    my tips and tldr of the video: yes you should switch. you'll figure it out eventually, choose something popular (like linux mint), dont be affraid to get support, and mix it up a bit if you want

      Hands down the best switch to linux advice I have seen. For new linux users, don't worry, you will figure it out as your journey unfolds

    Should you switch? I would put it as migrate really. But YES! Get away from the Microsoft merry-go-round. As for games that don't work - the game developers loss, not mine.

      Most games work on Steam thanks to proton experiment and Steam Deck existing hopefully Valve releases SteamOS with an OFFICIAL install option.

    Minecraft has a Linux option and I am exploring how to make more ROM hacks work with Linux if you hate Windows but prefer Windows then stay on Windows 10 everything will still work and no Windows Recall just use a security software to remain protected.

    I installed Linux Mint on my new laptop. I finally walked the walk and I am happy with the results. You can make everything essential work without using any command line.Switching is not that hard if you are open for learning new stuff. Once you get everything working, you can delve deeper into advanced stuff. Every day I use this computer, I am learning new stuff. It's microsoft's fault that I switched to linux. They abandoned everything that made windows great. They made it too phone like and removed good features.

    I have the feeling a lot of people who've made the switch have rather common use-cases that have had all/most of the bugs worked out and/or they just have had a truly terrible experience on windows or just really hate it so any hurdles they hit on getting linux to do what they want are considered minor. Or they're just really really into privacy/security/customizing the look of the GUI.
    I've tried linux multiple times, and while I could use it for basic stuff or for niche uses which it's particularly good for, I can't see myself using it as a daily driver anytime soon as it just can't easily do some of the stuff I want to do, maybe with enough work I could /kind of/ get the functionality I want, but we're talking months/years of work to fully take the place of my windows setup. And I've lost track of how many dozens/hundreds of errors that have popped up while trying. Mostly due to permissions but occasionally other problems. Whether this is just me having no idea the proper way of doing things, or just wanting to do strange things apparently. But I honestly don't remember windows ever giving me this many hassles, or maybe it was just so long ago when I was brand new to windows that I don't remember, and I long since learned how to figure out and fix such issues. I do remember it just being more intuitive though, and there's almost by definition a trade-off between security and convenience. Just look at the security cases at stores now, or trying to get through security at the airport.

      interesting because I easily settled in within few mouths, last October. The issue I had was because I wasn't using an easy distro and no also didn't have DE.
      Mind me asking, what you do you the computer for? most can games and software can beran in wine, but few games with their anticheat says no and very software like aboble has been rumoured to intentionally not work.
      what distros you tried? Mint is very plug and play, haven't used it myself l, but its like a cult following to say "use mint as a beginner distro".

    3:00 For Microsoft Office , Libre Office exists and basically it's a Office suite that has basically the same features as Microsoft Office without the Telemetry.

    Fedora has been trying to add telemetry for a while (and getting a lot of pushback) so it's not all sunshine and roses on that front. Nice thing is since most distros are free or have a free version it only costs your time to try it. If it works for your needs great, if not move on.

    • @Siltprogramation
      @Siltprogramation Před měsícem

      Not to defend them, but at least it seems to be opt-in and you can see what is collecting, so it is not the same as Windows and MacOS.

    • @nadtz
      @nadtz Před měsícem +1

      @@Siltprogramation They only made the opt in change after a ton of pushback and there are a lot of Linux users who don't want any kind of telemetry period.

    • @Siltprogramation
      @Siltprogramation Před měsícem

      @@nadtz Yes, but they changed it and you don't have to have it. Which is why is not the same as Windows and MacOS. Also, the use of telemetry to give feedback to FOSS projects is not new and it helps to improve said software.

    • @nadtz
      @nadtz Před měsícem +1

      @@Siltprogramation None of that gets around the fact that they want to add telemetry. I know there are some other projects that use it, again not the point. If Fedora adds telemetry the general statement that Linux doesn't have it is no longer true.

    • @Siltprogramation
      @Siltprogramation Před měsícem

      @@nadtz Well, ZorinOS already has telemetry, so if that is your point, then it has already happened XD.

    Only people shouldn't, are people who are dependent on software or games that can only be used anything other than window.
    Or you need to use apple software.

    I wanted to switch to linux but some of the game developers refuse to ask anti cheat company to enable it on linux like rainbow six which I play the most. Yes there is cloud gaming but it's latency or ping is just so horrible in my country no matter how i upgrade my internet speed since their servers are too far from my country.

      This used to be true but now a days Linux can be as good as or sometimes better depending on your hardware and what distro you use. Your hardware will matter a *lot*, the better supported it is the better the power management.

      Modern distro + tlp (even with a default settings) - and you’ll get the same or even a little bit better battery time.
