All countries need to keep foreign reserves to match the amount of that currency which they have in their economy (EG if china has 100 million US worth of goods imported, it needs to have 100 Million US to transact on the Swift money settlement system)

It’s about time that China takes off the gloves when it comes to Taiwan. China has been more than patient and gracious, hoping that the lunatics in WA DC would see the light and back off. Well, China has come to the conclusion that playing nice doesn’t work with these psychopaths, in fact they regard it as a sign of weakness.
China has now laid down the law in regard to the Taiwan issue. See who would be stupid enough to muck with it.

In addition, Taiwan is a part of China, which can be found in the UN and previous historical materials and statements, so China's state affairs do not need outsiders to intervene. Think of Iraq, Afghanistan and so on, outsiders have no right to do so, it only brings endless harm to the common people, 🇹🇼 is not an excuse for outsiders to start wars.

    2. In the space of a few hours, they completely surrounded the island of Taiwan. The message is: can you (Taiwan defense or US assistance) react in time?

Dispute Over Territories (An almost forgotten history) :
      🪖 Military conflict
It started on February 11, 2013, when 235 militants arrived in Lahad Datu, Sabah Malaysia by boat, and ended on March 24.
      Chronology
👉🏽 On February 12, 2013, Azmudi Kilam, the younger brother of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kilam III, led few hundred people armed with weapons invaded Sabah by boat from the southern Philippines and occupied Kampung Tanduo village in Lahad Datu. A confrontation occurred with local police which is about 150 km from Lahad Datu Town.
Malaysian police blocked the road. Malaysian police boats patrol nearby waters. Philippine security agencies blocked entry into the southern Philippines and deployed six naval vessels to stabilize the situation.
👉🏽 On March 1, the two sides exchanged gunfire in Kampong Tanduo village. There are 2 dead from Malaysia and 12 Sulu armed personnel.
👉🏽 On March 2, President Aquino III demanded the immediate and unconditional surrender of Sulu armed personnel hiding in Lahad Datu. The police in Lahad Datu town advised people to stay indoors at the same time. Shops were closed and the streets were deserted. Eleven primary and secondary schools in Lahad Datu Township suspended classes. Three Sulu armed men were arrested in Lahad Datu. Later that day, the police received a report from residents of Simunul, Semporna, and witnessed armed men. During the search, a shootout broke out in Simunul. The Malaysian police said that in a shootout in Semporna on March 2, six Malaysian police officers and six Sulu armed personnel were killed. There were also sightings of armed men in Kunak district, and police also conducted searches.
👉🏽 On March 3, media news was chaotic. It was reported that the gun battle in Semporna the day before had caused about 1,000 people to evacuated Semporna town.
👉🏽 On March 5 morning, Malaysian military began to attack and bomb Sulu armed personnel from the air. Philippine police blocked 67 supporters of the Sulu Sultanate from attempting to ente Sabah from Tawi-Tawi province in the southern Philippines. Philippine police said that the 67 people were from Basilan and Sulu provinces, but they were unarmed.
👉🏽 On March 7, the Sultan of Sulu announced a unilateral ceasefire and hoped that Malaysia would also cease fire. Malaysian Defense Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamid said that unless the other side surrenders unconditionally, it will not accept the ceasefire proposal. Malaysian Police Chief Ismail Omar said that 31 Sulu armed men were killed in the crossfire from March 6 to March 7.
👉🏽 On March 12, a firefight broke out between the two sides in Sungai Nyamuk, resulting in the deaths of one Malaysian soldier and three Sulu armed personnel.
Afterwards, the Malaysian side ended the siege of the village by Sulu armed personnel, secure the location and searched for remaining enemy.
👉🏽 On March 24, the military operation ended.
👉🏽 A maritime curfew was implemented on the east coast of Sabah. About 10 years later, most places lifted the curfew in 2023.
      Background
🤓 In 1658, Brunei ceded Sabah to the Sultanate of Sulu. In the second half of the 19th century, the Sulu Sultanate was gradually controlled by Spain, while Sabah was placed under British protection. The Sultanate of Sulu and the British signed an agreement in 1878 regarding the territory of North Borneo (now Sabah). The word "Pajakan/Lease" was used in the agreement. In the English version, the agreement was that the Sulu Sultanate "ceded" North Borneo to the British, but according to Sulu's claim, the Sulu Sultanate leased North Borneo to the British. U.K. In 1885, Spain gave up its sovereignty over Sabah. But the Philippines claims sovereignty over Sabah.
👉 In 1963, Sabah joined the Federation of Malaysia. At that time, Sabah belonged to Malaysia, but there was a dispute over its sovereignty. Therefore, the Malaysian Embassy in the Philippines will still pay the descendants of the Sultan of Sulu RM5,300 every year, but Malaysia considers this amount to be transfer money, while Sulu considers this amount to be rent.
      Consequences
👉 After this incident, Malaysia stopped paying the cession agreement signed on January 22, 1878, which provided for the annual payment of RM5,300 in cession money to the heirs of the Sultan of Sulu.
      Epilogue
👉🏽 In July 2019, representatives of the descendants of the former Sulu Sultan sued the Malaysian government first in Spain and then in the French Arbitration Court for US$14.9 billion in compensation.
👉🏽 In February 2022, the French arbitrator awarded Petronas’ two building properties in Luxembourg as compensation.
👉🏽 In July 2023, Malaysia’s appeal was successful.

