More importantly, Yutaka Nakamura's shots always take their time, they appear to be super fast and frenetic, but the guy makes excellent use of pauses.
I never realised mr Nakamura was behind nearly every fucking show I like...good video chief! I'm so happily informed haha!
lol a snip of his work was taken in the trailer leeelele
Wow, pretty much every scene in a Bones show that made me think "Wow, that was some nice animation." was done by him. Dude's a legend.
Just had to come back here after that crazy Midoriya vs Todoroki fight. Damn Nakamura.
HAH! I was just thinking, I recognized that impact and explosion style from that episode. Glad I ran into this channel, it's fun seeing how much of my anime highs were by this guy.
Haha here we are today
And after the Midoria and Bakugo fight he just animated, I had to come back again!
Now back with that Midoriya vs Bakugo
same some shots are so clearly nakamura even though last a little over a second
With Mob Psycho 100 and My Hero Academia, Nakamura has showcased what he's truly capable of. But I bet he still has a lot more to show us in the later years ;D
1999Sponge hell yeah
Especially nowadays, have you seen that infamous last fight from the end of the second My Hero Academia movie? It was amazing!!
That Sword of the Stranger fight scene has to be one of the best in the medium.
I'd place it in no.1 for sword fight category
Ed D i'd place it no.1 for any anime fights
AnimeEveryday Every work he's has been awesome
For sword fights its top 5 or top 1 for sure.
Mobi no
His impact frames are amazing, every frame has a light flashing from a different direction that makes it look explosive, really suits the purpose of a "impact" frame
Fucking awesome video!! Nakamura has been my favorite animator, and one of my favorite people in the industry, every since that Stranger fight. I must've watched it 50+ times over the years. I'd been jizzing over his fight scenes for so long that when he did that fucking tear-inducingly-beautiful dance scene in Dandy, it blew my mind to shit all over again. The history lesson and celebration of his work is much-appreciated. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go take care of the massive boner all this animation has given me.
papa bless Nakamura
+Digibro Have you seen Concrete Revolutio yet? Because that will definitely take care of your Nakamura boner. Or make it worse, either way's possible.
I am trying to learn animation art and you and canipa effect both have been like a mentor to me
giving the knowledge of how the good anime supposed to look like
thanks guys
Wouldn't it just be fantastic if Nakamura just happened to read this comment?
thats reason why i love studio bones, my favorite anime studio ever
God Im such a big ass fanboy for him, AAAA
Oh hello there
I've loved Nakamura's work before I even knew who he was or had done any research at all about the interworkings of anime. As soon as I saw his cubes in Kekkai Sensen they reminded me of FMA Brotherhood.
I remember watching this for the first time, and really finding out how brilliant and fun animation can be.
After watching this, I saw Midoriya and Todoroki and knew it was done by Yutaka Nakamura. It was the first time I guessed an animator's work, and it made me want to know more about these animators. It pretty much started my fanboying over animators and probably even my animation/sakuga career.
A couple years passed, and recently, I've been in a ditch, slowly losing my joy in animation, still animating but without any joy. But I came back to these videos and saw how enthusiastic you were, talking about these animators. It reignited my love for animation. I got excited again.
I don't know how long this will last, but for now, I'm happy I can enjoy animation once again.
So thanks for your videos and really inspiring me to animate.
I'm glad you're feeling excited to animate again!
jesus how the hell can someone draw all those frames 0_o
jrlwhite They don't. Instead, pray to whatever twisted demon will do the job for you. No one's stupid enough to actually animate, that shit's hard!
432neptune actually i wanna animate like this
jrlwhite Oh.
Well, I don't completely understand how Japanese animators do it, but the closest I can say is years of practice with both art and animation. Study real life as much as possible, even if you're doing cartoonish art. It'll really help.
There's also a book called Preston Blair's Animation, which is very helpful for learning Western animation. It can give you a better education than most colleges.
