Subscribe! / austinevans
In this video I compare Windows 8.1 vs Chrome OS with two low cost sub $250 laptops, the HP Stream 13 and Asus Chromebook C300. Sporting very similar hardware but with very different operating systems are either of these right for you?

To put things in perspective, you could buy both of these laptops for less than the price of an iPad. Crazy.
Doesn't surprise me. Apple overprices everything.
THANK YOU! IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR LOW-BUDGET COMPUTERS!!
wait so witch one is better for gaming(league of legends, hearthstone, minecraft etc.) because my pc broke and now im useing my brother pc and im trying to get a new pc with out playing that much soo witch one is more for gameing and can still handle every day use?? chromebook or stream???
Steven Boateng stream. Chromebook software isn't for gaming at all. But I hear steam is available for it so I guess it will be game-able
Steven Boateng the stream without doubt, chromeos has no chance playing them.
Why anyone would ever want to use Chrome OS is beyond me...
***** Well, if I was a student, I couldn't be without having actual programs. This just looks like it's for browsing the web.
I'm a hardcore pro gamer, can this run Atari Pong on 2 FPS?
ToadAwesome12 no but you can play minecraft at 100000000 fps and gta v
ToadAwesome12 No but it can play Crisis 3 at 500 FPS
it would run at 909374263 fps on only ultra settings
ToadAwesome12 I'm a total noob and even I know that's impossible!
ToadAwesome12 nope it runs 1 Fps
Can you make a new version of this kinda series
MASTER CHACHO The new ones come in 4gb ram and 64gb of internal storage.
This actually made me want to try a Chrome book, well done Austin. Happy new year!
I adore my Chromebook!
Would love to see you review one Barnacules Nerdgasm. They're really quite awesome.
I got my HP 14 (Gen 2) back in May 2014, and I have not looked back. Completely meets the productivity needs that I have right now.
Chromebook is best kind
Dude, we have chrome books at my school as computers we can take home, and they get trashed super fast. Build quality is terrible, plastic just dosnt feel right.
If you borrow my laptop and the volume is at 16% go wash your hands immediately
What? :D I don't get it
Filip Pham the innocent mind...
lol
XD
You are everywhere I fucking go...
Your video endings are always so Happy and Motivating to watch the next video! I love it!
I will take windows on any given day.
Windows is pure suffering. Didn't know you were SM tho.
dude when u go to college build ur own custom built pc for like gaming and private stuff and for work use the chromebook
DRnextep EXACTLY
DRnextep You made me confused........
Yeah,Chrome OS does nothing
The build quality looks so flimsy. I dislike the warping on the screen and the way when you type the whole keyboard appears to move on the Chromebook, eek. GREAT comparison though, you pack so much info into 5 minutes!
The build quality would be due to design. They were designed to be cheap. Most larger laptops I've worked on have a solid metal frame that the LCD mounts to while these smaller and cheaper laptops only have two metal posts and no metal bar support over the top or below between them. Can't say all netbooks, chromebooks, and ultrabooks are like this as I've only worked on one netbook in the past.
Thanks!
James O'Gadarty DamnDude I dunt nuuu
omds i see you on every video xD
21 GB for Windows? are you kidding me? that's not even enough to save 10% of my movie, hope you can add the storage.
Yeah you can use a MicroSD card or even plug in a USB 3.0 hard drive.
D Gou It should be as long you're not thinking of using very heavy applications.
No problem, glad I can help.
you can use micro sd cards
Remember, Windows lies and calls Gibibytes Gigabytes, which are slightly bigger

I was interested in buying one of these, and I was looking for an Austin Evans video reviewing it!!!! 💗💗
Thanks to your video I ended up buying a (40 more) HP 14 inch laptop with the same CPU and ram, but with a 500GB hdd. I haven't unboxed it yet, but it felt like a good offer to have next to my main monitor to watch youtube videos, emails etc, while I work on the main laptop/monitor.
Dude; in Europe you can get: "i3; 4gb ram; multi finger touchscreen; 11,5" 900:1600 HD; windows 8,1 one year of office; 250 GB rom", for €300. That's just crazy compared to this.
Exactly. Man, I love being European.
