- Here's a short clip from BBC programme 'Wild China', Beyond the Great Wall.
It shows Roborovski hamsters, the smallest and fastest kind of hamsters, in their natural environment. Fascinating to think, appearance wise Robo's haven't changed a bit since they were discovered and bred in captivity over 100 years ago.
Video copyright BBC.
Visit roborovskihamsters.webs.com/ for more information about Roborovski hamsters.
"Anyone who owns a pet hamster knows that they're very energetic."
My hamster preparing for the next zombie apocalypse by running 2000 miles per hour.
They made a whole TV series about Meerkats. Why can't I have more than 2 minutes about Roborvskis?! Oh well- at least it's BBC quality.
Yeah
its so hard to find videos about wild hamsters : (
this makes me want to make my robos cage more natural looking like their wild cousins home. this shows that hamsters need space. they travel so much in the wild that a tiny cage is horrible
TearLilyd totally! Both of my winter white dwarf hamsters live in 110 quart bins which is really only 30 square inches over the minimum but it's still way better than a critter trail!
I let mine everywhere. It doesn't live in my house anymore. It's probably cheating on me with the neighbor.
PetCo usually has sales twice a year for their aquariums. I got a 75 gallon one for my hamster. I also put in dig boxes with dirt for her but I know what you mean I always wanna give more because I want her to be as happy as a little hamster can be. 🐹
Fr
Look at them... As lovable as they are in our homes.
Vercingétorix no hamsters should not be deserve in homes
Yes, the definitely do.
universe of volt Jonathan what?
why do I read this in a creepy voice
Nahuel Martinez pet shop hamsters can’t live in the wild they die
I made my 7 Robos watch this because they are spoiled and think they are entitled because they do not have to hunt for food since they have a slave to feed them and bring them delicacies to snack on!!! They also like to run past my hand and bite it for fun!!!
Aww lol just done this well tried to they live like queens compared to these 😭
Angel Lopez lol of course they died. My hamster only had a year of lifespan ( damn )
Robos can live like from 2-4 years so they could still be alive.
Kelly Jordan How did they react to this?😂
My robo has been alive over 2 years and now has babies .
0:23 they really said "goodmorning my bro"
hamsters are such smart little buggers
I remember when a friend gave me two robos. said they were both female... eventually I had over 30 of the fuckers. both female, yeah right😂
Lol omg I can't breathe haha
HAHAHAHAHA man .. this just made my day :))
Tank Overlord but female is girl
Tank Overlord oh wait I get it now
Tank Overlord lmao
cool who knew BBC cared about hamsters?
soooo cute
When they fight it sounds like squeaky toys gone wild!!!
What kind of hamsters do you have??? Mine are Robos like in the video
+princess precious they sound like Syrian hamsters which are supposed to be kept alone even if they are mom and daughter or siblings
@The Spaghetti Eater some hamsters can't stand each other-especially Syrian hamsters 🐹. They will fight each other to the death ☠️. That kind needs live by itself and is likely to draw blood if you have 2 of them together.
With the the others including robos there are factors that will determine whether or not they can live together such as cage size and if they knew each other as pups. When housing multiple hamsters 🐹 you should have an extra cage in case they fight and you have to separate them.
now I know hamsters don't come from PetSmart.....you learn something new everyday 👏
they come from rodent mills.
Kevv where did u think they got them from then...
Ava Nguyen what
Ava Nguyen are you ok?
@@khricket that's where PetSmart buys their small animals. They are one of the worst places to get a pet. Adopting a pet is the best way to get a pet since so many need homes. Another good place to find a pet is a reputable breeder.
They handle the 🍼 babies and their mothers daily, give up well deserved sleep 💤 to raise rejected and orphaned 🍼 babies and take the animals to the vet.
They're not in it for the money 💰 like the 🐕 pet mills and they treat the animals a lot better.
Wikipedia notes about the BBC filming for this episode, "Bamboo rats and Roborovski hamsters were filmed in subterranean burrows with glass side panels in a studio set."
Dag... I guess that's why it's kind of discontiguous with the initial landscape. They continue the sound of the wind in the background to kind of help the transition- but I think most of the dwarf hamsters were just filmed in a studio.
I was wondering how they recorded this
As big as a ping pong ball!!!!???? That just made me squeal!!!
ikr!
They’re so adorable!! I’ve had a few they’re tiny ☺️🐹
They are very cute and tiny
Thanks so much for posting this robovskihamsters - wonderful to learn about them in their natural environment and that they are little marathon runners! I love robovskis!!!
I have one of these as a pet. It has a giant aquarium cage without any plastic. Only natural materials. I've tried my hardest to te recreate its natiral habitat seen in this video.
How big is it?
These things are cute as fuck in the wild
Yes they are the same cute little robos, but in their natural environment
This is by far one of the coolest things on hams i have seen, thank you so much for sharing it with us!!!
Now and then I come back to this video reminding me of my 4 robo hamsters years ago
0:29 'The size of a ping pong ball' somehow that nonchalent tone tickled me so much
My 5 Robos have a 55 gallon tank for them to live in. they have a rock dish for water, and their food is hidden inareas where they have to sniff it out so they can keep their senses strong. They all made a burrow in the sand kind of bedding, I forgot what it's called but my neighbor gives it to me, I forgot the name though. One time I was cleaning their cage and found a huge food chamber, full of food from just a week ago. P.S. My robo's are tame and have a wheel, even in their natural setup.
Interesting. In the wild, roborovski's live in family groups, yet as pets they are always reccomanded to live alone cause they attack each other. And they do. Ive had robirovskis. They do not go well with each other. They are best to keep solitaire
So cute I love hamsters
Thanks so much for the video awesome job
Robos are so cute whether as pets or in the wild
I send respect to you bc i have a robo hamster named peter
@@galinagazaryan4527me too😂😂❤️