432neptune huh well wat do ya know
30fps: Flick a pile of drawings fast enough and they become a video
You did not see the drafts, the final product does not look the same as the still images
I came here following his cut in My Hero Academia S2 Episode 10. Absolutely amazing.
ep9 not 10
my bad, it is10, i was looking at other anime this season
Greatest animator ever. Always innovating his style and finding out new things. Truly this guy is an inspiration.
He is a *God-Tier* Animator
Not only is Nakamura's draftsmanship is second to none, his clear cut choreography and grasp of cinematography never fails to display anything less than the best angle of the action at the perfect moment.
He's more than just an "anime animator": his flashy effects animation are just icing on the cake, even without them his drawings are so good he is equal to or better than some of the most legendary draftsmen known for their insane abilities to rotate detailed 2D drawings as if they were 3D objects in space, (Glen Kean, James Baxter, Milt Kahl, Richard Williams). And none of those guys have his cinematic eye for fast paced dynamic action.
For a long time I was always fascinated by the transmutation animation of FMA (first series). You know that feeling of something that you can't describe well but it's there? That's Yutaka fckng Nakamura!
You can update the video with his cuts from Mob Psycho 100... and the latest episode of My Hero Academia :-) I watched it about 15min ago and I'm still shaken. Animation+story, it was truly amazing.
Benoît Richard those fight scenes in heroaca and mob 100 had me SHOOK
splash ketchum mob psycho 100 2 is just something else
@@chimugorji2899 and he wasn't even in season 2. Just to show that bones can be great without him
Great vid! I love Nakamura's cuts, and especially his ConRevo ones this season, which have been fire.
+RogerSmith2004 - literally
***** True dat.
I have recently been getting into your videos and I am surprised how little attention you have gotten compared to similar CZcamsrs, given your quality of work. I gotta say, some of my favorite videos so far are yours when you analyze animators and animation spotlights. Keep up the good work.
Yutaka is the fucking man
I goddam love studio BONES
I am so glad Concrete Revolutio is on my watch list.
Nobody is talking about nakamura's last work?, because it was fricking awesome (Mod Psycho 100 cap 8)
He did a review on that too just recently.
Thanks for always including credits and the title of the work ON THE VIDEO CLIP ITSELF! It drives me CRAZY when people list it in the description or even worse, not at all!!!
When I first started out, I got a million questions about what show a certain clip was from or what music track I was using, so now I just throw those on-screen
@@TheCanipaEffect thanks for actually taking the time to answer questions, then, and for saving everyone time in general :D I loved the video and appreciate the person who I never knew contributed SO much amazing, god-tier work to my fave shows!!
It's always a delight in seeing a video about Yutapon.
Just found this channel and its awesome, thank you for providing this.
Oh my God. I'm so glad this video exists and I have found it.
It's an amazing feeling to find a link with all of this awesomeness. This guy... I mean, his hit list of God Damn awesomeness is never ending. He has my full and utmost respect
You're videos are always entertaining and informative. Since I really don't pay attention to animators. I feel like I need to research more on my own and find out who else animated my favorite scenes in anime. Keep up the good work.l!
Really great video about my hero in animation. You describing his past work and how he currently is doing much more than his established style really motivated me to keep on animating. I think I'll look back on this video to pick me up whenever I feel down :)
Your videos are the best in the community. You're amazing.
The day you do a Bahi JD spotlight is the day tears of glory will be shed.
As someone who helped with that old sakuga panel, this is exactly the kind of conversation I was hoping would be sparked by us posting it on youtube. Great work!
one of the reasons boku no hero is so great
These educational industry videos are really positive and incredibly interesting to watch. You being able to educate people about the anime industry is so important and i wish more people would see your videos in general because your positive energy makes for a wonderful video.
Your channel, content, explanation made me appreciate anime in different way ive never have before.
Nakamura’s Deku Infinite 100% in S4 was so good!
Amazing video Callum! I think my favourite thing about Nakamura is either his choreography or the unrelenting momentum so many of his cuts posses.
Great video, this makes me fall in love with animation all over againX3
The joy in your voice is so palpable it makes me cry !!!
I just saw that this video is actually used as source for the wikipedia site Nakamura Yutaka. Just proves the quality of your videos, keep going like that.
i love how passionate and excited you are in this video, it's infectious! XD
That panel was great. Thx for the link.