Yeah, but you can't take tgat thing with you. But if you're not going to use it anywhere besides home, you should be getting a computer.
Ward Huyskes What store?
Well I haven't seen it here..
What laptop are you referring to?
As someone who has used cheap Windows "netbooks" before, I can tell you it's only going to get laggier after a few months. Just get a Chromebook.
For the most part, all computers will get laggier over time.
murkinstock The nice thing about the Chromebook is when you power wash it (Reset it), all your information is connected to your Google account so you don't need to set it up all over again.
Dave Riley It's still underpowered.
***** what do you do to it?
I'd install a lighter linux distro than ChromeOS, like 512mb or less. Seems like Chromebooks are trying to merge android and linux, somewhat. Get the chromebook and then scrap the OS.
Thanks for the review. It was way better than some of the other ones I've seen, and the suggestions to buy extra memory with the computer.
i used the stream 13 for 5 years before switching to a chromebook and I had a love/hate relationship with the stream 13
hey Austin! can you make a $50 dollar gaming pc build?
LOL
Are you stupid?
10/10 IGN
Trollin'
get a usb, a tiny motherboard, a stick of ram, and a carboard box
11/10 would build
Does this laptop able to run Minesweeper?
Andre Phillip Santos u wiul hav 2 ovrclock 2 evn satrt it m8
Nope only timagotchi emulator
Waznac OG Liar, mine crashed on Tamagotchi Emulator.
+Andre Phillip Santos seriously? these laptops will only run windows 98 on safe mode
+Andre Phillip Santos It runs the League of legends launcher, so you should be fine.
Considering the prices have dropped substantially since this video was posted ($150 Can for the Stream at Best Buy) I think it's a good buy just for a laptop you can use for writing your memoirs and doing basic accounting and youtube surfing. Good review. Glad I found you. Will definitely check more up to date reviews from you. Subscribed!!!
Would not have pegged you as a fan of the RT Podcast
cool beans yo
I would get the stream if it wasn't that weird color.
Get the stream 14 at Same price and it's a gaming laptop
xXTas3r FTWXx "gaming laptop" lol
+Kim Jong Illest sort of:()
xXTas3r FTWXx ...not even a little bit lol
+Kim Jong Illest You can play Portal 2 and Minecraft on it
This is a tough choice. On one hand the Chromebook has its plusses and smooth functionality is important to me.
But I also like the functions of windows...but not windows 8.
Touch choice. I think its Chromebook for me.
If you want more feature you can put a lite version of Linux on the chromebook...but that may defeat the purpose...
Chromebooks is basically a brick without wifi
hi9580 I get WiFi everywhere :D
Install chrome on windows 8 Lol ..Chromebooks are dead with these low cost laptops .Cant wait to try steam in home streaming on one
I'd probably wait for Windows 10 where they get rid of all that metro-organized/grid apps list.
Neither, they are both shit. JK the windows one can run GTA 5 4k maxed settings 500 fps.
500 fps? i know you are joking kiddo but how the hell would the 230 windows one load gta 5 at 4k. My pc cant even do 4k
+Ayaan Qayyum He said he knew he was kidding...
+NANOOK31 F No
***** read my whole comment. I said I know he's joking but I was trying to apply logic
windows is better than chrome
I would like to have the HP Stream as a bed side computer, to do web browsing and light work on. For things like video editing and games, a desktop is preferred but I do like my ThinkPad.
Hey Austin, nice video!
Would you recommend getting a Toshiba Chromebook 2 (330€) and use it coupled with a slightly upgraded Office PC running an older Core 2 Duo with 4GB DDR2 RAM?
I am not into heavy gaming, and was just curious whether it would make sense to use a Chromebook with my outdated PC. The Chromebook mostly for web stuff obviously and the Windows PC when I really need MS Office, or want to code for school, or want to play lightweight and old games such as AoE2.
The Stream would be on the top of my list if they upgraded it slightly, like an IPS screen, 128GB SSD, etc. even if it was $400-$500
u made that money back from the fire in no time haha
Who's watching 2017
not me
I mean no, I'm no time traveler, that would be ridiculous...haha...ha
imm watching n 2017
Monica Samantha me
I see this every where
I got a sixteen inch screen with 4GB of RAM at 2.4 ghz and five hundred GB for $300
Lol....
