    Maybe the SUV you’re looking for isn’t the same as your neighbor’s. Not all of them are ginormous. Not all of them need a step ladder for entry. The Volvo V60 Cross Country offers SUV utility without the baggage. And if load gear on roof racks, this rig will make your life much easier. Tom Voelk checks out a loaded model with plenty of safety.

      Thats actually not true. Depending on the brand, if you look at Subaru's they handle just like a small car especially the crosstrek and forestor since the engine sits low in the front it doesnt feel like ur driving a raised brick that can't turn.

    Had a 1975..it ran and ran and ran even in Michigan winters...4 wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering , fuel injection and a 4 speed manual with a clutch that even a little old lady could not stall. Taught my children how to drive a stick and it was a pleasure.
    Think it cost about 5 grand..

    Like Tom I owned a couple of Volvo wagons and a two Saab alternatives over the years. Defected to a KIA Sorento in 2012 when my wife was attracted to the higher driver's seating of an SUV as Seattle suburban traffic grew taller and taller each year. (Much like a missile race trying to match the height of surrounding traffic forced the issue.) I'd happily return to a wagon but the current Sorento is my wife's daily driver and she has the deciding vote in the family "road trip" vehicle.
    Loved the Volvo wagons but I recall a number of minor annoying issues that required service and maintenance over the years. Nothing major, just annoying minor glitches. Otherwise, the minimalist Scandinavian designs were a joy to behold and we never lacked for interior space.

    Okay, I'm geeking OUT over your fun fact regarding the font. I LOVE their font, it's everything you said. After you mentioned the Gothenburg setting, I thought, "I wonder if that setting is in the Owner's Manual. Hey! I wonder if the font in the owner's manual matches the font around the car". FREAKY! Enough geekiness from me. Good work, Friend. Keep it up.

Probably that need to show off that Americans have (more than in the old world?). Anyway, what remains great with a SW is that, whatever you want to carry, wherever you want to go: you know you can! Hence the craze about pick up trucks in your country of Pioneers. But in Europe you EVER see a pick up truck... Go and figure! Thanks for another great review, as usual!

    Beautifully, though I really miss the aggressive exterior “off-road” styling of the old school xc70. The only things that sets it apart are the lower trim along the wheel wells, higher clearance, and “labeling”. I miss my old 2006 xc70. I used to beat the hell out of it and would take it off road to go on beaches for kitesurfing. The v60 XC is too pristine and you probably would not want to beat it up,

    My 1st two cars were Volvos: 122S Wagon & 145S. For the time both were great cars with safety, economy, and comfort way ahead of their peers. While current Volvos are still the best looking "wagons" around after 2 Subarus Outbacks I wouldn't go back. Subies may not be quite as deluxe but they offer more cargo space, better mpg, safety features and comfort on par with Volvos for $10-$15K less.

However, I’m having less than satisfactory enjoyment with the 2020 tablet in the Outback...the OTA updates are handy, but none have actually made it work consistently. I've finally discovered that CZcams, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that people who opted in for email notifications really don't want email notifications, so they turned them off in the middle of August. You can still get your smart phone app to give you a notification. I don't really understand why people would want their phone cluttered with banners and buzzes, rather than an email notification, but that's where we are. You might want to add something about this to your usual subscribe and notify reminders.

      V60´s are all built in Volvo´s main production facility in Torslanda, Sweden just outside Gothenburg. The American and EU markets all Volvos are built in Sweden (V90, S90, V60, XC60, XC90), Belgium (XC40) or the US (S60). The only car made in China for the global market is the S90L. Other then that cars built in the Asian factories are ment for the Asian market.

    You call it svelte? It’s the size of an Outback, with 30% less interior volume than an Outback. Have you seen its curb weight? It’s 4,200 lbs! It’s anything, but “svelte”. The 2020 Outback Onyx weighs 3,884lbs! Almost 400lbs less!

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  Před 3 lety +1

      Svelte, as in design, . This would compare with the Outback Touring, so the Volvo is 100 pounds heavier. 30% less interior volume? The passenger compartment is nearly the same size (the Volvo looses a couple inches of rear legroom). I'l assume you meant cargo area, that's smaller by about 25% (the Subaru's roof is higher by 4 inches if I remember). Nice that the Subie has a little more room but for those with the funds, the whole of the Volvo is a step or two higher.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 Před 3 lety

      Driven Car Reviews I compared the interior volume figures behind the first rows and behind the second rows to compare the interior volumes where it really counts in a wagon.
      Length isn’t volume. Behind the first row of seats, the Volvo has just 60% of volume that the Outback has. Oh and the Subaru destroys it in the front seats too.
      Outback front leg room: 42.8”
      V60 front leg room: 42.3”
      Outback front head room 40.1”
      V60 front head room 37.4”
      Outback front shoulder room 58.1”
      V60 front shoulder room 56.1”
      The Outback’s larger in every category except the exterior dimensions and weight.

      It’s actually very little car for the money. While heavy and with a large exterior, its interior is smaller than most compacts. It actually competes against the Crosstrek in interior volume. That’s pretty sad.