I love how this content premiered on my birthday... thank you.... yutaka nakamura is my hero
Great video! I never knew he was involved in all my favourite titles!
Once he retires he neeeds to become an animation teacher, I'd absolutely love to have God as a teacher, I'd learn Japanese to perfection just for it.
This is so good! Thank you!
I love this guy along with naotashi shida
Amazing video thank you for sharing!
This is an awesome video.
Thank you very much for this video! I was looking for the guy who did scenes from Cowboy Bebop, the work is very impressive and fun to study. I will be looking forward to more of your work. Maybe you should make a playlist full of these awesome animators from mecha to landscape and chracter design.
Seriously, I need to talk with this god.
I have to admit when it comes to anime I am quite new but I absolutely love his animation I can't wait to see what else he does in my hero academia
Wow this is now my favorite youtube channel
Excellent video.Thanks.
thanks man u helped my assignment a lot
I love you Canipa
+Michael Bizley I love you too.
those "impact frames" are so fucking dope
Yes ive just found new anime to watch. I loved the style of Wolf's rain, revolutionary girl Utena and cowboy bebop !
Great video! To this day, Cowboy Bebop remains one of my favourite shows ever, and I can't believe I had no idea that Nakamura worked on it!
I had no idea. Some of my favorite scenes in so many different anime were all the work of one man.
Hope to see more animation from Nakamura for another 30 years to come
pls do NORIO MATSUMOTO
Yutapon is an animation god for a reason.
We live in glorious times. Not only because of guys like Nakamura, but also videos like this one that showcase how talented and hard-working some of these animators are. Nice work.
i just realized pretty much any animation pieces which gave me chills is from nakamura
Still my favourite animator
Sigo esperando que esté vídeo tengo subtitulos. Siempre entro a ver si ya están disponibles jaja
This video had me getting goosebumps the whole time
Great video
oh man this video got me so exited
what category do you put impact frames in? and what other "techniques" could be in the same category?
Talk about the homie Bahi JD
+Marco Elizalde I seriously totally would. But I know that if I made it, he'd probably end up watching it, which makes me feel incredibly awkward.
+The Canipa Effect not only that he'd probably show it to nakamura and his animator buddies haha
But wouldn't that also be a great chance to actually talk and ask him about some background knowledge and also review working in the anime industry from a more personal pov? Also I hope this is not asking for too much but could you maybe in general tell us more about foreigners in the anime industry? For example how Tekkon Kinkreets could even happen in the first place and some other animators like Bahi?
and now this god of animation is back to animate all might vs all for one
Haaah Yutaka Nakamura, his works are so inspiring
I like these longer Animator spotlights the most. UMmmm so Hiroyuki Imaishi when, cause he's objectively the best Nigga.
I love his work
Sword of the stranger was released in 2007 in case someone wants to know.
One of the greats!
YOUR VIDEOS ARE FUCKING GREAT,keep it up XD
"... And whatever the hell this is supposed to be."
Pretty much sums up Space Dandy in a nutshell... And I love it for for that very reason.
Oh my lord can someone plz help me by telling me what animation program did he even use when it came to animating soul eater especially for the fight scene of maka vs jack the ripper
And this was before he worked on Mob Psycho 100
Wow. Just wow.
Oh! Time to watch Concrete Revolutio after watching this...
Looks like I've been missing out on something with not watching that anime yet.
Great video! so much more substance than many others. 👍
One question though...I'm sure Nakamura has used impact shots to animate before....look at Space Dandy Episode 7 (one of my faves), when he exceeds 7th space velocity. I'm sure he is using impact shots for the normal animation here??
You're right! He did. His ConRevo stuff is more noticeable but it's got to be something he's been working on for a while.
+The Canipa Effect Ok Cool. also Thanks!, as due to your video I now know what an impact shot is.
The Canipa Effect
you are ver
you did very hillarious
I HAS FOUND MY IDOL
All right that's it. Next you have to do Masahiro Ando. Or maybe Norio Matsumoto.