A Wooden Spoon Prove it
Asus X55A. Bought it on sale I think back in 2013....
PROVE IT!
StUpId GaMeR How would you like?
Video
+Austin Evans It is the Intel Celeron N2830 not the Intel Pentium N2830, and it is the Intel Celeron N2840 not the Intel Pentium N2840.
That was the brand new one they upgraded it idiot
Can you do a video on how many computers, laptops, and consoles you have?
I bought my last laptop for school in early 2011. It's still running fine. I tried Ubuntu to see if I got better performance as it was starting to slow significantly, and it helped a lot. I'm currently running win 10 on it after upgrading from 7 and have no complaints. I have upgraded ram from 3GB to 6 as well as replaced the processor with a better one. The great thing about that is both parts were very cheap, {4GB ram $20, dual core processor (forget speed) $10} this is a big boost to the life of this and I fully intend to pickup another cheap one when the time comes, as this has worked out so well.
Now I do only use it for browsing the internet, basically. No gaming or anything like that. I have a bigger desktop with much better specs for work and using apps that are more intense. Though I do use my laptop to run old emulators (SNES, N64 and such) So lighter games to work fine. I suspect for most users cheap laptops are just fine.
$70 gets you a 2006 MacBook: Better screen, better keyboard, better trackpad, better specs (for the most part), better everything. Run Windows or Linux on it and you're golden. If you want to pay some more, get a newer model.
***** No - if you want Linux/Chromium OS or Windows 10 on a 2006 MacBook, you can install them both just fine; thus, it can be a cheap Windows or Linux laptop. You can pick up a 2007 model with a 2.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM. In terms of build quality, this thing is STILL built better than various Windows PCs today. If I were in the market for a cheap laptop and didn't care too much about buying something brand-new and ultra light-weight, I'd just get the MacBook.
***** I'm not a fanboy... the definition of a fanboy is someone who practically religiously follows a company or product, yet he doesn't know crap about either one. I know more about Macs than many do, and I know more about Windows and Windows PCs than many Windows users do. Heck, I own about 85 computers; several of these machines are Windows machines.
+maccollectorZ (Commenting Account) Where can you get a 2006 macbook for $70 USD? Their iphone chargers cost more.
Matthew Noneya eBay.
maccollectorZ (Commenting Account) Is lynx what macs usually runs? And if it can run windows, why do my friends say they can't download some of the pc games I play?
Is a $230 laptop worth it? No, a laptop that only costs $230 is not worth it.
Chromebooks are basically nonproductive for things other than web apps, and the HP Stream has no internal space. But I have seen some Inspiron's and ASUS laptops for $220-$250 that have way more storage, and full Windows.
How would you know? You're way outta the times old man.
ZedNova
What?
John Smith See this is what i'm talking about john smith, you were born when? Like 1580? How would you know anything about computers, how are you even talking to me?
ZedNova

Keep it up bro
I miss these old videos :(
Been using the HP for three months at the university. Immediately disinstalled Windows and got Ubuntu and... it's great. I need to browse the internet, watch movies and write. Power is enough to do this without slowdowns, screen looks good, battery life is quite impressive, keyboard is good (even though "page up/down" keys on the right are annoying), all doesn't feel premium but it doesn't even feel cheap at all. Storage is tiny but get a 64GB micro SD for $15 and here's a great student computer. Major issue with trackpad software on windows (Ubuntu is much better). Seriously, this is not a toy or a single-use computer. Treat him right and you'll like it.
A couple more things: it's surely not lightweight but it's not that heavy. Speakers are ok but not very loud. Camera of course is meant only for videochat, not hi-res but it doesn't feel "2005".
+cicalinarrot thankyou
Buy an Asus Chromebook, uninstall ChromeOS, and install Windows. End of drama.
That ain't possible 😂😂😒😒
Safety first, Chrome OS is locked. Except for dev mode and flashing a SeaBIOS to then dualboot a legacy OS but whatever
+TheSola10 search "Chromebook developer mode" on yt
+Klockgaming why? android is complete trash compared to windows 10
Better off with ubuntu as it's built to run Linux anyway.
question:
will the hp stream run minecraft at about 500fps? also does it run steam games, such as beamnj.drive at a good speed? also does it run sims 4 with no lag? I'm thinking of buying the go stream, but I wanna know if it runs games smoothly with no lag. also, is the go streAm i5 processor?
