Mike says something super important and it applies to a multitude of folks playing .. the learning process in soloing must go beyond the key of the song.. he nailed it with his impersonation of a break that really never broke out of the key.... Play through the song and with progression and your playing , fretboard knowledge and solos will get better.

I found Mike Marshall’s ArtistWorks beginner course free through my local public library. He really simplifies the fundamentals in manageable segments that are not overwhelming. I encourage anyone who’s interested to check it out.
