I was actually able to analyze the problem as Dr. Cywes read the numbers. His video lectures are better than medical school classes. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned from him and others on the Internet. All this information is free, yet my cardiologist is clueless about bloodwork and the cause of metabolic diseases.

I needed to see a cardiologist after I had a CAC (I had a score of 6, but they saw a slight high-end-of normal aortic aneurism), and we got to talking and I showed him my NMR LDL large and small particle result print-out...he had never seen one. Nice guy, but behind the curve.

Sure you can learn a few things, especially what to be looking for, but be always cautious about being an avid follower of one Dr or another. You have to walk in between the threads to figure out what works for you.

It does not necessarily show in his looks, TBH. He looks good and has a nice physique, but it shows signs of metabolic disrepair. His skin tone is darker as well (factoring in the tanning element). Darker skin is an indicator of adrenal insufficiency.
It also bears mentioning that one's mood biochemistry impacts one's metabolic circumstances.

Carnivore for 31 months and am at an ideal weight 189 at 6' 1' age 71. Recently started eating an avocado a day and some green beans and asparagus. Also have some berries with full fat yogurt. I was down to 178 lbs and low body fat, and didn't feel good and was getting some anxiety. I started increasing my food intake and now feel much better. As long as you stay away from the junk, grains , and processed sugar snacks, and seed oils, everything will be fine.

This was an eye-opener for me. I am type 2 diabetic, and no matter how low in carbs I went, even carnivore, I would still register high blood sugar. Upping my carbs just a wee bit, triggered my insulin and my blood sugar went down. I am realizing that keto works better for me rather than carnivore.

I don't understand your comment. Keto is high fat, no carbs. Carnivore is all meat, and can be keto or more protein based, depending on how much fat you eat. Too high in protein will raise blood sugar through gluconeogenesis. This will happen if you eat meat that's too lean or eat too much meat in one sitting. NOTHING to do with carbs. I like Dr Cywes, but he's making many assumptions in this video and conflating correlation with causation.

This message needs to be heard across the globe !!!! Context matters. Person by person, case by case. No one "f"ING size fits all must be heard. Athletes, weekend warriors, couch potatoes, all the way to the extreme obese should not have the same diet. Then age and race play a role as well as genetic factors.

Not true. The human species does have a diet most appropriate for it. Only specific conditions can exclude certain foods for certain people, but other than that, my statement holds.
You do realize that DNA between people is more than 99% similar, right? That means that the enzymes and thus metabolism is more than 99% similar as well

    • @georgeborb3245
      @georgeborb3245 Před 11 měsíci +26

Your statement doesn't include many thousands years of different adaptions on climate and food sources. We are one species but not like a cow or a chimpanzee wich are highly specialized animals. We are opportunists and we try to survive everywhere from the equator to the north pole .

I’m sure there is the one called species specific diet. It’s pretty much mostly a carnivore with some occasional carb bombs like our ancestors did when they found honeybee nests and berry bushes seasonally. The 100% pure animal diet which shouldn’t be meant for long term, is just there to help you get back to where we belong quickly after decades of carb poisoning.

BS. Here is the solution - pay cash on retainer. Lawyers do this everyday. My patients hold me and my time on retainer. Cost is per minute for 1 minute to an entire week if the choose and their account has funds. Simple. Stop using insurance. Get the insurance company out of your private life. Get the government out of your life. Pay cash and you hold your own medical records. Hollywood stars and pro athletes have been doing this for years. Many businesses executive same. Also keeps team owners and employers out of your personal life.

@@dkcN0va2109 sorry. Just really frustrated and upset how the system works in major countries and how closed minded the doctors and patients. Here in Latin America, I get cash and the patients (who are the boss /customers). Holds their own records. YES, that means they get to read my notes, which is good, full disclosure, the way it should be. I don't own a file cabinet, waste time filling out forms or filling medical claims or waste money on secretaries and medical billing services. All just fluff and BS to the system. If a patient want to pay for one minute or entire day, not a problem. All prepaid, planned and scheduled. Every patient (again the boss) gets the time they want. Home visits (to see if they are honest), plane flights, whatever it takes, they are paying. No insurance company, no employer or for my athletes, no team manager / coach watching. America actors have been doing this for years. Go on "vacation" 😉 to a remote part of the world, fly to a different city for a small procedure, fly back to the island/ resort to complete the vacation but when they return, they are "changed" without paparazzi or public in their private lives. The public goes on thinking the female lost the weight with Jenny Craig or the male got jacked drinking protein shakes jejeje jejeje jejeje

Based on previous bloodwork (which was very similar to what Doc presented here for his patient's first round), and my blood glucose trending these past weeks, I am definitely insulin-suppressed. My plan is to increase my meals back to 2 per day, but have 2 glasses of milk instead of just 1. So 1 glass of milk in the morning, and another in the evening.
I am hoping to also see better muscle growth because my current OMAD diet means the majority of my protein consumption is going over to fuel (glucose) production, rather than muscle protein synthesis.