Austin , just a question which got nothing to do with laptops : do You go to the gym or You do any home workout ?
Thanks mate
Stream because that blue is actually nice. Plus I like windows. Im sure there is a way to ad ram or something...
there is... dont use the desktop ones tho find the laptop kit ones
Kevinas Zeveliauskas I believe that the ram is soldered to the motherboard. So no, you cant upgrade the ram
***** yeah i realized that like 3 hours after i posted that reply but they are greedy bastards
I'll take the windows : )
***** :D
I had an HP stream and it didn't have much space on it
Trinity Miller internal memory is an easy fix :P
:-)
same
I bought the stream a few days ago I loved it!
I suggested the Stream for my little brother. Thanks for advice!
Could I run bf4 on ultra and stream arma 3 without lag?
***** REALLY? OMG IM BUYING RIGHT NOW, i just paied, thanks friend should come in a week. cant wait 2 play bf4 on ultra and arma 3 while streaming and cooking a nice dinner of steak and lamb with gravy and mash potato and do the dishes and drink some apple juice.
***** thanks man, i was also offered the whole company of google for 34$ if i had the right tech to run it, do u think i could run a whole world wide serach engoone on it?
TheFgtFromDownTheRoa D i hate to be the bare of bad news here but i doubt those games would even load correctly even at SUB HD/lettings. you need to spend at least double to get those games to be playable on a laptop
***** i know but i just wanted to throw my 2 cents out there lol
ATLEAGLE579 wow thanks man i didnt already KNOW that
Would you rather :
a) Buy a Chromebook
b) Buy a low spec Windows laptop
Answer : When it comes to low spec computers I would rather buy a Chromebook because of the less tense operating system that comes with it. I don´t use desktop programs, so for me a Chromebook is okay because it doesn't come loaded with shit bloatware as other Windows laptops. Its just the browser, all you need for writing documents, listen to music, play simple games etcetera. Believe me, I have a low spec Samsung laptop with windows 7 and it´s a horrible experience ....
+Brian Samuel Why not just buy the laptop with the better display and put Chromium OS on it...
+Brian Samuel I have chromebook and that OS little bit sucked so i installed Linux Ubuntu and its perfect ;) I can run CodeBlocks and CSS, HTML... IDEs ;) Google is just piece of crap wich can also not optimize Android so Chrome OS sucks too and sometimes Ubuntu is faster ;)
+Brian Samuel This whole argument makes no sense. Windows 8.1 (and now 10) is much lighter than windows 7 was, so that comparison is ridiculous. Also, you do use desktop programs, even if you use a Chromebook. Every OS has native apps or it simply wouldn't function. Windows just has a more established desktop ecosystem. And in response to the bloatware argument: why not buy signature? Microsoft actually sells top selling windows PC's like the stream in signature editions that come free of any bloatware. And if that doesn't appeal to you, you can just do a clean installation of windows using a recovery image from Microsoft and nuke the bloatware yourself. Then at the end of the day, you'll have a stable widows PC that runs faster that a Chromebook and still has access to the entire chrome ecosystem via the browser.
Nick Grace The Chromebook would still be much much faster than the Windows laptop even if they had the exact same specs. For the same reason the Xbox 360 can still run fairly modern videogames on 512mb of RAM in 2015 even though it was created in 2005.
+Cernunnos dude ram doesn't matter for gaming
I'm thinking about getting the stream 14 with the 4GB RAM LOVE YOUR REVIEW THANK YOU FOR ACTUALLY GOING INTO DETAIL I don't think the Chromebook would make it around my son 😅
Austin: Hey guys this is Austin
Me: Hey Austin why the fuck is this in 360p?
Was that linus as your google account picture ? xD
Are you new to this channel?
the original austin evans?
Andrew Hill the 'Duncan33303'
On the Apple side, you get one cardboard piece of the box for an 11 inch MacBook air
TBH any apple computer is better then both of the computers in the video
I have had the x360 stream for a month now. probably the best laptop I've ever had that is perfect for a traveling network technician. instant wake up from sleep and 2 days of battery life is just amazing.
