- Stromer ST7 Speed Check. I tried to find a road as flat as possible. The first run had a slight downhill grade, so I turned around and returned the other way. It is pretty consistent in both directions. #stromerbike #electricbike

Thank you, I really appreciate this kind of feedback!
What is your average speed on a clear road?
I find its hard to keep the bike below 14mph and I would say average cruise is around 23mph without pushing it..I found an open stretch of highway that was not open to cars yet. Super smooth (except for the sand/gravel from construction.. take a look at it... I would say that was an easy cruise. .. but that extra 5 mph is not hard to get unless you are going. uphill. I did a hill climb video and that took some effort to maintain that speed. Given there is no throttle and it is a torque sensor you have to keep moving :).
Hi Jason!
Very cool! Can't wait to get my ST7.
Could you please tell me what camera you use and what app to overlay data onto the video? Thanx
Hi.. Thank you... I am using an iPhone 14 Pro.. and in this video I am testing out an app called "VideoCamera"
@@jasonlynch9979 Thank you for your quick reply. I've tried to find it in the App store but no luck. VideoCamera sounds very generic. Could you please provide some more info. the name of the editor, something more specific. Many thanks
Get the Twinner e-bike instead, the former owner of the company made a new brand with a smarter design bigger battery better positioned display with a motor 37 % more powerful cheaper, with rear camera and in my opinion looks better.
@@petropoliskhan Sorry the app is called Telemetry Camera apps.apple.com/us/app/telemetry-camera/id1354203253
@@jasonlynch9979 oops! Sorry! I think I hit the thumbs down icon.( wasn’t wearing my glasses) THANK YOU. Hope you’re enjoying that awesome bike. Would love to hear your comments/ thoughts about it.
Was that peddle or throttle?
I just bought a Haul ST from Specialized.
The speed seems the same as this but no doubt the ST7 is a smoother ride.
Believe that the st7 is class 3 e-bike and therefore has no throttle, just pedal assist.
Hi... That is correct... The Stromer does not have a throttle. The bike is limited to 28mph for assistance. Obviously, the bike will go faster than that if you can pedal harder beyond 28mph or downhill, for example. This is my first e-bike, so if you were measuring power/speed specs, you could find comparables on paper. However, I think where this bike excels is "everything else" that this bike comes equipped with.
@@jasonlynch9979
For sure.
I was looking at these before I bought the Haul.
I can only get the Haul up to 31 going downhill because there should be at least another gear.
But that throttle is huge when trying to cross the street to beat the oncoming car.
It gives you full power.
Or when you don’t feel like pedaling.
I’m going back to Specialized because I just found out that their other models have automatic gear shifting and an alarm that triggers your phone.
My dream bike the ST7. I only have the ST1X 😅
How did you get the speedo onto the video screen? :)
Hi... Thanks for the comment... I shot the video with an iPhone 14 Pro. I want to test out a few apps, but this one was using an app called "VideoCamera"
My mistake on the name of the app... here it is.. apps.apple.com/us/app/telemetry-camera/id1354203253
28mph with using pedal or only motor?
You need to pedal this bike.. there is not a throttle only option.
@@jasonlynch9979 I just left another comment about your bike... if you don't delete it. No throttle is a limitation for an ebike.
@@brianbassett4379 Hi Brian.. for me I needed to get out and move my ass.. 🤣 down 20lbs since riding this thing. Better than any gym membership. Fits my needs perfectly, and I can understand how that can seem like a limitation for others. To each their own.
@@brianbassett4379 in Europe it is 15.5 mph pedelec limit, 250w? max, might be 200, and throttle is allowed up to 3kph (push assist)
Nice bike. Just bought it here in Switzerland and have done 2000kms. It's my 7th Stromer. Ok 1) the brakes don't squeal (a first in 7 years of Stromers from ST1 up to ST5). 2) Gear changing is a doddle now it's a belt. 3) Autonomy is 78kms in Sports mode after an all-night charge. BUT and here is the big "but":- It's a huge design fault when you get only 12kms in Sports Mode before the motor heats up and turns the mode off leaving gears 1 to 3 only. (Sports Mode is a huge difference to Gear 3 and is much more sensitive and rapid). Then you are left with 66kms with NO Sports Mode available because the motor remains too hot for the WHOLE of the rest of your trip. Yes you can reset it by turning the bike off and leaving it for 30 minutes to cool down (it won't). But that takes 30 minutes minimum (stuck on a bench in the country) and then you get (maybe) another 6kms before it does it again. This is in ambient temperatures from 15C (14kms) to 39C (12kms). And no, i am not driving it hard. It's impossible to get past 48kph anyway as it is maxxed by the software. It's just a normal 45kph max. If you spend 15k on a bike like this and cannot realise its full potential for 85% of your trip then that's disappointing. This is a top of the range bike price-wise. How would you like your 1479bhp Bugatti Chiron to have ONLY 221 bhp (VW GTI) for 85% of your daily driving? Thought not.......... So, Stromer get your act together and stop minimising our pleasure - redesign the phuccin motor please. I have spent enough on your bikes, so you can do that JUST for me and then the whole World will be happy.... Cheers.
Thank you for your comment. I have not experienced any overheating issues in sports mode, but then again my average ride length is only about 30min. However I live in the desert so I have ridden the bike in 95F - 110F without any overheating issues. I made a comment on FB yesterday where it seems like the bike is happy around 25 up to 28mph however if you try to push it over 30-31mph the bike actively resists you. It is not that the motor is shutting off but it feels like it is fighting you. This changes when you are coasting downhill for example where momentum and gravity take over and the bike will go as fast as you want it to go until you need to use re-gen or break. I do have some other issues that I am trying to troubleshoot but nothing to do with the motor overheating. Thanks again for watching. Enjoy!
@@jasonlynch9979 I am VERY surprised yours does not overheat. Mine does it after 12kms (20 mins on average). My ST5 did the same after 40 mins. As to the motor maxxing out at 32mph that's because being a Swiss Bike it is designed to obey the law here and must not be able to ride (on the flat) at more than 45kph (48kph absolute max). So what you have is normal and the firmware is braking you. Bike shops here secretly know how to override this but in the event of an accident or being "radared" and therefore fined.....leading to an investigation as to how you were able to ride at 70kph (i could very easily see that happening with this bike and Torque) the thing will backfire on the bike shop and Stromer will withdraw their contract = no more 50% profit on markup!.... not worth the hassle. So we make do with 48max and that's your lot.
@@1thaleb He rides on level roads almost everywhere. You are probably riding further and climbing far more, which is a Hub motors Achilles heel.
This is a very expensive e-bike ^^
It is so much fun.
Cars are expensive too
