Honestly Shopee it's the tackiest e-commerce, so messy user interface, cannot replace Indonesia's original "Tokopedia" which still considered as classy for its reliability and no clutter UI.
Lastly please speak proper English with proper accent.
Seriously Malaysian + Singaporean English sounds as annoying as Indian.

I'm in Thailand and I go with either Shopee or Lazada depending on the prices and shipping promotions. I don't know why they would need so many employees or so many repeating CZcams ads. Just not money well spent. Better cut costs and give both sellers and buyers good deals and convenience. Improve efficiency in logistics and stuff that matters.

    • @goyam2981

Like I've seen so many general Shopee ads on CZcams. But Lazada will focus on special events and promotions. And Lazada gives free shipping codes every day while Shopee is a bit stingy on that. Once Lazada has acquired new customers they have a better way of keeping the customers engaged and enticing them to buy more items as opposed to Shopee.

It's a shock to me that they're having a hard time keeping their footing in Singapore, when Shopee has a chokehold on Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia. Shopee and Lazada in the Philippines are practically neck and neck, and the fact they can even compete with Tokopedia in Indonesia is huge considering how massive Tokopedia is. I think Singapore's market in general is also quite self limiting because of the size of Singapore's consumer base. But this now explains why I lot of Singaporean shopee employees are being expatriated now to the Philippines.

Shopee is still competitive right now, well, at least in the Philippines. They're neck and neck with Lazada when it comes to mobile and web e-commerce competition. However, Sea's gaming arm Garena has its presence here wiped out to the point that their once-touted modern offices here in Manila were shut down, and localized versions of games such as Arena of Valor, Point Blank, and League of Legends either closed down or returned their publishing rights to the game's developers.

Easy credit and near 0% interest rates lead to bad investments and wasteful investments. When credit is more realistic, people have to be more judicious and careful how they allocate limited resources. So instead of focusing where the company is strong- Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, etc- they had all these useless expansions into EU and Latin America, where the environment is very different. "If you build it, they will come." Squandered a lot of resources.

Growing in the Philippines? lol it's literally dying.
Their corrupt and greedy practices are way too much, so much that their competition (Lazada) looks like an angel in comparison. I remember the time when you can use discount coupons, free shipping coupons, and coin deductions all at the same time. It started going downhill when they started to put an "expiration" to the coins earned for every purchase, then they slowly capped the "free" shipping vouchers from 199 pesos to 50 pesos so it's literally more like a shipping voucher now, and lastly Shopee removed the option of using multiple vouchers at the same time entirely. People have to choose whether to apply a shipping discount voucher, item discount voucher, or cashback voucher. They have grown way too fucking greedy
Lazada on the other hand allows you to use multiple vouchers AS THEY ALWAYS DID, have a MUCH LOWER delivery fees, better customer service when it comes to returns, gives you coins cashback for every purchase.

In the Philippines, shopee reviews are pretty lazy, sometimes it feels like bots wrote the review and leave random videos and photos unrelated to the product, the opposite for lazada. However shopee has more obscure product options while Lazada has far more quality options. In terms of full transparency of what the shops/ sellers are selling and the product you receive is pretty much 50/50. You have to rely on your own intuition whether or not to trust a shop by either their seller rating or the reviews you see on the product page, both unreliable as I've mentioned before, some or maybe most reviews on the product page are random non-sense left by reviewers while giving the product a high rating, definitely skewing the seller rating's trustworthiness.

Every time we wanted to use their free shipping promotion it was not available. The suppliers in Shoppe are exactly the same as those in Lazada, and Lazada has served our needs since Day 1 in Thailand. Shoppe is simply not our cup of tea. Sorry.

As an Indonesian, seeing comments from other SEA countries saying their biggest e-commerces is either Shopee or Lazada is interesting. Lazada is practically dead in Indonesia, you either choose Shopee or Tokopedia. If you ask the general public, most of them will probably choose Tokopedia for buying things with high value or price as well as anything electronic related while Shopee for cheap things and household items.

Not surprising, because in Indonesia, Shopee overspent in advertisements and discounts and promotional events. Whatever the excuses, no businesses - including startups - will survive in the long-run when they fail in making money. Then I think the qualities of the merchandises and the merchants are also sometimes questionable, and this made me buy stuffs online at Shopee only if there's no other alternatives.

The greatest downfall for these Chinese companies is the fact they tend to hire their own people for strategic roles. Hence many such companies cannot expand and do well overseas, unlike other MNCs where they think global hire local. TikTok is now helmed by a Singaporean so that definitely helps to curb such practices. But if the current CEO is replaced by a Chinese, then I think make no difference.

It started a few months ago, when many offline clothes sellers complained to Indoensian government that their sale drops all-time low because of TIK TOK online shop. Indonesia then worked fast to annihilate Tiktok shop. But others ecommerce falls victims. For example, AliExpress in China is now FORBIDDEN to send goods directly to Indonesia. Shopee Indonesia is also banned from including Chinese sellers.

I really like this video, is a really good story outside the US/Europe/China and a few other countries. Also with this video I noticed for first time than Shopee has a site here in Chile, but now more like a facade of a marketplace 😅
Here in Latin America is very different how we shop online, with mostly local chains like (in my country), Falabella, Ripley, Paris and Lider (Wallmart) with and hybrid store/marketplace model; while the only one dominant pan-american company, Mercado Libre (or Meli), is expanding from the marketplace though other areas like finance with Mercado Pago. And really that's all, local retail and Meli, while others like Amazon or more recently Temu, are wayyyy behind the rest.

Vietnamese here, Shopee is still very much relevant in Vietnam and basically the largest e-comerence store in VN. Other than Shopee I could only think of on top of my head is Tiktok shop or Facebook lives but I'm sure it's not any close to Shopee. Shopping experience as an average consumer which buys stuff every now and then off Shopee has been great, there are lots of vouchers and promotions every month, sometimes the actual final price + shipping is lower than the actual product price. I have never once not received my package or I've been sent the wrong item, contacting shops and returning them is very easy.

You cannot be successful when the customer service is constantly siding with the seller. I once bought T5 lamp tubes from Shopee because it is hard to find old style T5 lamptubes elsewhere. It was delivered broken. With glass shards all over the floor when i opened them. Took me a while to clean. I asked for a refund. Showed them photographs. Seller asked me to return. How do I return broken pieces of glass? I appealed to Shopee, Shopee sided with the seller. No refund. Hence no more buying from Shopee.

    • @mocky126

Could be fault of delivery company rather than seller. Seller not likely to pack broken glass for delivery. So if you are seller, you will not want to bear the cost too.

To sum it up: They offer a big bold 50% OFF shipping cost (maximum 1.5$). So when you think you only need to pay 5$ instead of 10$ shipping, you've got to pay 8.5$ actually.
