Comparing golf clubs with non golf clubs is just silly.
Because it's an exclusive club. The people there don't want to be bothered by people not in their circle.
Why do we have first class seats on flights. Why are there gated communities, why do companies gave security at the front door?
There are plenty of cheaper clubs.
You pay for exclusivity.

I hate networking, but i can see the value in such memberships if one can afford it.
Mingling and making connections with the elites who have connections and money is quite a powerful asset I'd say.
Because you can resell the full membership, may even make a profit out of it. One can just keep the membership and not use the facility.

I dont know what is the boomer generation's fetish with country clubs, honestly to me, a waste of time and nothing tangible and intrinsic to show for, glad that the younger generation are not that obssessed with country club memberships
