I think in Korea they tend to show an "active" ingredient first, even if it is watered down, because they treat this substance as a whole, so maybe in a new version they showed the ingredients in European/American way and that's why water is first and extract is fifth. Also that's why for example Artemisia Essence has one ingredient but in reality it's not just artemisia but water obviously and a few other additives. That's just my guess.

    • @LeadingTheCheer
      @LeadingTheCheer Před 2 lety +9

Exactly my thoughts. With 'ferments' and 'extracts' we don't really know how they are comprised, so in theory this one could contain more of the 'good stuff' than the previous version.

I ordered the new version when it came out and only now got to actually using it. Tbh I didn't expect anything from it because this video was so negative and the people in the comments just agreed. But two days after using this essence I touched my face and noticed that my skin had suddenly become a lot softer and smoother. Then I started thinking "why is my skin suddenly a lot smoother?" Mind you, I'm a korean skincare junkie for ten years and I already tried everything under the moon from Korea, so it's not like I've been using crap and then immediately noticed a difference with a little bit of niacinamide and ferments. Then it dawned on me that the only thing I had changed in my routine was incorporating the Missha First Treatment Essence. It's also really weird that other first essences didn't do anything for me, like Scinic, Secret Key or Cosrx (even though I really love Cosrx as a brand and I've been using their products on and off for years). But the Missha Essence is a huge step above every other first essence for me. I've tried the old versions in the past as well and they were great but I had kind of forgotten about Missha because there are always new brands coming out.

@@paigeme886 Hi, I'm not sure if you're asking the creator of the video or me but in case you asked me, I'm going to answer too 😄yes, I do occasionally have issues with hyperpigmentation, especially during the summer time. The missha essence does help to even out the skin tone over time (and it's a little brightening) but it's not a miracle unfortunately. It's not going to get rid of old hyperpigmentation that has been there for months. But if you notice new hyperpigmentation forming after being in the sun too long, it definitely can help to get rid of it.

Hi Sarah I used the previous incarnation and really liked it, so that is super disappointing - a touch of the FAB issues going on here perhaps? My other favourite first essence is the Neogen micro ferment essence, so I hope they haven't messed with that one. I won't be buying this new version of the Missha, as I don't need a watered down product tbh. This more expensive first essence step is something I usually turn to in the colder months, as I feel it does help further layers to penetrate slightly better. They're not an inexpensive product category and should have a better INCI list than a regular toner. They are often a very watery consistency, but that's due to their place in your routine - first after cleansing. All in all a real backward step for them. This and the bb cream were the only Missha products I used, as most of their products are fragranced (bb creams I can tolerate a little fragrance, as they over all other skincare including spf). Best wishes.

It is a bummer- I wish brands would stop messing around with great products- but they just cannot help themselves I guess. I keep finding more and more FAB products that have been changed for the worse. Just testing their Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer and they also changed that one. They stated they had to change them for legal regulations in new countries they are selling it, but I have to wonder if that will make them as much money as they will lose in the US and other countries that used to love their products...

I think "filtrate" is a workaround to make "95% water + 5% ferment" sound more desirable and make INCIs appear minimal. But tea is a filtrate and so is coffee.. u can say "coffee" or "water, caffeine etc...". It's just a way of writing the same thing. It'd be nice if they wrote percentages down: expresso and American coffee are both filtrates but they are not the same ;) Here SK2 is expresso and this is Starbucks let's be honest.

@@NOBSBeauty sure! But I mean there are lots of tricky terms that the industry uses to allure us haha ;) ..extract for instance but in this example it's not just "filtrate" but also "fermented". I mean that does not mean much if u think.. wine and vinegar are both fermented grape juice. Yogurt is fermented milk and blue cheese is fermented milk... what is the enzyme used to ferment the solution? For how long was it fermented? Under what conditions? U can say fermented galactomyces so it reads like sk2 but then just the smell of sk2 tells you it's a very different sort of concentration (filtration) and fermentation right? I am not promoting sk2 eh?! just using it as an example as Misha's sold as a dupe. In two INCIs u may find the exact same wording for two totally different products.

As a long time customer, I'm disappointed by recent changes Missha has made to their lineup and to their formulations. Missha is similar to many Asian companies in that they frequently change or 'upgrade' formulas. Another gripe, many products I've used throughout the years, formerly available in the US, are no longer available for sale but are overseas for the European or Asian markets. I'm definitely in the camp of "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it."
The Missha Time Revolution First Essence's original formula contained both niacinamide and Licorce, and it had ferment as the first ingredient. It was a beautiful hydrating step before my next treatment product or my sunscreen that produced visible brightening results.
Their ampoule was almost an exact dupe to Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair. That formulation has also changed. Fortunately, I have a few backup bottles of the old Essence Gen 4 formula in the economy size but I think it's time for me to start researching a replacement.

    • @NOBSBeauty

I couldn't agree wtih you more- it gets so tiring to keep finding amazing products then have them change them a year later. I loved that ampoule dupe- really wish they wouldn't have changed that. That change also added a ton more fragrance. I've been trying to test it for my review but it is just so scented I can barely get through using it for more than a couple days in a row.

@@NOBSBeauty I know, right? I wondered if it was my imagination that more fragrance was added to the ampoule but once my skin was on fire and super red, that was a good indicator.

I feel the same exact way their first versions of the ampoule and treatment was so so good to my skin. If you ever find a replacement I would loveee to know as well as the new versions are heavily fragranced or lacking compared to the past versions of the products!

  • @awetewtewtewawetwetw500

I thought you don’t believe in washing off remaining makeup debris with toner since that just means your cleanser doesn’t work. I personally can not tell the difference between the 4th and 5th version. I feel like you’re biased from the ingredient list. I think they’re just listing their ingredients a different way

Bummer! I have one more bottle of the old version after I use up the Artemisia one I'm using now but after that I'll probably go back to Secret Key. On an unrelated note Odile (who works in the Korean beauty industry) made a post explaining how Purito's new sunscreen is not sold in Korea and therefore no longer subject to their standards/regulations!😳

This is so unfortunate to see. The change in the formulation mostly being water and glycerin is so disappointing. I still have a bit of the old version left, and I probably won't be trying the new formulation.
I recommend sticking with their Artemisia essence and Red Algae Essence.

You should learn What Ingredients List writing system on korea and Chinese
They switch to international ingredient writing system so they can sell on China
The old version use korean writing system so The ferment is on the top of list (fermented+water)
While the new version write based on the real weight of the ingredients list so Water is weight separate from the ferment

Another reformulation I guess Missha is going to break the record 😂
    My alternatives are:
    Cosxr: galactomyces toner (95% petira)
Succin: First treatment essence (90% petira)
Neogen: dermatology real ferment micro essence
    Secret Key: galactomyces essence
