The lyrics of this song reflect sorrowful memories of the civil war the city " Beirut " witnessed from 1975-1989...
1990 actually not 1989
Fayrouz is more than a singer in the arab world, she is imprinted in our childhood memories, she represents joy, comfort, nostalgia and a tender embrace ❤ she is basically our fairy godmother. Thank you for this reaction
Fairy Godmother is one accurate description of her archetype. Nothing starts your day better than morning Fairuz tunes.
You described it perfectly. 3 generations in my family listen to Fairuz, and my daughter is beginning to get into her music, making almost 4 generations.
She was our comfort during the war, our happiness in the car or on the home stereo, and our pride as Lebanese people for decades.
There is a deep meaning in this song! It is not just song, you should also research why she created it. It is very emotional because Beirut was teared apart several times and rises up again every time. My father lived his childhood in war, entirely..
This song always makes me emotional. I can’t listen to it without crying. You can feel the deep sadness of the war, such loss that was captured through this song.
I feel the same way
Fayrouz the voice of an angel, thanks for the reaction
Lebenon was just out of civil war thats why she made this song and many more , she didn't leave Lebanon during the war always asking for peace , she is amazing , she nevar sang to any president or king , she is patriot woman . sending love to the lady of Lebanon and our hearts from Cairo , Egypt.
لم يكن لبنان خارج من الحرب بل كان في عز الحرب غنتها لبيروت المدمرة ..أطفئت مدينتي قنديلها
وأيضا أغنية بحبك يا لبنان غنتها ب عز الحرب الأهلية
I’m crying. All nations who would go to war should be made first to listen to the most beloved voices of the people they fear.
I first heard Fairuz in Tripoli, Libya during the late 70's. She was revered by many people. I love her singing.
I still rever her today
Did u live in libya? Where are you from
I worked there from 1975 until 1980. I am originally from the UK but now live in the USA.
lebanon@@Languini_2024
You can picture a typical morning in Lebanon: people commuting to work or school, stuck in traffic or at a stoplight, with Fayrouz songs playing in the background, perhaps even on a bus
I'm listening to this 9 months after the fact so my comment may be lost...but Fairuz is a legend on so many levels and for so many Arabs. But first I need to address the connection btwn Spain and Arabs. The Arabs were in Spain for 800 years and "Arab" influence is woven into Spanish culture and music. Secondly, this song is an anthem for Lebanese (and countless others) especially bcs it came out during our bloody and senseless "civil" (uncivil) war that took the lives of so many and crippled Lebanon to the point that it has never fully recovered. Thirdly, she also sang for Palestine and our loss (I am half Lebanese, half Palestinian). Her velvet voice has been a balm and therapy for many of us. I would venture to say almost all of us. What makes her that much more special is she is also Christian and she has served as a unifying force in a world that too often breaks down over human drawn lines that divide...The day she dies, we will have lost a beacon of light in an often dark and hopeless place.
Fairuz is the sound of the broken hearts
Fayrouz is a
“Therapeutic music” for all the Arab world ❤ thank U for the reaction
She was a little bit old when she sang this one, you gotta listen to her songs from the 1950s to 1970s .. she was really amazing.. I think the orchestrator was her son Ziad Rahbani, he is also a living legend and his career is still spanning from the 1970s
Dear Ken, thank you for this introduction to Arabic music. I also recommend listening to Oum Kalthoum (Enta Omri or Al Atlal are good songs to start with) or the singer Asmahan (Ya Habibi Taala or Ya Toyour are good songs as well). Both have exceptional voices.
On the lyrics, it is an ode to Beirut, title means for/to Beirut. It was written and recorded during the height of the Lebanese Civil War (1975_1990).
I've heard this song many times now (my gf is Beiruti). I still find tears streaming down my face every time - what a piece and such a beautifully emotive interpretation from Fairouz.

LYRICS IN ARABIC translated to English
To Beirut, from my heart, peace to Beirut
He went towards the sea and the houses
A rock like the face of an old sailor
It is from, the spirit of the people is wine
She is from, whose sweat is bread and jasmine
How did it taste?
The taste of fire and smoke
For Beirut, glory from ashes for Beirut
From the blood of a boy carried on her hand
My city extinguished its lamp and closed its door
In the evening, she was alone, alone and at night
To Beirut, from my heart, peace to Beirut
He went towards the sea and the houses
A rock like the face of an old sailor
You are mine, you are mine
Oh hug me, you are mine
My banner, the stone of tomorrow, and the wave of my journey
The wounds of my people have blossomed
Mothers tear
You are my Beirut, you are mine
Oh hug me.
Thank you for considering this song. Finally somebody who is expert in music

Fairouz added the quarter tone that only in oriental music exist to this famous song. Nice reaction
For Beirut,
wishing peace from the bottom of my heart for Beirut.
Kisses for her shore and houses
And for the rock
that looked like the face of an old sailor.
She was like a wine, made from people's soul
Like bread...
Made from their sweat.... and Jasmine. She was
Then how did her taste become
...like that of fire and smoke

It's good that your viewer recommended Fairuz to you, but I would have chosen another song, an older song at that, which better showcases Fairuze's singing ability and the unique feel of the music in her songs which were written by her husband and his brother the rahbani brothers, I would recommend you listen to: Give me the flute and sing. Aatini el nay wa ghanni. This song's lyrics are from one of Gibran Khalil's poems, Gibran Khalil Gibran is the most famous Lebanese poet in the modern era.
My brother, the best artist in the Middle East is Kazem Saher, and this is my opinion
استمع الى كاظم الساهر اغنية انا وليلى
Try listening Le Beirut by Lina Sleibi…. It is magnificent!
Sorry for commenting too much xd
We know that no one can imitate HER.
She s a great singer and a better person, she never try to appear on shows
She refused 5 million dollars to sing in Saudi Arabia 1 single song and asked authorities to donate this amount for poor people

React to ana wa laila by kadim alsahir with subtitles
Have you tried listening to Umm Kulthum? How about Asmahan? The Middle East had many amazing talents in the twentieth century.
please react to zekra she's a legendary arab singer
Lyric Mezzo Soprano, she could even be a lower soprano. Arab singers tend to sing darker than other traditions
She put effort on A4/Bb4 than soprano she is a Mezzo soprano who use heady mix
She was like 70 when she sang this. Listen to her when she was younger
You should react to some Poets of the Fall. Their lead singer has an amazing, rich voice, their lyricism is incredible, and their videos are highly produced, well acted, and tell a story that definitely compliments the lyrics.
