My journey started in the city of Kochi or Cochin. Today it is one of the main seaports in the country, and the commercial center of Kerala, but it has many centuries of history and great cultural diversity. We can see that, for example, in the streets of the Jewish quarter. Before the arrival of European settlers, Kochi was home to a large Jewish population, with a synagogue right next to the Palace. Today the streets are full of colorful shops and markets, with antiques, spices and perfumes.
If you plan to travel to India, you definitely have to visit this region and enjoy all its culture.
Another tradition still in force in Kochi is its giant fishing nets, which, with wooden structures and counterweight, are operated all day long to obtain fish that is then sold directly in stalls that are next to the nets, but on the side of the street. . There are dozens and dozens of structures that overlook the Arabian Sea, and they are truly impressive.
But if we are going to talk about traditions, the one that impacted me the most was the Kathakali dance; a performance in which Hindu legends are narrated through a complex combination of music, dance steps, mudras or hand gestures, and highly specific facial expressions. On special dates, kathakali is performed throughout the night in Hindu temples.
Definitely one of my favorite visits was to the Periyar Tiger Reserve; that already amazed from the road, when we passed through hectares and hectares of beautiful tea plantations
Spolier: We didn't see any tigers, but we did see giant squirrels, deer, monkeys (lots of monkeys), and even wild boar [this is accompanied by the animal clips]
This natural park is over 770 km2 and is home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna, including wild tigers and elephants. Their main philosophy is eco-tourism and that is why they demand a lot of care and respect for the environment and the animals that inhabit it.
We took a wonderful lake trip to an island with a palace where royalty used to stay to rest.
Our next stop was Munnar, in a mountain area so remote that we had to go up by 4x4 jeep, as normal cars can't handle those roads, much less after the rains.
This was my first time at a Glamping site; the “camp” is called Nature Zone, and it has tree houses or tents like the one we stayed in.
One of the activities that I enjoyed the most this week in Kerala was the trek through the Munnar mountains. After a steep but not very long climb, I found myself with the most beautiful views of the tea plantations in the region.
And here I want to tell you something personal. From a very young age my dream was to visit Asia, and although I had been in India for several days, it was at that moment, on top of those hills in Munnar, that I realized that dream was coming true.
We leave Munnar behind to go for a typical Kerala experience: the House Boats or floating houses on the backwaters and Vembanad Lake. The houseboats have the same comforts of a good hotel. Parts of the curved roof, made of wood or woven palm leaves, open up to provide shade and allow uninterrupted views. But truly magical from a houseboat ride is the breathtaking view of otherwise inaccessible rural Kerala, which made me feel at peace from start to finish.
Responsable tourism:
We visited the town of Kumarakom, where a family opened the doors of their house to show us some local traditions and crafts.
Before continuing our tour, they surprised us by giving us traditional sarees to try on for a while, and you can see from my expression that I felt like I was in a fable.
This trip was possible thanks to the kind invitation of Kerala Tourism, who usually organize the Kerala Blog Express, but who gave me the great opportunity to do this trip individually.

Kerala is culturally very different ,It’s HDI indices are in par with developed nations ..Columbus discovered America in search of this spice land -Known as the queen of the Arabian Sea ,Also it the cradle land of all major religions in the world ,One of the oldest Christian community ,churches ,mosques and synagogues are in kerala ..Come ,visit the place and see with your open eyes and then comment .
