I don't know if machiavelli meant it that way but it definitely can be, regardless of his intentions
And if people did see it (machiavellianism) in the politicians, the world would be a much better place by now

48 laws of power is often misinterpreted as a guide to " being a self serving manipulator" as well. But that author intended to enlighten with it as well.

@allenandrews2380 you haven't read the book if you don't think it wasn't meant as a guide, read just the first law, notice how it's not enlightening the reader to be weary of people who never outshine their master and how it's in an instructional perspective (if you're referring to Robert's interview, you'll have to read his other book "the laws of human nature" to understand why he said that in that clip)

    This should have been fantastic.
Little concerned it opened with a leading comment about the letter being satire. That's a very new interpretation that very few, if any, serious academics give any credence.
In fact, in his book The History of Florence, Machiavelli writes enough about Cesare Borgia to show consistency in his observations in The Prince. Not too mention his personal correspondences. When viewed in context these debunk the sataire hypothesis quite soundly.
On another point. The speed at which this is read shows almost distain for the work. If you just wanted to get through it, without applying emphasis on the values, then why do the modern interpretation in the first place?
It comes off as a high school project no one wanted to do and someone just wants a C on to get it over with.
It's a shame really, this could have been truly wonderful.
