If you haven't worked in the industry you could only know 1/100000000th of the reality of that statement.

We have to leave some oil in the ground for the future. Just in case civilization ever collapses. We'll need it to redevelop technology.

Yes, most consumer plastic bottles have the bottle's total weight of plastic optimized as the smallest amount possible for filling, packaging, chilling in one's refrigerator and standing up. So the reduction of plastic is optimized. But the bigger issue is the non-recyclable label and cap. Yes, the cap could be the same plastic but presently isn't. The film for the label is the biggest challenge. Watching a video, specifically from India, showing those sandal-clad people removing the label and cap before shredding the bottles into polyester thread for subsequent fabric is in itself rewarding. But in the US, some towns require the removal of the label and the cap by the consumer before recycling. Look upstream and use proper plastic for the label and the cap and save all that silly manual labor downstream.

I used this video to learn how to do my new job. well, bad idea. I should have just did the official research, because at work i got my penis stuck in the corkscrew filling room where the bottles are heated then turned upright. a horrible bloody accident that was the worst the factory ever saw.
