    Very good comparison using the wrap against the real CF. The 5D, 6D, 327D (whatever) was definitely (IMHO) the best match. The first two were somewhat close and the 3rd one missed by a mile.

    I'm not sure if my carbon fiber on the top of my mirrors is a wrap or real(I'll have to check it out when it's daylight) If it's a wrap is it possible to sand/polish a scratch out of it? There's a scratch on it and I want to fix it myself but I don't want to make it worse than it already is.

    I've seen real carbon fiber pieces in person and they have some sort of "brownish" color on them at a certain angle of the Sun. I believe SOTT knocked it out of the park alongside with VVIVID gloss carbon fiber. Then again some carbon parts are made differently like the pattern/finish. Overall I'm impressed with the eBay 5D looking one matching your current carbon fiber piece 👌🏻

    Armor-All has a ‘super shine’ version of their vinyl protectant pump spray that includes their standard level of UV protection. I just wonder if that would enhance the gloss even further, plus UV damage may have been responsible for the delamination problems you mentioned, and if so this should help that too. It would probably need to be renewed occasionally, but it’s relatively cheap, good for all kinds of other stuff, and easy to apply, so maintaining it shouldn’t be tough. A video of such a test would be very interesting I think.

    A have a question if you don’t mind.. I ordered some eBay wrap, I’m looking to do a very small piece. I’m going to wrap the bezel of my lower grill in a 3D carbon, my question is do you think 2k clear would have any bad effect on the wrap? Dissolve the adhesive maybe? I wanted to add multiple coats, then wet sand and polish to get it as close as possible to a real CF piece. Thanks for any advice.

    • @PrecisionWrapsGraphics
      @PrecisionWrapsGraphics  Před 4 lety +1

      So there are a couple different things that could possibly go wrong one is that you would have to sand/Scotch-Brite you would have to scuff the vinyl for the 2K clear to even stick also the vinyl will become soft in heat and the clearcoat will harden one is made to flex one is constantly hardened with the different expansion rate you may have a problem with delamination or clearcoat failure over time.

    • @aaronbrown4366
      @aaronbrown4366 Před 4 lety

      Precision Wraps & Graphics Thank you so much for the answer. Yea, I ordered a “matte” carbon with the hope it’ll have something for the clear to stick to as it seems more textured vs the gloss carbon wraps. Surprisingly, I can’t find a lot of people online trying this, there’s like one here and CZcams and one on an old website where they cleared some wood grain wrap that turned out great. Really appreciate you taking your time to answer this.

    • @awilliam2002playsmc
      @awilliam2002playsmc Před 2 lety +1

      I just tried this with 4d which is semi glossy on its own and it does add first of all a much deeper black effect when viewed from the sides, like real carbon and second gives a real feel of it looking like it has depth when viewed closely, again like real carbon. The gloss was just slightly less than plain, wasnt trying super hard or anything, but I think it's mainly because it made the black deeper which looks even better in the sun and point on carbon fiber from an angle. I did 2 coats of 2k just to try, a wet sand to 2500 and a quick coconut oil polish. If I were you put a very heavy coat and make sure to sand down the texture in the coat from the wrap after getting the first few coats so that the clearcoat doesnt keep the texture as you add more. Another idea is just to paint on epoxy like you would real carbon, being very careful of course but at that point you could just do a carbon skin if you dont mind something permanent. Hope this helps!

      Sorry for the delay so this is the seller we purchased it from, and yes any solvent or petroleum distillates can damage over time if they are not removed quickly. If you do get gas on it clean it off immediately and it should be fine. We recommend having the wrap ceramic coated, that will help with any accidents.

      All the shops on amazon and ebay are buying it from a few chinese dealers on aliexpress who all probably buy from the same factory. thats why theres no branding and the grid pattern on the back of all of them is identical. Hes right in the video. The vinyl is very nice to work with. It feels thick but a little heat gets it super conformable without glue lines. I was really impressed with this film.
