Not too sure i agree with some of that, Andy ..... City originate from a church team in West Gorton ..... United originate from a trainyard in an area called Newton Heath (which is only about 2-3 miles away from West Gorton) .....BOTH areas are suburbs of the City of Manchester .... so that will ALWAYS make them local rivals.
Title rivals is another thing altogether....
ALL derby matches are big games, aren't they??? Even if only to local people!
A FULL count or survey of City and United fans addresses has never been done, only cross section surveys of a couple of thousand people or so, so it's impossible to guess where most supporters, of either side, reside ......although it's pretty clear to everyone that the vast majority of United fans are NOT Manchester based, and probably not even UK based!
