Thank you! I have watched several videos about installing backup cameras and this is the only one suggesting powering the camera from accessory power. Exactly what I was looking for, and this is not the first time I have found what I was looking for on your channel, so you have a new sub here!

Great tutorial but this might be worth pointing out. Some license plate style units now have bright LEDs that activate when power is delivered to the camera at night. So, if you are constantly powering that kind of a camera those bright LEDs will be on even if you are not in reverse gear. Might be worth considering. Correct me if I am wrong. -Merv Himself

I was struggling getting a camera RCA through the boot at the top of the hatch and your technique of soap, pulling the plastic out of the ends of the grommet and pulling the RCA backwards totally helped me out. I wish I'd found the video last night. It would have saved me hours of frustration.

The advice on getting through the boot is priceless....I spent 2 hours trying to get through my Grand Cherokee boot until I remembered to use soap (Face in Hands) I had already watched this vid and didn't remember...and although I didn't have a giant sized zip tie...The way the guys looped it makes it much easier. You can't appreciate this stuff until you tangle with it yourself..Great channel ...I stopped getting anything done cause I am always watching!

That was absolutely brilliant. I've just bought a reverse camera and the instructions on mine aren't that great (my car is a Honda Accord with a built in OEM sat/nav/gps screen). The way you explained the power for the camera at the beginning and under what circumstances you might want to use that red wire cleared my confusion with my unit (that these accessories aren't only for my type of vehicle but for all the others out there too, including aftermarket head units). Thank you soooooo much!

Thanks Guys for your time and knowledge! So many you tube videos are done by people that really don't know what they are doing and its clear you do. I spent a long time in the auto repair business and its nice to see someone that's not installing something in their driveway. Its nice to see you have the right tools and knowledge. Its appreciated. And I got a few new ways to do things like using a big modified nylon tie strap as a snake. Ive been using electricians tapes for pulling wires, nice to have options.

Not sure how I didn't find your videos 2 weeks ago when I STARTED installing my new in dash unit with a back up camera, but man, I'm sure glad I found it today. You guys explain this better than any other channel I've watched for this, and I watched A LOT. Why doesn't everybody wire them up the way you do. It makes it SOOOOOO much easier. I've been trying for 2 WEEKS to get mine working. Granted, I complicated mine a bit because I have a previously installed rear view mounted dual dash cam and backup camera that I'm trying to splice together with the indash. I really don't want to lose my front dash cam's recording feature, so if you guys can give me any kind of hints about how to wire them both up together, or if they can't be wired together (which is what I suspect because the rear view mounted dash cam is on the back of that touch screen and I don't think my cheap little indash will support picture in picture), is there a way to wire it so that I will get the rear camera view on both, and then the dash cam would have to still project to the touch screen on the rear view mount. NOBODY has a video even close to telling you how to do that? And the rear view mirror touch screen currently gets it's power from a 12 volt plug, and I have the port that it's plugged into on a kill switch that I switch off when I stop the engine. I KNOW there's a better way to do that.

Hey Dean and Fernando, I have already connected the cam using the reverse light as a power source. Now, I want continuous power so I can use the "cam view" feature as you described. Can I just tap into the accessory wire behind the Pioneer and splice it to the red cam wire (near the rca male)? Of course the red cam wire is already connected to the reverse gear wire off the Pioneer currently. Will this accomplish my goal?

I just need to clarify. So you splice the power wire on the camera to the 12v switched power on the radio harness and you connect the purple wire to the reverse light 12v wire? That's how I understood it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

the last thing you need to worry about is the air bags going off. back when they first came out yes but not its not a concern. when was the last time you saw a AB pop from doing a install of a stereo or back up camera mind you everything is fused now.

      @anthonylandry7924 Před 6 lety

Chicago1 Maybe you should read my comment again or get someone to read it for you.
There are sensors on a vehicle that deploy airbags on impact that are active
at all times. That is why you should disconnect the battery when working on
a vehicle among other things like shorting something to ground.
Maybe you should read the instructions or owners manual before working on
your vehicle or maybe your one of those people who like to live on the edge.LOL🇺🇸

It's a myth bs whatever you wanna call it.millions of people work on their car everyday with the battery not disconnected and how many reports of airbags go off? 0 nada zip zero..maybe you should understand how airbags work. The news media would havr a field day with it. It would be posted all over youtube.twitter Facebook, etc etc..go hall monitor somewhere else. The most damage I heard is maybe blow a few fuses. might as well keep the belief you shouldn't swim 15 mins after you ear. I hate arguing with idiots you never win. I have a 2003 Buick range ever CX configurations and I would like to place a backup camera on the vehicle. What would be the easiest one to install on that vehicle?

So if I did not want to hook it to my reverse then don't use the purple wire and I would have to manually turn the camera on through the stereo right?
My Honda has a built in reverse camera built into the i MID, so i wanted to use my stereo for the front camera

Hi I have a brand new 2022 Mazda 6 Sedan, which already has a back up camera fitted, however the graphics are crap, can I buy an aftermarket camera and hook it up to my cars existing wiring at the rear of the car for a simple fix? And if so which camera should I look for with the clearest images, and parking guide lines, or this information sent from the head unit n the dash?

So power and trigger are two different wires for the camera rather than the red doing both?

I'm installing a backup camera on a 1997 Chevy C1500 this weekend. I got a Pioneer camera and an Alpine radio. The camera is an adhesive mount and I was planning on putting it on top of the receiver hitch. Any tips that would be different for a pickup truck like wiring through bed and into the cab? Thanks. Great video

If the camera is powered by accessory power is the power on it when accessory power is on if so will that shorten the life of the camera or is the camera on only on when triggered by reverse trigger and head unit.

Nice vid especially with the Pioneer settings! Can you do one with a PAC audio module and factory back up camera retention? I will have to look at my avh-p 4400bh and see how to trigger mine. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
