The Stranglers - No More Heroes - Take Two (TopPop) (1977) (HD)
• The Stranglers - No Mo...
Something tells me they weren't taking either of these appearances on "TopPop" very seriously... ;-) - Hudba
NOTE: To ALL of you whom think this is Top Of The Friggin Pops and keep making comments about TOTP and then wondering why your comments don't appear then...
THIS IS "TOP POP" a 70's & 80's Dutch TV show as the title clearly says and it has nothing to do with Top Of The Frigging pops... -_-
all right-chill out man
@ Mark Smith: I'm well chilled maaaan... just fed up with those whom cannot read posting shite here about Top Of The Friggin Pops it aint YOU whom get's all the email notifications day in day out for such posts is it...
Worst thing is that the logo's right at the top in the video too xD
MadFranko008 HI! How are you! Have you other films with their performances? Thanks!
@MadFrank008. Thank f*ck someone has posted the TRUTH loud and clear. It's been annoying the shit out of me for ages too. What is wrong with people init, f*kin morons everywhere can't see the bloody big logo right at the top in the middle of the screen. You even mention the name in your comment about how they were clearly taking the piss. At one point the drummer has his back to the kit and is playing the air behind him, which gave me a chuckle. Punk was supposed to be REAL. I enjoyed Bob Geldof playing the candlestick off the piano instead of his sax on an edition of TOTP which apparently pissed off the producers as no one was supposed to know they were miming (as if init? Mind you, now that I've said that, most of your average muppets probably didn't know. Lots of 'em didn't notice the logo on this vid.) F*ck me the average human is a stupid creature. They think watching some nonentity so called celebrity eating a pigs bollock is entertainment. AND what has happened to the word celebrity? It used to mean "the celebrated scientist Albert Einstein" or "The celebrated poet Shelley" or whatever. What the f*ck have the twats these days EVER been celebrated for. Most of the thick c*nts are just famous for being famous. Right that's quite enough of a rant, I'll bugger off now and av a cuppa I think. All the Best mate. Jared. A 1st generation celtic PUNK. I'm more than a bit mad meself, doc rekons I'm schitzophrenic have schitzo affective disorder and half a dozen other things I can't pronounce or spell properly. I blame the world for being so f*kin annoying, how the f*ck is a reasonable man expected to stay sane amongst idiots and bullshit. Shwmai man......Ja
I think they want to tell us that they are not playing live.
You don't say🤣🤣🤣
The keyboardist does though!
The bass player isn't the singer for starters! I think it's a great messy punk piss take of a video. A success at capturing punk.
Who cares
@@glennblock7554 If you didn't care,you wouldn't have watched it,just saying🤣🤣🤣
Great band. Ridiculous performance. You have to love it !
R.I.P Jet Black - sublime genius along with Dave Greenfield.
Hope that you are now reunited.
Brilliant and iconic song.
R.I.P JET!
Sad to see so many amazing artists and musicians passing this year.
I love how the drummer makes no attempt at making it look like he's actually playing
Hugh Cornwell- legend
Jet dont even give a fart...let alone a a shit.
One of the greatest bands in the history of rock.
I'm going to see them on Sunday!😃💫🙌🏻👌🏻
You just can’t classify them! Just pure experimentation, talent and exuberance! They ooze creativity and style! My mother is a huge fan so I grew up with them and many other of their ilk! I’m grateful to my mom for introducing me to a lot of things. Not the least of which is instilling me with a love for great music, regardless of genre!
So true. This was the first major rock gig I attended back in 1985. Will never forget it
Fckin brilliant band
R.I.P Dave
And Still one of the most exciting live bands to watch. The new line up works majestically.
Who's with me this is a effing Legend of a song from a Legendary Group !!
Sad to hear that the MAGNIFICENT Jet Black died on 6 December 2022 at the age of 81. God bless you, Jet. And THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC. One of the greats, a true drumming talent who never missed a beat. The Guildford Stranglers would never have formed without Jets ambition and the lure of his off-licence
Love this mimed piece with Jean-Jaques larging it to Hugh's lead
F**king superb and the very very first 7" single I ever bought as a teanager wow this brings back some good memories from the 1970's f**king fantastic!!!!
Jet Black has just passed away at 84. R.I.P.
RIP Jet 😥
RIP Mr Black ( Legend)
One of the most unique and original music groups in history. If not the most original.
Here here!
RIP Jet, founder of air drumming, and Dave, the imperturbable man.
spot on, the two genuine stranglers.
RIP Jet Black. Founder of one of the greatest bands. They were classified as punk but these guys could play. Top stuff
Topper.
Most of the early Punk bands could play! Don’t believe the “SUN”!
