  • A sailing that has been on my cards for a while has been the twice weekly summer sailing from Kennacraig to Oban via Port Askaig on Islay and Colonsay, so eventually I decided now was the time for it! Having spent the night at Tarbert I made my way down to Kennacraig in time for the 09:45 sailing, having arrived at Kennacraig it wasn't long before the MV Isle of Arran was arriving in from Islay. The Isle of Arran, who has been covering the Islay service in place of the Hebridean Isles who has been suffering with long term technical issues shortly arrived up West Loch Tarbert, however due to strong winds the Isle of Arran took a wide approach as she came alongside, however it was quickly realised that the winds were too strong and that a stern in approach would be better as a result the Isle of Arran berthed however with the vehicles facing the wrong way many had to reverse off and the vehicles boarding also had to reverse on, as a result we departed slightly behind schedule for the sailing to Port Askaig. On the way across we passed the Island of Gigha as well as the other Islay vessel, MV Finlaggan. Having arrived at Port Askaig we turned the traffic around before heading for Colonsay and after a stop-over there it was to Oban via the Slate Islands, arriving into Oban via the Sound of Kerrera where we arrived into Oban, where I left the ship, giving me enough time to run up the hill to watch the Isle of Arran's departure back to Kennacraig, with a busy Oban bay with MV Isle of Mull, MV Loch Striven and MV Loch Frisa all featuring.
    Hope you enjoyed the video!

Thank you glad you enjoyed it! It’s a great sailing especially if you get the weather, we left Kennacraig at 0945 and got into Oban around 4pm, so roughly 6 hours, but the time does fly by with amazing scenery!

Also good to see the "Auld trooper,, also entitled to the epithet of MacBraynes Shifting Spanner, as applied to LochNevis 1 due to her ,go anywhere do anything approach.

I would not fancy reversing on or off, it is bad enough driving straight on, especially when the deck crew waive you On so close that you can not get a far packet between cars. Thanks for sharing.
