How Germans Divided by the Berlin Wall Felt When It Fell

- In November 1989, the Berlin Wall fell after 28 years dividing the German city in half. East Berlin was the communist side and cut off from western culture and the ideas of West Berlin. The wall, which was a massive concrete structure that ran through the city like a vein, was surrounded by armed guards on both sides. Thirty years ago, the wall began to crumble as East Berliners pushed for unification and communism began to fall in Europe. As the wall fell, Inside Edition was on the front lines and met with people from the East as they started their new lives in the West. #InsideEdition
If only North Korea citizens could be freed like this.

Because if someone even tries to leave, they, their families, and anyone who is related to them will be killed. They have no freedom whatsoever.

I can't believe that next weekend will mark 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. Probably the last important event of the 80s. I wasn't even born back then but for some reason it makes me sentimental just to see the shock and sheer gratitude following the fall.
My grandpas parents lived 2 blocks from the Berlin wall. And my sister traveled Europe and she bought a postcard with a piece of the Berlin wall. It was pretty cool
Brent Tanner do you really want illegals coming in

@@joelisatorres4277 Right!! I was in 3rd grade. I remember this happening and all the media surrounding it. I can't believe it's been 30 years. Wow!!
When my grandfather was in the army he was in Berlin where the wall was up and he was there when the wall fell down.
Anton Volchenkov no he joined the army in 1973
was he from East or West Germany?
He was in west Germany because he was a u.s soldier
My uncle was in the marinecorps as apart of a allied border guarding Thing he was there the day the wall fell

@William Trepanier Right, in a way
This is why it makes me so angry when people think communism is a good idea.
Well it's a good concept but it never gets executed properly
@@sorinvladu7021 It's not even a good concept as it's undemocratic, there is no point at all for you to work hard in your life as you@ll never achieve anything and it's essentially a dictatorship.
Do you think i want communism?
It was an idea were at a time the Russian masses experienced oppression although I wouldn't fully blame the Romanovs
But the people think not, they wanted an idea where the power will be given back to them and a Government that would be fair with the Rich and Poor but yet again it became worse when it was took over by a Dictator and the idea of an equal society diminished by Greed and Violence.

My mom was there when the wall fell. She and her friends were there when they were taking the wall down and she was able to convince the workers to let her have a go and to keep the pieces of the wall. My grandma was actually born on the East and was brought to the West by her grandfather who served in WWI and was allowed to travel to both sides for business. It’s so crazy to think about the history of my family and what they went through over on the East.

Jordan Thomas Well our topic was about about World War
This makes me want to cry to see them finally free in their own country
I would love if Korea would unite like this but I’m pretty sure Kim Jong Un’s ego is too big to see his citizens freed
I’m from Berlin, my mum only went and slept through the fall of the wall (she’s from east berlin), went to work the next day and was like where tf is everybody
Lol😂
Fun fact: Günter Schabowski (spokesman of the ruling party) got handed a note during a press conference stating that the crossing of the wall was permitted, but Egon Krenz(leader of east berlin) forgot to mention that it would take effect the next day. So the reporters asked when it would take effect and he said: "As far as I know, it takes effect immediately, without delay".

Well done
I was born in 1975 and watched it fall on TV.
My grandparents and my dad when he was 17 in college got separated by this wall. They only lived about 30 minutes away from eachother but he could never drive over and see them since they were on the other side of the wall. His parents just got a new house so he didn’t remember their new phone number so he couldn’t call them. When the wall fell, my dad said he had a feeling of freedom and happiness that he hadn’t felt in a long time. I can’t even imagine not being able to see your son for so long that he got engaged to my mom and is pregnant with their first child
* he was a college student studying a PhD in nursing, starting a family etc and didn’t have much money so he couldn’t travel/move.

If communism is so great why were the East Berliners so happy to leave when the wall fell
Cause it wasn't real communism. It was just the preparation stage for communism.
@@phonixkill5271 What is real communism?
@@lukechung5020 Its real when it happens okay?
@@young7931 LOL
@@lukechung5020 Marx identified two phases of communism that would follow the predicted overthrow of capitalism: the first would be a transitional system in which the working class would control the government and economy yet still find it necessary to pay people according to how long, hard, or well they worked; the second would be fully realized communism-a society without class divisions or government, in which the production and distribution of goods would be based upon the principle “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”