It looks like you've provided some cholesterol and other health-related data before and after following a ketogenic (keto) diet for 7 months. Here's an analysis:
      Before Keto:
      Total Cholesterol (TC): 160
      LDL Cholesterol (LDL): 104
      LDL + VDL: Not provided
      HDL Cholesterol (HDL): 40
      Triglycerides (TG): 225
      A1C: 5.7
      Weight: 210 lbs
      After 7 Months on Keto:
      Total Cholesterol (TC): 491
      LDL Cholesterol (LDL): 350
      LDL + VDL: 416
      HDL Cholesterol (HDL): 75
      Triglycerides (TG): 49
      A1C: 5.3
      Weight: 170 lbs
      Analysis:
Cholesterol Levels: Your total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels have increased significantly. While HDL cholesterol has also increased, it seems that the increase in LDL cholesterol has had a more significant impact on total cholesterol.
LDL + VDL: The combined value of LDL and very low-density lipoprotein (VDL) is elevated (416), suggesting an increase in the atherogenic lipoproteins.
HDL Cholesterol: Your HDL cholesterol has increased, which is generally considered positive for heart health. Higher levels of HDL are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.
Triglycerides: There has been a substantial reduction in triglyceride levels, which is a positive change. Lower triglyceride levels are generally associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.
A1C: Your A1C has improved from 5.7 to 5.3, indicating better blood sugar control. This is a positive change and may reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications.
Weight Loss: Losing 40 lbs is a significant achievement and can have positive impacts on overall health, including cardiovascular health and blood sugar control.

I removed the weight by fasting and low carb keto so I could find the cancer and stayed fasting and keto for treatment and build back from the bladder surgery for the adrenalectomy. This is so rewarding to hear. I had realized that only some form of carnivore would make it possible for me to give up all grain and sugar products, but I also realized that I was not giving up my raw dairy (mostly milk and kefir and a little cheese), and that too much meat would give me constipation (not just infrequent stools, but hard ones painful and difficult to pass. So I embraced Dr. Saladino’s general principle before learning the degree to which he carries it. I’m not an addictive person, generally. I can have 5-6 prunes or half a large pear or a whole small banana or 1/3 cup of berries and be satisfied.
I never knew what a blessing that was until I’ve read SO many people say they have to swear off all fruit because one leads to a binge and then cookies. It’s not strength of character, I’m just a little person and I don’t like to pressure my stomach.
But eating a strip steak or half a big ribeye or a Wendy’s baconator with just the 2 4-oz patties and a few scraps of bacon, plus mustard, leaves me with zero interest in the Starbucks banana nut bread slabs, or all the muffins, pancakes, etc. when you’re full of meat there is no room for cookies!
I had not eaten the SAD diet for many years, and never was fond of veg, so no keto flu. I just found a more than adequate replacement for bakery treats.
Of course I eat eggs, some butter, but to me honey is not a food, but a medicine. I can’t have it on toast since I left toast behind; it’s something I put in tea when I have a sore throat.
4-1/2 weeks into modified carnivore, and it’s smooth sailing. I’ll have bloodwork done in Jan-Feb and I’m be eager to see some changes. Blood pressure already improved.

I will have to go through this video later to convert all the numbers as we use a different measurement system here in the UK. I rather wish the world standardised the blood work across all nations. If I needed medical help when visiting the US I wouldn't have a clue what the numbers mean and likewise if a US citizen required help in the UK they wouldn't understand the figures. As a retired health professional I have seen this conflict first hand and the confusion it causes. I don't care which system is used but I do wish it was just one across all nations. Let's not forget that the title "When Paul Saladino is right!" assumes that sometimes he's wrong. One of those times is his taking conclusions from a study where people lost significant amounts of weight, and was high carb. This was an observational study, and started in 1934, involving 100 obese people. They were told to follow a white rice only diet and then sent home. So no checks possible to find out how closely they followed the diet. The participation time was very varied, between a couple of months, and one person for 11 years.
During the study, 9 participants out of the 100 died. Paul says this was simply because of their metabolic health, but even so, that is pretty much an unheard of mortality rate. Maybe it was because of their white rice diet? There's strong evidence for that: Asians have not been eating white rice in quantity for centuries because it's labour-intensive to produce. After the industrial revolution, manufacturing white rice on a large scale became possible. But then, a new, previously unknown disease epidemic broke out. They called it Kwashiorkor. It was discovered that it was caused by malnutrition, in turn caused by eating a staple of - white rice. What little nutrition in rice gets removed by the white rice manufacturing process. Interestingly, autopsies of those who died of the disease were found, among other things, to have been suffering for fatty liver.
Back to the white rice diet study, and the 9% mortality. Did their white rice diet have any influence on that mortality figure? You be the judge. I suspect that the person who did the white rice diet for 11 years, and was still alive after all that time, was probably not following the diet very strictly...
Dr Eric Westman likes to remind us that observational studies are only able to provide hypotheses for further study, not conclusions, or establish causation. This is where Paul is wrong: he draws conclusions, and applies them, which cannot be substantiated by an observational study.