RIP Dave Greenfield (29 March 1949 - 3 May 2020)
RIP Jet Black (26 August 1938 - 6 December 2022)
The face on the drummer at the end is priceless!
🤗🤗🤗🤗
Jean Jacques miming to Hugh Cornwell's vocals! Love it!
The very first record I ever purchased from 1977 which then led me on to collect over 5000 7"singles in the next 25 years what a f***ing belter of a tune from the Stranglers. Thanks for the upload.
@ Chris Montignani: 5000 eh.... that kinda beats my collection by a good couple of thousand but I'm close to having almost 4000 promo videos now so one of these days if I live to be auld enough I might just catch up with that figure but the videos of course... :-) (just wish I could upload most of em to CZcams without them getting blocked)... :-/
You never get tired of this song!!!
Me neither❗️
the drummer steals the show here
My favorite part is when Jet is facing precisely opposite his drums.
That was the best. I love *AIR DRUMS.*
I like it when JJ breaks the stage on purpose lol!
Doesnt devo do this ?????
I particularly love Jets tiny hi-hat.
Playing his rack of invisi-toms
I was 17 years old when I brought the Stranglers music to a small Australian rural town, no body got it but me, and I still love their music at 63.
I’m in my mid 50’s mate and similar story. When the youngsters ask me what I listened to when I was younger… you know where this is going 🤙
Do in wich Aussie Town, Mate ?........ Sydney
That drummer is an absolute delight.
It was Dave Greenfield's outstanding keyboards work that elevated The Stranglers from a good band to a really great band.
No on e played keys like Dave
Yes a great keyboard player . Sadly missed.
RIP Jet black 🥁 and RIP Dave Greenfield 🎹 can't believe we have lost both of you a great loss to the music world 🌎
I was 30 when I first heard them and I'm still listening to them at 69.
16 and 62
how that guy plays drums telepathically is amazing
First heard Peaches in 77 and was hooked on JJ Burnels bass and then Black and White in 78 and loved that bass line on Nice and Sleazy so been playing bass since, great band.
I've never seen this before. The Stranglers are a legend of a band.I thought this performance was absolutely hilarious. I was fortunate enough to see them live on three occasions. Believe me, they didn't disappoint.
I love the fact that the drummer turns round half way through. I'm guessing too much 'golden brown' was consumed right before this performance. Legends.
That was my favorite part! Air drumming, lol
Love to see bands taking the piss out of lip sync.
And the show going along with it! 😀
Sad loss. Rip jet black. Fitting tune!!!! 👏👏
Intelligent punk from highly intelligent blokes. Underneath all the attitude acting these were highly sensitive artists. I mean they wrote some of the greatest singles in the history of pop music ie Golden Brown, Nice an Sleazy, Heroes. These are masterstrokes in songwriting rarely achieved even by accomplished writers. Hugh was a research Biochemist from the University of Bristol before he assumed his persona. JJ is a 7th Dan in Karate. Respect to you all, Sirs.
The ending with Jet Black staring lobotomically with changing background colours is particularly brilliant.
My uncle was visiting last week and he left this video up on the computer. That was the first I heard of this group and song. These guys rock!!!!
The Stranglers always wanted to play live. Here they were taking the piss. Great music always.
I can honestly say this was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time the guitar 'playing', tongue poking, and the drumming invisible drums - with his back to the real ones! I don't think i'll ever be able to listen to this song again without thinking of this!
I love it when he plays air drums
Was lucky to see them many times one of the best live bands I have seen.
Me too mate 2 times hemel pavilion , memories still in my head. mezmorized
That is brilliantly hilarious!
Jet Black ...You are sorely missed
You gotta love how they're taking the piss out of miming...
It's just amazing how they were able to quite precisely reproduce the album quality sound live while moving in a seemingly inappropriate way... There's pure talent and magic here...
No, no, no... you've got it all wrong !!!
They were in fact moving in a perfectly appropriate way and playing live and they did it so well that this talented and magical performance is what they released on the album...
Honest it's all true, I read it on social media so it must be fact... 😯
Any drummer that can still make drum sounds backwards is a real drummer!
Goodbye Dave Greenfield and Jet Black. You will always be my heroes.
first 2 seconds and I am totally sold. God love em!
Love this. Keyboardist keeps playing it straight. LOL.
love them saw them at Wembley stadium with acdc and the who headlining wot a day i was on the pitch in front of the stage 😊..stranglers always sound like a punk version of the doors to me.. brilliant
I think you are correct. There was always something more sophisticated about their sound.
They're just having a blast. Great fun. Great song.
I love how they made a mockery of the "lip-synch your big hit" TV format. Amazing band.
Very unprofessional and disrespectful. Love it
saw these about 5 times .never tire of their music . my top 5 bands of all time ❤
RIP Jet
Once the drummer turned his back to the camera and started playing air-drums, everyone else just said, "Well, to hell with it."
