I was thinking exactly the same thing. It's very good even to shake things up on the tour. At the start of the event I was looking forth to see how Griffin would perform. Really thought he was shine on those waves. Saquarema waves favor the more progressive lines.

Carmichael was never going to beat Filipe with his style and casual approach, he has no air game for a start, you have to surf every heat different,.Filipe reads this time and time again, he moved to a different spot, caught waves, came back to the main peak, caught waves, moved again, that's what a smart competitor does, Wade just sat on the main peak enjoying the sun.
I'm not arguing - Toledo is incredible. But not all of what you say is true - Carmichael is better on the rail. You'll see the difference at Chopes and Pipe.
Checking this again 6 years later: Fil's barrel was one of the best I've ever seen

honestly the comp shudda been held at the main venue, this break had sum cool tubes but few and far inbetween for a fair match, also main looked spicy for those few heats in r4 we did run over there, consistent shreddable 6f waves over there, not too mention u took away lowers, kkooks