I just got a HP for Christmas and i love it. Their is nothing wrong with it and it is fun to be on and use. A few problems with the keypad but otherwise i love it and recommend it.
I just saw that hp blue laptop on Techsource setup wars potato edition
same that's y I came
what episode?
Is life worth it?
no
+Tekno77 me too/same
I got scared seeing your profile picture....
dont judge me.
+David Sobrito lol me too
My HP Stream fell of my bed that's 1.5 meters from the ground and survived with some cosmetic damage, but the screen hinge and everything is perfect, i think that machine is indestructible.
I bought my lenovo notebook for €249 at Amazon Prime Day 2 years ago and it has a 4th gen i3 and 4gigs of RAM. I had a SSD laying around and since then it‘s still my daily driver for surfing and emails. It boots up in 5 secs and is incredibly fast.
Hey Austin, great vid and great to see you fully back on track after that fire a while ago.
Which software do you use for recording your windows screen?
I used an Elgato Game Capture HD to record both screens.
Austin Evans didn't expect an answer here, so be a BIG thank you going out to you! So this is some additional hardware?! Would you recommend buying it? I need something to record my screen during Skype with my girl.
Tobias Tesching fraps or obs (obs is free app to pc) and you can record your pc screen and your voice ;)
candiedfir7 thanks a lot, I'll try it
Tobias Tesching bandicam is free and better
What is the wallpaper on Hp laptop?
Izual / Créateur & Gameur Type in 'Facets' in google.
Thanks
I only have laptops for work. Microsoft office and the ability to project in a screen is all I need. My NES still plays all my favorite games and when I feel adventurous I plug in the ol SNES!
the hp looks appealing from a portable computer perspective. the storage is interesting, wondering how much can be done with an addin card, apps?
Is there any good laptop that are about 500$ - 1000$ and can play lot of big game like call of duty advance warfare, battlefield 4, gta 4 ...??
I mean good enough to play not enough to run the game
So alienware and cyberpower ?
I've been looking but I am not good at looking at spec I don't even know what graphics card is
The Lenovo Y40 or 50 are really good choices for $750 - $1250.
shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y40/index.html
I understand the Chromebook doesn't need much storage but what on earth you do with a 32 GB Laptop with Windows???????
My 1 TB Hard Disk is seem small sometime and you get only 17 GB free in that HP Laptop !!!!!!! I have installed software more than 17 GB
Well, it's not a hard disk, it is flash memory, an SSD. You can install small OSes on these things and still retain 30 if not more gigabytes in your SSD. Slap a MicroSD card in for that extra 32 or 64 gb of storage and you're set for general computing, such as internet browsing, and even light steam gaming. Yes, there are programs that can be huge, but they are normally games (coughcoughCoD:AWcough) or the Adobe Suite.
cw3040 COD:AW can't be install in this thing without changing the SSD completly :p
Yes I can install any Linux distro and get more storage in the process but still it doesn't feel right, that's my thought at least.
Kawshik Ahmed If that doesn't feel quite right, Windows XP takes up like 1 or 2 gb and its free (sorta kinda abandonware) and its regarded as one of the best windows OSes like ever. Remove the shitty bloatware (IE, Microsoft Office (replace with kingsoft, lighter weight and free) etc.) and voici, a good smooth-operating laptop that's relatively cheap and can even do light XP-era gaming (BF1942, Warcraft II, CoD 2, DOOM)
cw3040 I don't need a new Laptop I have one and it's quite new. I am just saying selling a 32 GB windows Laptop sounds dumb to me, just that
Kawshik Ahmed Also grab a 64gb MicroSD from amazon (www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Adapter-SDSDQUAN-128G-G4A-Newest-Version/dp/B00M562LF4/ref=lp_3015433011_1_5/184-8043992-0375634?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1415474749&sr=1-5) and its still under 300 bucks. Grab a 128 gb microsd (www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Adapter-SDSDQUAN-128G-G4A-Newest-Version/dp/B00M562LF4/ref=lp_3015433011_1_5/184-8043992-0375634?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1415474749&sr=1-5 WHY DOES THIS EVEN) and your price still stays low.