They thought that earlier than that.
I love everything about this video, but him turned around playing air drums is my favorite
Utter classic the stranglers at their best .
I love how much they don't care at all
But if they don't care, why should we?
Punk attitude!
@@paulatB2B I think they care, they just dont buy into lip synching to their own song vs actually playing it and this is their way if protesting.
Was fortunate enough to see them live, top band
First band I ever saw live early in '84, brilliant live act. So sad to have lost two of the founder members.
JJ miming HC, JB playing invisible drums, DG 'holding it together'. Fkn hilarious. The Stranglers: legendary band..The Raven, Rattus, Heroes...enough said!
Genius improv. I don’t think I could’ve contained my laughter if I was part of the film crew.
Man watch Take Two of this song on youtube🤣🤣🤣 it's even worse and fkn hilarious 🤣🤣🤣 JJ playing drums etc 🤣🤣
Everyone gave up on the lipsync except the keys. He knew every note of that recording
Ah... but the keyboard player did give up eventually as you can see from the second take of this video...
The Stranglers - No More Heroes (Take Two) (TopPop)
czcams.com/video/DJZaae1sDrA/video.html
PS: Of course they never really gave up on anything they were in fact just having a laugh and pissing around because they could and felt like doing so, something that seems a completely go right over the heads of many who post here (mainly the sad, humourless boring wonders of this world)...😉
🔥
R.I.P. > Jet Black 🥁 🏴
I was 16 at the time, and a bit angry with the world, in need of something to soothe my aching soul. Then this came along.
Nostalgia night with headphones, just had to hear this again. I was 13 when itit was released, LOVE IT
No idea how this showed up in my feed but I'm damn glad it did
Their performance is a total riot!!!!!
The Stranglers co-founder and original drummer Jet Black dies aged 84
RIP in music heaven
Luckily he lived quite long for a rock musician. So many died before their time!
No more Hero anymore RIP🖤
@Alexander Laurence: You know something... some of the internet generation are complete weirdos and clearly have no concept of reality or how to react/ behave !!! 🤔
I mean why... fer gawds sake WHY would people click on "like" about a comment mentioning the death of someone !!!
Some folk really shouldn't be allowed out of their padded cells and given access to teh interwebs... freekin sad gits... 🤨🙄
@@FortitudineVincimus Its still not something you'd click on like for, the announcement of someones death may well be "informative" but there's no need to click on a silly little "like" button" just because you thought it informative...
As said before, a comment/ post simply announcing the death of someone is NOT a thing to "like" as basically what it is saying is you "like" the fact that someone has died...
There are some things that anyone with even an ounce of common sense and decency would realise should not be disrespected in such a manner and the announcement of someones death IS NOT something to "like"...
Dunno why people like yourself are so ignorant and naive that you cannot grasp what should be a basic and fundamental party of human decency !!! 🙄😕
I LOVE THIS!!! Loved their attitude, their sneering and that freakin bass line!!!! Ta for posting that!!!
+Erin Walcroft
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it... :-)
I was 11 when this came out, still love it!!! Rip jet black 👍
No more heroes anymore
@@zimzum08lol they're disappearing at an alarming rate 😥
Same here, f**k we're old 🤣
Nut uss.. sob4

Saw them in Berkeley 1981 Outstanding. Got mugged heading back to Oakland at three in the morning on Foothill.
Fantastic musicians and equally creative artists. ❤
The fine art of not giving a f=ck
God they were fucking good, and still are. I saw them at Oxygen festival a few years ago, i loved every minute of it. They will always be one of my favorite bands. Long live the Stranglers.

😊one the funniest pantomime videos ever. Rest in peace Jet and Dave
Love despite everyone else not playing along with the playback, Dave Greenfield still goes along with it. What a gentleman, RIP
Methinks you might change your tune when you see Dave in the other version of this video... 😉

Amazing bassline

RIP
The best playback I've ever seen.
Basically, that's how the drums are meant to be played!
The seventies and eighties were brilliant for muzic.
No idea why this showed up in my feed but I'm glad it did
The greatest Punk group ever assembled. RIP Dave Greenfield and Jet Black.
amazing air drumming from Jet Black RIP
RIP Jet Black
Big impact while watching this as an 11 year old . Punk saved my life.
Jet Black playing air drums.... fooking brilliant...
I saw them in 1978 and they had the same clothes on.
The best ever playback revenge performance.
saw this group 4 times in my time x up there in my top ten x organ playing is outstanding well done guys x
now my favorite "live" performance of all time!
Dave Greenfield possibly the most under rated keyboard player this side of the Universe!!!
Neil Pountney quality musician
The best drumming i have ever seen
Bought all their vinyl singles as a kid then progressed to albums as a teenager. Epic band, epic times.