I love this. I thrive on data, and am showing my doctor what's, what! I eat more intuitively than following any online influencers, and recently, my body told me to add, every now and then, blueberries and Greek yogurt to my plan. I don't believe I'm carb-addicted anymore, and so far, this has not triggered any cravings. My cholesterol last time was 525 and my TSH was at a high of 87.2 and t3, t4 very low, so I'm focused on that but also, my iodine level was extremely low, so i started with a loading dose of 8 drops of 2% lugol's a day. According to Dr. Abrahams (edited), I'll do that for 3 months and then to a maintenence dose of 2 drops per day. So far, one month in, my resting HR has gone up from 45 back to 65 and my body temp is much better. I won't get labs for my thyroid until i start losing weight again. I've lost a total of 22.2 lbs since eating this way; about 1 year and 8 months. Carnivore, or I like to call it, a meat-centric elimination plan to heal, is amazing! I'm 56yo and almost died from iotrogenic illness due to our healthcare "treatments" for natural human responses of our toxic environment, and the ludicrous recommendations that have been given. I'm still sick-ish, but getting better; learning and discovering along the way, and patient in knowing that it took a lifetime to get where I'm at, so it's definitely not going to be an overnight recovery. I'm praying and working each day so that the rest of my life is vital and rich in good health.

Dr. Cywes, it is a very interesting study and discussion! I made me think about how the experiment you conducted could be modified to test for all possible hypotheses and relationships. In my opinion, such study could benefit from running a long-term transient analysis of the blood work markers prior to initiating the intervention.
It is clear that the body of the client works "abnormally" compared to the population average, which in my view is a good motivation for research (before we get to speak about the intervention), but to determine whether it is problematic it would be necessary to determine a client's personal baseline and then monitor how the parameters of concern evolve with time.
    Research Point 1:
Does A1c increase over time? Does blood sugar increase over time? Do triglyceride markers, liver enzymes and inflammation markers increase/decrease with time? If those remain steady, then there is no point of concern, it is a person's norm. If those change concurrently and in alignment with the proposed/suspected pathology, then the intervention would be justified because NAFLD, plaque, thyroid-related disorders, etc. develop asymptomatically until they are not, so there would be merit to trying some approaches to regulate those markers IF they change unfavorably and have a potential to cause avalanche of responses in responsive organs.
    Research Point 2:
And of course it would be quite interesting to see the diet analysis along with the blood tests. How long had the client been on this diet by the moment of getting blood drawn? Was the client consuming fully denatured or fully/partially raw meat (translating to the bioavailability and balance of amino acids)? What was the fraction of organ meats and fats and non-essential/essential amino acids balance? How was the body responding to the meals? Was there a potential for increased protein and fat in his diet or would it be rather impractical (I think everyone would agree that distending the stomach with excessive food is not adequate)? Would changes in feeding regimen influence the parameters? These data should have been included for complete picture.
Also, on the other hand, Research Point 3:
How would the body respond to the changes in fitness regimen? I would be curious to see the changes that would follow reduction in fitness activity for a month or two, and then what would happen if he increased the fitness load. I think that would be an influential factor and it would change the acquired adaptation to synthesize large amounts of glucose to address extreme energy demands.
    Research Point 4:
I would also like to know the tiniest details of why the person decided to run the study - when things are flawless, it is rare that someone would run to a doctor, pay them money, and significantly change their lifestyle. Muscle mass and % body fat are not the absolute and only markers of health. Of course, there can be an element of pure curiosity when you are pursuing an unusual lifestyle, but still. The mere existence of this study makes me suspect that there was a need for optimization coming from the client.
A concern here is: is the body being operated in a good energy balance or is this lifestyle is borderline destructive and runs on extreme compensation?
Given how good of a specimen his client was, there could be potential for a very good paper studying a whole multitude of vital parameters! This video in general made me very excited because I enjoy deep research analytics. Thank you!😊

The truth is always somewhere in the middle, while dogmatic extremes are cultic.

I noticed if I do not eat my blood sugar stays high. But if I go ahead and eat something then my blood sugar will come down. I figured it was stimilating an insulin response. I am carnivore 2 months and my a1c is down some not where it should be yet but other numbers are high. I decided for myself to keep a little berries mixed with yoghurt in my diet. So far so good. Been worried about too much protein.

This was so well done. You’ve been helpful to me on my journey, yet my respect for you just went through the roof in terms of how beautifully you handled this case. Thanks for all you do!
