90bu Wheat? 😳

- So we have arrived at the first 1/4 Mike bought back in 2020 and with that has had the most money invested into the land bringing up the soil health.
This also happens to be the 1/4 with 40-80ac of heavy trash (organic matter) that Mike was trying to seed through this spring - see video here.
• Should have harrowed 🤦...
Spoiler Alert: The non-harrowed high organic matter ran 100bu avg due to the moisture retention of the July heat and lack of rain at filling. But the rest of the fleld did not do that, so the whole field avg was around 88-90bu ish acre. Still amazing though! And very thankful!

Organic matter is key in drought conditions and for soil health.
in the uk cover crops are becoming more of a thing for topsoil retention, moisture retention and ground cover, even in our generally wet climate were starting to get really really dry springs and early summers where you need the moisture we get non, and then the summer is wet when you dont want it . the cover crops also have root systems which help keep the soil healthy.
@@bens8919 Using more and more cover crops mid Midwest. My cousin start it no telling in the mid-70s.
That has helped a lot but we are more soy beans and corn here with some wheat.

Organic material and cover crops is the key but that far north, in Canada, there ain't nothing going to grow though winter time .

It's nice to see you combining a field where you can actually achieve some enjoyment time & not have to constantly dealing with the "Plugged Demon"
If he wasn't just complaining and making content he could have it resolved. He could install s-series chopper knives or remove guides under the discharge beater, remove ramps on the floor of the chopper or even try the chopper in 1st not 2nd.
In the right conditions, all combines and equipment operate like they are meant to. There is more than one reason most crops can't be harvested green and plugging combines is just a small one.
@@alexdyck6339I don't know how much you think he makes from CZcams, but thousands of dollars of downtime from a plugged machine isn't a good investment for the Tube.
And in the middle of harvest isn't a good time to do a major retrofit at his own expense on a machine Deere messed up on.
@@alexdyck6339also, the issue as I understand it is that there is a shelf basically between the chopper and the spreader that doesn't have any mechanism to move material across it, and some products build up on the shelf and then it backs up into the chopper.
So the issue is the dead zone not the blades.
@@alexdyck6339 again I say, he is losing more money from the down time than he is making in YT revenue, so claiming that he's not fixing it because he wants the drama is silly.
Plus, he has the dealer on speed dial, do you not think that he HASN'T been talking to them about it, and would get it taken care of by them if they were willing or able to do anything?
He may also have parts on order, or someone scheduled to deal with it.

Mike, congratulations on the excellent crop. I grew up on a farm in the Swan River Valley region. East of your north farm just inside the Manitoba border. In 60-years, we have never experienced a complete crop failure. You are working too hard farming in two regions Buddy. Consider divesting the south farm and expand the north. The reason the Swift Current is a "Brown" Soil zone is because over hundreds/thousands of years, the area is/will always subject to drought/low rainfall.

Nice crop Mike, glad to see your north crops are substantially better than they were down south. I recommend using a vertical till on this field to break up the trash, especially if you are planning to seed canola again next year. Eventually that trash build up is going to give you Disease problems

In watching the amount of time and inputs and labour that it takes to grow and harvest a crop these days, I cannot but wonder as to how difficult it must have been for your forefathers Mike who only had horse power to till, seed and harvest even a quarter section.

I don’t know if the x9 has this same button but on our 780 right next to the auto steer button, there is a button with an E on it to the right. You can use that to switch your tracts rather than fiddling with it on the screen. Just a thought!
I tilt the header to about4degrees in that lodged stuff.
It tips the guard points downward just a little , otherwise the header just slides over a lot of the heads, and hit #3 to get on the ground.
Then get thru the lodged stuff, back to 0 degrees.and #2.
But I think you might want to heavy harrow that stubble.
Just my thoughts.

There is a fine line between too much though that is too hard to plant and leads to disease issues. If it was easy, everybody would still be doing it.

And in our area by saskatoon we averaged 10 bus, missed all the rains all spring and summer until harvest started then its been raining steady. And the wheat is all bleached because of it. Just a great year

In the UK: Old guy way of saying someone missed some crop at the edge of the header is "You left some soldiers standing!" Was obviously more common when we all had to manual steer! If you left some near a road, you always went back and got them to avoid comments from neighbouring farms!
Woow, impresive yield 100bu/ac it's about 6,7 t/ha in our European metric system, never seen such numbers of spring wheat, usually it tops at 5t/ha

Wheat Pete in Ontario starts to get impressed around 100 Bu, irrigated or good weather year WSW in the MidAtlantics normal is between 100-135 BPA. Nothing like the UK & New Zealand top produce hang out around the 200 area.
with that good yeilds. you should seed 10 inch spacing

Hi Mike, do you not use lifters on your header? When I was combining here in the UK I don't remember ever taking them off. Apart from repairs to the knife etc.

Was that field cleansed and treated with extra potash, by some flames and mushroom cloud? Picture perfect example how correctly, applied fire helps immeasurably? The many multiple residue easily makes up for and recovers the burn fuel??? I think im going to go have one of thosemocha power shakes in celelabration!

We had some 100 bushel soft white at northern Sask. we had our 8080 with a 30 foot swath going about 3.5
I thought your x9 should do that at least in the wheat

Did the math. Looks like 1200-1300bu/hr. You are keeping it down to keep loss down. Nice to see. A bushel per acre is a lot of money if you can make the time to get the rest of it.

But Mike, there's always reasons ,to be thankful . Maybe a break even season.
In europe winter wheat would yield anywhere between 10 and 12 t/ha, which would be double of your yield, but we need a lot af treatments, lots of fertilizer…
We use earlifters and put the reel far forward, but winter wheat is the worst crop to lift up if it is lodged hard down…
According to Peter Johnson the physiological limit for wheat is 7 kernels per row

What variety of wheat is this Spring Wheat (very nice sample ), as well what amount of fert did you put down ...why would you not use your chopper to its max if your dealing with so much and new straw

Usually it comes down to dealer support and the best bang for you bucks. Speed, fuel efficiency how breakdowns.
Most combines do a pretty good far as quality of grain.
Soposed to be a new Case combine coming out soon.
Likely a class 10. Probably similar to the Newholland combine.
Think u will try Red one next time if the reviews of it are good?
I think some are somewhat disappointed in the x9.
They felt it should have had a little more power a little more capacity for the money anyway.
Man i had a neighbor that had a 125bu wheat this year. Just mint hey. Protien wasnt good but il take a yeild over a protein anyday