Ando is also a key animator? Or did you mean Masahiro Sato? But I definitely agree with Norio Matsumoto.
+Hound Nobelman He originally was a KA for +10 years, but since the early 2000s he switched to director & animator and since 2007 he is only a director,
+1 for Norio Matsumoto
yea norio matsumoto!!!!!
Norio Matsumoto, please.
One of, if not the best animators of all time. His versatile skillset is amazing
Is ConRevo worth picking up again? I watched the first three episodes in fall when it aired, but it seemed to have a poor grip on handling its themes and the structure was pretty chaotic. But man did it look amazing and seeing cuts from the second season really make me want to pick it up again.
It's really good and horribly underrated.
After hearing a lot of positive things and buzz from a wide variety of people, I've decided to pick it up again. Someday...
How did that turn out? My opinion on it is that's overall so-so, not really very good, but not half bad. The animation is definitely above average compared to other aspects of it, though, especially the Yutaka Nakamura scenes.
This is the only reason why I now consider giving 'Concrete Revolution' a shot.
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Cowboy Bebop
Full Metal Alchemist
My Hero Academia
G Gundam
Space Dandy
One Punch Man
Like... holy shit. This man is a BEAST.
Do you have a video about Samurai Champloo? I just got interested in that series, especially the first episode blew me away. I'd like to hear your spotlights about this anime.
I just love everything about animation. I'd give one of my legs to be able to draw that well. Alas, I'll make due.
Would you give time instead of giving legs?
Hitorio
Like literal years off my life span or are you saying just practice harder? Because...nothing doing. Unless I'm secretly left-handed.
I mean moreso the latter, though not "harder." Harder doesn't necessarily equal better. It's not just about repetition or drawing X amount of sketches every day hoping that your skill will magically improve because all the advice pro artists give you is "practice."
There are people whose drawings looks the same over the span of years because no one showed them where to put their energy.
My advice is this - and this worked for me (I'll post an animation in some months to reinforce this):
Drawing Fundamentals to put your energy into:
*-Thinking in 3D*
For an animator especially, it's so important to comprehend the things you draw as spatial forms and not as flat lines or strokes on paper. This one skill goes unlearned by so many artsts that, in turn, struggle. This is the skill that makes things like dynamic angles easy to map.
*-Understanding the physics of light*
The only reason human beings can see objects is because light bounces off those objects and into our eyes. The way light bounces off a three-dimensional form determines what looks dark and what looks light to us. Understand how light bounces off of things and penetrates things; shading becomes simple.
*-Knowing the anatomy of whatever you're drawing*
Example: human skin doesn't have the contours it does for no reason. It's like a drape or cloth that's thrown over a bunch of moving gears that poke through and give it that shape. If you know what's inside the thing you're drawing, you can draw it in any position you want with accuracy by imagining the insides in different positions.
*-Understanding the physics of motion*
...and not just for animation. When you draw, you're capturing something that's usually in motion on some level in life (except, in a sense, "inanimate" objects). Even someone that's just standing there has a downward force exerted upon them by gravity. People walking. Talking and utilizing body language. Fighting. Dancing.
I guarantee that, if you put energy into these specific skills, you'll explode in growth proportionately to the level of energy you put into them. It's how these guys do it, though they vary in their flavors of proficiency in each of these areas.
A lot of people ignore these fundamentals and just draw flat lines on paper for years wondering why they don't suddenly improve - as per the irritatingly limited advice of some of their idols.
+Hitorio great advice man! I agree with you, and I don't think these things are said enough.
Hitorio
Great stuff in there. Greatly appreciated. But I just don't have that time...and I know I don't have the talent. I do have other talents however. I'd be doing myself a disservice to try to become something else at this point in my life.
I always find it weird when youtubers talk about themselves in 3rd person in their video descriptions.
Anyway, great video as always!
I like to pretend I have a PR guy who writes the descriptions.
He animated that incredible scene in Evangelion Episode 9? No wonder it's my favorite part of the whole series.
Cowbow Bebop the movie is just a feast of great animation
Nice