I am watching this on the hip notebook windows 10 before I came a cross this video I love it!
Bought one in grey with the black keyboard, and slate effect around it, it was used when I bought it and some keys aint work, but I plug in my usb keyboard and sorted, when you consider I only paid £25 for it in the uk, I really got a bargain and love it and rather like windows 10 I have to admit.
Hold space while you watch this video.
Lol
can it play games if i would use 8gb ram?
nba king
Yeah.
It'll play games like:
Solitare
Chess
Minesweeper
Hearts
Backgammon
Checkers
Purble Place
Mahjong
FreeCell
All at 15 fps :)
Mabye some other games too!
Sorry, but this laptop really wont play alot of games. :p
these laptops are so low spec 8gb of ram wont do anything. the hp could play 07 runescape, but that's about it
nba king ram isn't that important. The minimum amount of ram u actually need is 2 gigs, it's mostly about GPU for gaming
U Jelly? more likely to be the cpu
Chronimus no, it's not. GPU is for gaming and CPU is for general task stuff
you can get a used stream for £80 on ebay, retail in the UK is £180 so if you go for the HP Stream, I would recommend buying used
how is the stream when it comes to music programs like iTunes or Amazon player?
out of curiosity who are using chrome OS? I can't seem to figure who google is aiming to sell this product too. You can't say students as most of them need either mac or windows to run certain programs. The only people i can think of is my mum who just uses skype and browse the internet, but even she uses her tablet more than her laptop.
I agree for me chrome os wudnt work for me. But it could be used as spare laptop if you only need the internet
I tell you, even though I have a considerably powerful PC, when I go to college, a Chromebook would be an extremely cheap portable "powerhouse" for my usage later on, considering that they're only going to get better over time.
It's marketed towards students, people with low budget, very light users, light users that only do facebook and skype and such, et cetera.
RusticKey yh its aimed at ppl who mainly use the internet and it could also be a good cheap spare laptop for when your on the go
Andy Liu Google Hangouts
***** yh chromebooks have their uses just like windows. i use word documents alot, photo editing programmes occasionally and play games so i need a windows pc. also chromebooks are quite cheap which is great as with windows pc you cant just buy the cheapest one as the cheapest one may usually lag like hell
What's that wallpaper Austin always uses.
I can't quite identify which one, but it's made by Justin Maller. Just google him, he has some amazing wallpapers.
That one he has is Division II by Justin Maller. My profile picture is Division I. Check out www.facets.la/
That has all his artwork. But his newer stuff will be on justinmaller.com/
It is called Division II. It's on the front page of facets.la
Darude Sandstiorm
I got the stream as a temporary replacement. Only thing is I have the stream 14, 4gb RAM and 32gb storage. I just wanna know, can I play sims 4 or 3?
i just got this chromebook for school, since im going to academy next year for highschool. I also just built a pc, but i also wanted the convenience of portability, for a cheap price.
Ive been using a core i3 surface pro 3 as my school "laptop" and its amazing, obviously very expensive though.
***** I'm sorry if I came off that way I just thought some people might be interested.
Great job showing it off
Chris Cho please explain to me why what I said made me look like a show off? I only mentioned it was kinda expensive because this is a video about budget laptops and I thought I would have been dumb to not mention it.
Good job showing off
Witzeh there just being CZcams idiots. They think its funny but in reality, THEY are just CZcams WHORES.. Sorry. Just had to let it out. People get a massive resource such as CZcams, and they use it to troll people. Smh.
I would save the money and buy an Asus e403sa.
i would save money and dont buy laptop that cheap
The stream's trackpad could be easily improved by installing windows precision drivers instead of the synaptic/ built in.
I'm from the future in 2018! In this year, you can get a laptop for still under the price of a base model iPad, but it has a 1080p IPS display!
I guess the HP Stream is for kids mostly, as their first PC, for studying, internet, etc. That's why Blue and Pink. A bit more cash to buy a better build quality, and it would be a great laptop for a student with too much debt to spend a lot on a laptop as well.
There's the ASUS x551 and the Inspiron 15R 3531 which both are $250 and both have full fledged Windows, 500GB HDD's and 15.6 inch screens. Why would you want to buy these when you can get a better laptop for $20 more?