Thanks so much! I've been dying to see a video of Robos in their natural environment.
These tiny hamsters are amazingly cute and intelligent🥰
1:07 my hamster leaves her little house, eats some food, runs somes minutes in the wheel, drinks some water and goes back to sleep xD
these guys are soooooo cute (>_
oh gosh i love this video so much i loveeee robo hamsters they r so cute
They missed a perfect opportunity to say, "Winter is coming."
That's cute the make a napping pile for warmth
So thats why my hamster jams as much food as he can in his mouth and carries it all to his running wheel.
Wow! i had never seen wild hamsters do what before! thanks for uploading this video in youtube! :)
All I can think is how cute it is
This is great and i love how big their natural groups are!
Why are they solitary in captivity then?
@@4Corry they still can live in pair or small group though. Syrian hamster r the solitary one cuz they r extremely territorial.
@@4Corry2 years late, but they live in companionship in the wild for survival but in captivity since they do not need to group up to increase survival against predation, they have little tolerance for other hamsters and thrive by themselves bcs they don't need to reproduce for the population either
They are super cute! I have one named Lightning!
***** Aww cute!
Now I want to watch the rest of this!
Vraiment top rare Doc d'une espèce méconnue, merci 🙏😌
OMG I have one named Nutmeg and seeing her natural habitat is cool!
My little Eva Rose looks like this! Yes we need more documentaries!
Hehe my robo has been with me for a little over 3 weeks now and hes already learned when there is new fresh food in his bowl after hearing the bag he prefers to store new food then eat it in the morning you'll just hear him eating in his burrow lol
Omg soo cool I couldn't imagine my robos out in the wild xx
Cool video thank you for sharing, absolutely amazing; 5 stars
this made me make my hamster a bigger cage 😭.
I wonder if they know how adorable they are..
I have so much more respect for hamsters now, after watching this video.
“A hamster in the wild in one night can run a human marathon” crittertrial: exists make sure to have very large home for baby 450 sq in
Yes! Make sure you have an appropriate sized wheel too. I have a 9 inch (~ 23 cm) for my dwarf and Syrians need 12 inches (~31 cm). Those won’t fit in those tiny critter trails!
Every animal starts out in the wild, even the cute ones
i hope there are more documentaries on hamster but id just found this one short video
So cute! I love hamsters, I have two Roborovski’s and two Syrians
SO CUTEEEE 😍😍😍
They are not just the fastest and the smallest hamsters. They are also teh cutest and and the most long-lifed hamsters.
No,Syrian hamsters live long, also they are more resistant
I just got my daughter a robo dwarf hamster ,so cute and speedy .She already in love .

Awwww!! I have a Robo!! Shes so cute!
My brother gave me his Robo hamsters and they are the coolest guys ever.
I was praying he would finish saying, "Hamsters know that winter is coming."
So cute
I have 9 dwarf hamsters and one Syrian hamster so I think I know how energetic they are
This gives me hope because I lost a hamster in my moms van on the way home (it was an hour and a half drive) and we never found it. 😭 We set traps for it to fall into and stuff but he just isn't in there. Hopefully he is doing fine outside. Idk, I'm traumatized. I've been crying every night for 4 days now. We still look everyday and set out food for him. 😞
And now 3 years passed, there is only 2 possibility, then
I have 3 robos, oofty, goofty and woofty. They are adorable
nice video ,
Oh my gosh!!!! So cool =D
More documentaries pls
*superb*
Awww I love hamsters 🥰🥰🥰❤️🐹
For some reason, I was so scared to watch this haha I kept thinking a big ass spider would come out of nowhere
Wow how did you get this video? This is the first in the wild video I have seen of the robos!
Honestly, this is probably the 3rd to 4th time I’ve watched this video
Been trying to find footage of wild robos for ages, that foodstore is amazing!
awww♡super cute ♡♡♡♡♡
What my Harryette’s ( my femal Robo Hamster) ancestors were doing generations ago.
I have two one named Dan and one named Stan ^^ they're both so cute and have so different of personalities Dan is the very excited friendly one and he's the alpha apparently, and Stan is very shy and a scaredy cat he's very unsure not quite sure why though but I had to separate them because they were fighting
I love my hamster but I feel aweful now keeping him in a small cage. But I dont have a big bin that I let him in for a few hrs at a time..with food etc/water. I am planning on getting a much bigger set up when I get home from house sitting next week.
Same here that's the reason I've always let them roaming free in my house....
i had 7... at first i got 3 and then went to get another one.. then a few years after that, got other 3 little ones from my friend. it was really sad when each of them died.. :( these hamsters don't have that long lifespan.. many hamsters = many tears!
Cool!
im sad because my roborovski hamster died and i keep getting recommended these videos and it makes me so sad

Mine does that with Her food, and has many burrows throughout Her deep bedding in Her bin cage.
I remembered mine carry so much in it's cheek that the food kept falling off while they are escaping leaving a trail xD
Wow, I never thought "wild" robos are just as adorable :)