China has 92% Han Chinese, Taiwan is 98% Han. Taiwanese is as Chinese as it is. So, Taiwan is truly part of China.
The Taiwanese dialect you spoke about, it is actually the Fujian dialect, all Taiwanese are descendents of immigrants from Fujian, the province in the mainland that sits directly next to Taiwan island.
China's 3rd aircraft carrier is also named Fujian, sending a message to Taiwan, that is certainly not lost to them.
As for the language, both sides of the Straits speak Mandarin and is known colloquailly as Putonghua. The standard Chinese that you say is spoken by the Taiwanese is Mandarin.
The only difference between the Mandarin spoken in China vs Taiwan is not the spoken language itself but the written characters. China's is simplified Chinese while Taiwan uses traditional Chinese. When you want to translate English into Mandarin, Google translate will ask you which you prefer.
This is not to say that the writing characters are different. No, they are the same, except that China's simplified version consists of fewer strokes for simplicity while Taiwan sticks to its traditional writing passed down from a thousand years.

While China does its naval drills, riots are happening in the New-Caledonia, a former French colony which is now an French oversea territory. Most of French politicians accuse foreign plots, including China. This shows no Western country likes any separatism. It's a matter of sovereignty, they said. But they all split many countries in two parts and more, like India (Pakistan and Bangladesh belonged to India), Korea, Ethiopia, Syria (Lebanon is a French made country), and so on. Now, they want to make Taiwan an independent country. China could retaliate, encouraging separatism in the New-Caledonia, in the Falklands, in Northern Ireland, in Puerto Rico, in many U.S. Pacific Islands, and so on.

The military drill showed quite a lot of information. Let’s look at the situation before Taiwan’s new president Lai’s inauguration speech. Chinese president Xi’s position on Lai’s election has been mild and said as long as both sides agree that they belong to the same race, everything is negotiable. There was no sign of an imminent invasion. Quite a few US officials including Janet Yellen and Antony Blinken visited China. China stressed the importance of Taiwan. US Officials also visited Taiwan. There was telephone communication between Chinese and US officials just before the speech. Before the Taiwan new president inauguration speech, all signs, including a leaked draft, showed that it would be a mild speech that both sides can accept. To China, everything indicated that US would restrict Taiwan not sending provocative messages.
But the actual speech said Taiwan and China are two separate countries that are not affiliated with each other. This is very near to declare independence, which is the red line for the mainland China. I think China was surprised by the event. Foreign minister Wang Yi commented two times on the speech and claimed Lai a traitor of the Chinese nation and ancestors, which was unprecedented. Then within 2 days, military drill started.
The message is not only for Taiwan but also for the US. It indicates that
    1. The relationship between Taiwan and mainland China is unrepairable from now on. Military and economic actions will be taken. Remember last year Taiwan had 15 million USD surplus in trade with mainland China due to the fact that China does not have tariff on Taiwan goods.
    2. China will not trust the US to mediate China and Taiwan. It is likely that China felt that they were cheated and betrayed by the US. This also means Chinese government will deal with Taiwan directly in the future. The US may lose her influence on China’s Taiwan policy.
The more worrying issue is why this happened on world stage. The sequence of events is :
    1. China refused buying US treasury bonds.
    2. The US put a lot of pressures and sanctions on China, trying to split China and Russia. (The US was using a wrong way to do this, China will not bent down to external pressure. Negotiation, especially on economic deals, would have a better chance to succeed).
    3. Putin visited China and signed a historical agreement for cooperation but not in military.
    4. The provocative inauguration speech occurred. It is almost certain that US know this before hand and possibly encouraged Taiwan to do so as a revenge of China-Russia partnership.
This would lead to more intense conflicts between the US and China. The consequence could be beyond Taiwan strait.
