hair hold the curly to the second bay but not more than that. I'm using stain bellow-case, satin lined cap and heat deep conditioning cap. my hair mix of 3a/3b