Ryan M I'm not familiar with US prices. I am the kind of person who spends more until he can get even more out of that "more". In tech, that means buying the middle-end hardware, which this laptop is not. But hey! If you have a limited budget with no breathing room - why not?
My school has better laptops than these...at least they got 500gb HD and an i5 processor. No computer should be this bad not even for students. I am sure they can afford and iPad instead
carson819 why on earth would any student need an i5? That is a serious overkill. If you have that at school, I'd question to see if it has anything to do with money laundering.
I got my parents a PC with a Celeron CPU, it works great for what they do - browsing, videos, office programs, etc. It would have no problem running some developer tools as well.
A Core i5 is an overkill even for a budget gaming PC. Unless you get a top end video card, you don't need a Core i5. And Core i7s are for SLI/Crossfire builds.
Donnie My school isn't rich so its still not a full HD display or killer graphics (Intel 4000). We do a lot of editing and it will last long. we need decent Cpu to make it fast and fluid in my opinion if you are a student i would get a macbook air for $900 and it will last you at least 4-8 years
Here is my Laptop specs, what do you guys think of it? Anyone know why it isn't as powerful as I would like, I will get a PC anyway but I want to know because that won't be until a years time:
8.00 GB RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2540M CPU @ 2.60GHz
Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
If you want more information, I will find it.
Pretty good for a laptop.
SuperFIFTHGEAR I think so yes, that's why I wanted to know why it isn't as powerful as I would have thought. I can run most games that are not too demanding at 30fps if I tweak the video options a bit. It may be because I have programs like Photoshop installed.
SuperFIFTHGEAR no it isn't...
NortexG - Art It's because it has Integrated graphics, instead of a graphics card
Not bad for a laptop, 8GB of RAM is essential and that's also a pretty good processor. The HD 3000 integrated graphics aren't that great though, you could probably run most games at the lowest settings with that processor but without dedicated graphics you won't max out anything. All in a solid laptop though.
I would buy both, take the hardware out of both, and put the windows parts into the chromebook for the nicer color, trackpad, and keyboard (I'd paint caps lock over the search button) and switch the screens.
Could you review the HP Stream x360? It's basically the HP Stream 13 and HP Stream 7 mashed together. Also I saw someone run Skyrim on the HP Stream 7. It stayed around 20fps which is kinda decent since consoles are limited to 30 fps. So I was wondering if the X360 could run it. Also, am I the only one who likes heavier devices as apposed to light devices? And are 2 in 1 laptops actually good?
better question. get one of these laptops or the new apple book?
NoobaGutt apple book
New apple book, but if anyone were to choose from those three, I'd say get a $1,000 PC instead or build one!
NEVER GET APPLE ITS TRASH. If your actually going to buy a gaming laptop buy this laptop its 350$ Might be a little more then what this video is going for buts its really good its can run CSGO at med settings at 1080p at 50 FPS a second which is really good if your getting a laptop get this

I would take the Stream because it runs Windows. That’s it.
Why is it that the HP Stream link is to a much less powerful version of the one featured in the video?
Already have the stream and I love it (it runs very nice with windows 10
I have the ASUS Chromebook computer featured in this video and have owned it for the past year. It doesn't support MANY of the same programs as a windows computer, and I could not get anything done. I guess it will work if you only use the internet browser and no other programs. The viewing angle is PAINFULLY horrible if you plan on using it on a non-level surface like on your lap or on a bed. It can't function without Wifi, which is bad for traveling. and after just one year of normal use (no dropping it, taking good care of it, etc.) there was a glitch in the programming and it stopped charging the battery completely. Now since my warranty has recently passed, I have no way of returning it. Worst laptop type device that I have ever owned in my life. Currently waiting for my lovely new HP Envy to ship in the mail. I can't believe that someone endorsed such a horrible product. How much did ASUS pay this guy? Save your money and buy something that actually works.
I wouldn't even contemplate buying ANYTHING with ChromeOS
well I sorry man that u had to live one year with this guy. anyway moving the ENVY is obviously a huge step forward. so yeah enjoy it mate :)
You're damn unlucky. My Chromebook never failed me and it's from ASUS too.
