    Dreamcast is the clear winner overall, especially in terms of sharpness and framerate, but the PSP version still deserves major kudos as an excellent port to a system with lesser horsepower. It still looks and plays like a home-console Crazy Taxi, and that's an accomplishment given the era and the tech.

    • @Mr.Atari2600
      @Mr.Atari2600 Před 3 lety +2

      @@more7642 It also depends what type of hardware it is too. The Dreamcast hardware was made to make 3D graphics better & easier + fixing the major problems from Sega's previous console The Sega Saturn which was tedious to work with.
      Despite the Dreamcast having MUCH inferior hardware than the PS2/PSP. The games however do look just as good if not better than their PS2 counterparts & I believe that's because the PS2's hardware was also hard to work with. Not as bad as the PS3, Saturn, or Jaguar's. but devs had complained & I think Sony did it on purpose to give developers a challenge. idk if PSP's hardware was any better but it was a beefy portable system for it's time.

    • @granvillimus
      @granvillimus Před 3 lety +4

      @@Mr.Atari2600 It should be noted that the high polygon counts Sony claimed for PS2 and PSP are an on paper number that you'd almost never come close to in a real game. It's only possible if you disable all textures, shading, lighting and any other effects. Jak 2 is a more realistic benchmark, some of the highest poly counts on the system but still only in the range of 8-10 million per second max.
      By comparison, Nintendo claimed the much more powerful Gamecube could do up to 12 million polys per second. This was a more realistic claim as it included textures and a full range of the GPU's effects applied. Factor 5 even got it to 20 mil with their Rogue Squadron games by offloading some of the rendering onto the Gekko CPU (which incidentally was only a 32bit cpu but beat the pants off of DC and PS2, even giving Xbox's a run for its money).
      PSP was stronger than DC but weaker than PS2, certainly a very powerful handheld for its time. I've never heard anyone say it was difficult to develop for. There's even a pretty large homebrew scene for it. Though like most systems, its best looking games weren't launch titles or ports. The God of War games are a good example of the visual PSP could push.

    Dreamcast com texturas mais nitidas, no PSP é mais embaçado. Mas ambas muito fluidas e suaves. No console da Sega tem a trilha sonora do Offspring, ausente no PSP por direitos autorais, mas é possivel contornar isso simplesmente instalando as mesmas musicas no jogo do PSP. Basicamente a versão do PSP pode ter a trilha sonora que você quiser.

  • @Animated__Freak
    @Animated__Freak Před 5 měsíci +1

    Both versions are very close. The Dreamcast version has an obvious advantage in texture resolution and in my eyes it runs better, but it's close. The PSP does have some modernized addition in two aspects. One being the draw distance is more of a fade in while on the Dreamcast it's a normal pop in. Another is that the car texture on PSP uses some tricks with the lightning to give it a more reflective look to emphasize the glossy look of the car surface. I also noticed that at 4:12 it seems like the physics are different between the two version in the way the boxes interact with the car.
    Despite this I think the Dreamcast version still comes out on top because the PSP version seems to be stretched which ruins a lot of the original visuals. I would hope there's a 4:3 setting in the options.

    Someone in here was commenting on framerates, I'm not sure about those. But what I do know with just my eyes is that the psp port isn't in true wide-screen, its being stretched. Which gives its characters a squashed fatter look and gives the whole environment a distorted luke and slightly muted colors less crisp look. If you play the ps 3 version(available in ps store for 9.99) it looks really good. I'd imagine its in the cmxbox marketplace too but idk. I have played it recently in playstation now, through streaming ps3 and it looks and plays great and is I believe a true wide-screen conversion. Also playsgation now streams much better now and they have a download list, but I might still buy this for ps3 in the store if its even still in there. Also there is another taxi game of a different name that just came out in Feb of this year 2021, for 29.99 so I might pick that up if it ever goes kn sale for say 10 bucks. Anyways, love the dreamcast and still hope they make a dreamcast 2 of some kind or a least a saturn mini and a dreamcast mini. And I'm excited about the possible PS5G.

      @@thekenixkil Números não significa nada, do que adianta o Hardware ter mais MHZ e Mais ram, q o processador em temos de arquitetura é inferior. Exemplo pra vc meu amigo, a ram do PSP tem bastante ram, porem a memoria de video só tem 2MB pra descomprimir textura, quanto o Dreamcast tem 8MB. A vantagem do PSP em cima do Dreamcast só é nos emuladores, que a ram principal do PSP é maior, isso facilita os emuladores que rodam praticamente via Soft. Isso que eu falei vale também para o Xbox 360 vs PS3.

    They did a good port of the game, runs just as smooth and as the as the DC version. If you put the PSP in 4:3 screen ratio then it might look just like the DC version, but as they are, DC version all the way.

      Yeah, aspect ratio aside, I love the PSP version - with a modified soundtrack hack - but the Dreamcast version's a lot smoother.
      Anyone who doubts it should slow the video to quarter speed. The Dreamcast version looks like a slow motion Matrix scene. The PSP version becomes a slide show.
      Edit: Still better than the GBA version.

      I think there might be something wrong with your display dude, the Dreamcast version is way smoother than the PSP version. Also way less pixelated.

      It holds the frame rate, the graphics aren't anywhere close, but I guess you didn't read it the way I wrote it. Smooth doesn't mean graphics, smooth means frame rate, guess I gotta spell it out

      Don't be a smartass, there was no miscommunication here you just seem to have a hard time accepting reality. The PSP version is nowhere near as smooth as the DC version. They're so far apart it feels almost like the DC version is running at 60 FPS whereas the PSP version is running at 30 FPS, are you watching the video in 480p or something?

    I have to say the Dreamcast still won but the PSP did put up a quite a fight in my opinion just that the framerate to the PSP is awful.

    Dreamcast version is way better: textures more detailed, colours, fxaa, resolution vga native, light and 60fps.