I feel so fortunate being young in the 70's and 80's. 🎉🥳🎉🥳
As a casual fan I was blown away watching them live. Amazing sound.
I love the stranglers
Can't believe The Stranglers would agree to lip sync to a back track, but that was common in those days.
Every band and artist did it with the exception of two, those being "The Clash" and "Iron Maiden" who stuck to their words and never once appeared on any TV show that asked them to mime and lip sync...
It is still common practice even now and I often wonder why apparently so many of todays younger generation can't quite grasp that simple fact !!!
Do you honestly think that any band or artist even now who makes a promo video for whatever the latest song is they are trying to sell are actually singing live in that video !!! of course they aren't because they are in the business of trying to promote and sell records and no band or artist can sound live exactly like the highly polished studio recorded track they are trying to sell (in fact many sound awful live) and that's why they mime/ lip sync to them so the music buying public knows that is what they will get when they buy the music...
It's all just common sense really that for the life of me seems to be beyond the grasp of many younger people these days !!! 🤔🙄
Id like to believe that Dave and Jet are playing this in heaven today x
Cosmic sound! I heard this band 30 years ago - 300% fun!!!
Classic. Keyboard nerds can never turn off the professionalism.
You couldn't be more wrong about that one... ;-)
Try watching this to see why... ;-)

Great band. The keyboard player was very talented. He invented his own hybrid punk/classical style. Takes me back in time 👍
Did he? Sounds like a crapper version of some basic Deep purple to me.
@@jprp999 Hmmm... "Crapper version of some basic Deep purple" !!! so what you are saying is that in your mind any keyboards played by Deep Purple are already crap to begin with and to you and your obvious hearing issues that this is just that wee bit more crappier than the crap Deep Purple keyboards you also whinged and whined about there...
Kinda odd that you seem to have a weird fetish for what you consider to be crap keyboard playing but hey, whatever floats your boat and I suppose you need to have some sort of hobby to while away your sad wee life... (must be weird being you, as well as sad, amusing for the rest of us though) !!! 🤪
@@MadFranko008 No, Purple has some very involved KB playing and some much more basic stuff, the KB on this put me in mind of the more basic stuff but less well done, my point was that it did not seem like anything new or special considering DP were before them and it is a fair assumption that these guys would have heard them.
@@jprp999 The Stranglers had some very "involved keyboard playing" and you would know that if you had ever taken the time to listen even but a few of the many singles and albums they produced... (ever heard of "Golden Brown" for example ???)
Here's the thing though, the OP's opinion is just as valid as yours or mine but at the end of the day that is all they are... opinions and nothing more...
The OP never mentioned Deep Purple or even hinted at their comment being anything to do with Deep Purple or any other band for that matter but for reasons known only to yourself you decided to butt in and start rambling on about an irrelevant band that wasn't even in the OP's post and then tried but failed to compare them to Deep purple while at same time trying (but failing yet again) to insult the OP's opinion which they made...
There were other bands/ artists who were around long before Deep Purple came along who also used keyboards but guess what it matters not in the slightest who happened to be around using keyboards before another band or artist. That's as stupid as saying "hey my Grandad lived in this street long before you did so you can't walk down it cos I don't like the way you dress compared to him", or other similar childish drivel such as that...
There's no fair assumption in the childish post you made and trying but as said failing to put down someone else's opinion on something they never even mentioned, so why do it ???
If you want a conversation about keyboards used in bands and want to put forward an opinion on it and expect people to even give your opinion some valid consideration and a courteous response whether they agree or disagree with your opinion then learn to not simply try and attack others opinions and come across as some brain dead childish twat...
Cos if you do that around here then rest assured you will receive responses in kind (ie: the manner in which they deserve) whether you like it or not...
For the life of me I'll never understand why you apparently think that someone who simply proclaimed the opinion of "He invented his own hybrid punk/classical style." somehow in your twisted mind set you off to start insulting that opinion and most bizarre of all dragged "Deep Purple" into it as to the best of my knowledge "Deep Purples" keyboard player never attempted to create a "hybrid punk/classical style." on the keyboards !!! Seriously at least stick to the topic in question that someone has made instead of burbling nonsensical irrelevant drivel about something else that wasn't even part of the subject you decided to butt in on... 🙄
@@MadFranko008 Lol, you are massively overreacting, i haven't aimed any nasty comment at the OP or even the band as a whole, merely disagreed with the assertion that there was anything hugely unique about tha KB here.
I am a massive fan of early ac/dc but if someone said Angus had played a new unique guitar style i would have to point out that most of the sound is from early MC5 guitar style and all his onstage antics are stolen from Chuck Berry.
This is one of the best performances I've watched, especially the "acoustic" drums...