Also ChromeOS is offline too, editing Google Docs offline until sync, watching a Play Movies movie synced offline, etc.
Why are they all trying so hard to look like the Macbook Air?
Ikr
Why not? The Macbook Air is incredibly beautiful.
TheSomersaultProductions Because I love Macbook's look and I don't want those cheap Laptops to look like them
Well, the Macbook is not the first laptop ever is it? I don't see the problem, wouldn't you love these laptops if you love the Air so much?
I don't like the fact that they look like the macbook either It reminds me of overpriced garbage.
Got a used Thinkpad T420 for $230 on amazon and it blows both of these out of the water in both specs and build quality so I am not worried about it having any problems down the line. Heck it handles games like The Sims 4 and Minecraft perfectly. No problems with the 4gb of ram and 500gb hdd. Heck the i5 is solid as well. Picked it up as a replacement for my tablet that wasn't working well for me in day to day tasks. So now the tablet is used as an ereader and video player if I don't feel like pulling the laptop out.
can you tell me if 4 gigabytes of RAM is enough for editing I'm not worried about it being slow I'm just wondering if it would do it at all thanks in advance
I wish ASUS would release this exact Chromebook model (okay maybe slightly improved specs) with Windows. I love the design but the only offering from ASUS at the moment is the 11 inch X205 and that's just a tad too small. Not liking the look of the HP Stream 13. So ASUS get on that thanks ;)
Alex Robble Did a little digging and that doesn't seem like an easy task. Linux maybe, but not Windows. Unless you know something I don't know or couldn't find online.
Jason Nucker I don't see how it would be any different than putting windows on any other PC. Its the same guts as any other.
KH3player > No CD Drive
> No POST or Booting Options.
> Chrome OS doesn't use .EXEs.
Yeah, TOTALLY made for Windows. Not EVERY PC that exists can run Windows, ya know~
ComputerLunarVidGamR
1. You can use a USB
2. POST is on the Mobo and i don't see why they wouldn't have one.
3. This is irrelevant since you would would not be using the Chrome OS to do this.
Please atleast know SOMETHING before you comment.
These are my dream laptops stop making it hard for me to choose
I feel like Alfalfa when he fell off the cliff
That movie was garbage
how? Get a decent one. Even a 700$ laptop can run some games pretty nicely so i would just save up for a better one. This one is shit. Trust me, i have it and i cant even play minecraft that well.
The Acer Aspire has a core i5, and a gtx 940m. The only problem is storage and battery life all at 530 dollars.
+SkullKid I have a gaming PC but I use this one to edit vids
Chromebooks are awesome, I am watching this on my Samsung Chromebook 3 with 195 tabs up and sure, it isn't running as well as it could, but it is sure running better than I would expect it to.
love the Roosterteeth and Patch podcasts XD
I found the HP 14-an013nr on amazon for 200 bucks and it is so worth the money, and this is coming from a person who has a macbook pro on the side
Elijah Amirianfar did you put an antivirus on it? because the man says in the video it doesn't get viruses I don't know if that's true?
Michelle Bear mine came with Windows Protector or something like that. So ik it's protected
My question was with having that laptop should I get an antivirus for it?
No. It's not needed because windows 10 is very safe
Also Windows Protector is an antivirus
I have a MacBook Pro but i hate like pages I miss my Microsoft word
jaAdamariE AND Office for Mac does not cut it. Like, at all. Had to run a Windows VM alongside it. It's just like Linux! (on the bright side, it does give off pretty stellar battery life, though)
Darren Ma
I am studying computer (programming with Java, c, html ect..) is what this pc can be used for this domain?
My sister got a hp stream 11 on Facebook marketplace for £80 and it runs just fine, it's full windows 10, which runs at a decent speed. I would recommend buying a stream used because you get it significantly cheaper, I have seen them ranging from £80-£100
I have a Chromebook, and it's a plastic piece of slow shit. Save your money for something worth having.
Chromebooks are rubbish, bruh. Don't buy them. I'd say the Stream is worth it in this case.
Your video is interesting Austin. I probably would have gone with the laptop.
lmao this came on with autoplay i saw the hair and i thought this was an ltt vid
