- Crochet along with me - this tutorial is great for novice crocheters as well as advanced, I have listened to everyone who mentioned I went a tad fast on my gloves video so have gone nice and slow for this video (hence it is a little longer than normal)

Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on CZcams yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthevideo.com/ and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

I made mine 130cm long. I'd think 130 to 150cm is a good length. That's around 66 shell rows using a medium 4 yarn with 6.5mm hook. It took about 300 metres/ 250g of Lion Brand Landscape yarn (blue lagoon). It's so beautiful and a mother's day gift for my mum. She loved it. Thank you so much for creating this video!
130cm is a snug fit doubled over
Awwh, thank you! This was so lovely to read and I’m glad your mum loved the gift.😃
Thank you for making that fun and easy. Row two starts at 12:12
I just placed an order for this yarn and received it about two weeks ago. I absolutely love it and it has become my fav yarn of all time topping RH Unforgettable. This yarn is prettier and less expensive than Unforgettable. I’m fixing to place another order. I live in the US and shipping was very reasonable. You won’t regret this purchase. It’s less than $3USD per skein. Now I have a new pattern to use my new yarn with. This is exactly the pattern I was looking for for Christmas scarfs for family. Thanks! 💗🧶☀️
I love your tutorials and a quick peek at your lovely cat is fun xx
Thank you so much!😃😻
I can't thank you enough for this tutorial and the gloves one!!!!! The fact that you explained how we should start the next row after the 5th one made it much easier to follow. I tried a similar pattern once and it ended up being very wonky because they didn't explain how we should go after the 5th row.
I found your channel a few days ago and now I am bingeing all of them while working on my 22 yr old son's TARDIS blanket.
Yay! Welcome and happy bingeing LOL 😂
I am diving into this project. This is beautiful. I am using Mandala "Wizard" color way. Can't wait to get started. Thank you so much for such great tutorials. I couldn't have learned to crochet without you. Persistence, persistence, and the love of creating. Again, thank you.
That’s beautiful Robin! Thank you for suggesting it! I’ll crochet up a swatch and see!!
Robin I’ve just learned how to do a hex granny and then I saw your scarf and I sat watched it first and then I did the pattern along with you and I am over the moon because I kept up with you. So now I am going to follow your pattern and continue with row 2. You explain It very clearly. This by far is the most adventurous project I’ve taken on. Thank you.😂👍💕🇺🇸
Thank you so much for the wonderful video! I can’t wait to try it along with the gloves. I just ordered the yarn. 💜
Thank you! I will now have my cup of tea and a biscuit. Love your video. Easy to follow and great stitch pattern.
I so appreciated having the diagram to follow! You don't see it that often and yet it is so much easier to use, IMHO! Thank you for your clear instructions. I practiced with some cheap inferior yarn until the Boho Spirit arrived from the UK. Can't wait to get started!
Thank you!! I have been working my way through learning various stitches and patterns; this was a real treat! Fun and easy to follow.
I really acknowledge how well you explain the projects, I'm inspired to try out this one and at least one other.
Thank you so much for your clear instructions!!! I was lost until I found you. Now I want to make all your projects.
Awwh, you’re so welcome!😃🧶
It is a lovely pattern 😊 thanks for the written instructions too. Just started this today 😊
Thank you for the gorgeous scarf. I made one for my daughter in law, she put it on and wore it all evening while visiting.☺
You are very welcome!!
just ordered some of this beautiful yarn cant wait to get them, same color as you!!!
Love this stitch, but I have yet to be able to remember what I am doing. I guess I will spend hours listening to your instructions. :-) I also made a nice scarf for my step-daughter using the feather stitch that I learned from you. She loved the texture and was impressed. Thank you for helping me impress my step-daughter.
I know I am here for the pattern but OMG I LOVE YOUR NAIL COLOR 😻
Thank you so much!😀💅
That yarn looks almost metallic, like rose gold, as you were starting off. So gorgeous!
I loved making this! Great tutorial! Had to watch a few times but that's normal for me lol. Hugs and loves my friend. Toodles for now.
This gorgeous and decided to follow along using Red Heart Unforgettable in Gossamer. Turning out so lovely. Thank you so much!
Can you tell me how much yarn you used, I realize it was 2 years ago, but I would use the Red Heart also. Thanks so much, even a guess would be fine.
Great tutorial and the written pattern. Beautiful scarf.
I like this pattern very much, and now i'm doing this work for cowl, but it is round, it is beautiful. So, thank you for sharing us this pattern tutorial.
I just finished this. It is a really beautiful project.
God you are amazing, I understand very clear all your patterns even I copy it!! Great for me, now I forget what I was doing but with the pattern in paper is more easy for my old brain . Thank you I’m very happy that I found you
Thank you for making it so easy to follow along.
Thank you so much!!!! I recently made the gloves for my sister, she'll be so surprised with a matching scarf! Thank you once again 😘

Thank you Robin! I love your videos!
This is a lovely infinity scarf 🧣 and tour tutorials are good I would have liked to have seen another round of the four repeat rows as I got very confused but I managed it in the end. I have had to stop as I don’t know how to finish.
hey Heather - did you figure it out in the end? xx (sorry for the delay, I missed your comment!)
Absolutely beautiful, thank you!!

You’re so welcome Robin!😃
Beautiful pattern thank you
Beautiful scarf...💖
Hi Robin, this looks like the pattern to use with my BoHo spirit yarn. I sent you an email asking for a suggestion but I think I have found it. I think I have enough for the gloves too.
Thanks Tina. xx
You're so welcome Tina, that will look lovely!😀
Hi Robin, I'm a new subscriber, I found your channel through Bluecherub82. Love your tutorials, can't wait to try one of your projects 😊.

Thank you for lovely scaf design
You are welcome Kalpana! 🤗
Such a beautiful pattern! I was looking for a scarf pattern for my boho spirit when I found your video!!!
It's fate! 😃
Thank you!!
Just ordered this beautiful yarn, shipping was affordable to the US!
Yay!😃🧶
Love your videos/ tutorials. Do you have a hat pattern to match the Infinity Scarf in the Fantail Shell Stitch pattern ?
Thank you. Such a pretty pattern and colour way. What did the finished scarf measure?
Gonna try this, tfs. Cute cat 🥰
Hey Robin❣️You are such a great teacher!! I slowed the speed to 75% and I was able to CAL with you, no problem 😉 I wanted to ask you if you ever use Red Heart Unforgettable yarn, because it is giving me such a difficult time. It’s rather fiddly, which is a shame because the yarn is so beautiful but my stitches aren’t symmetrical. I am up to the 5th row and my work just looks a mess. Twice I have had to frog, which didn’t work and I had to cut off the first 4 rows TWICE…. Very frustrating. It says 4 medium weight, but I think it’s roving, getting very thin then down the way getting all thick and puffy.
I think 💭 I am about ready to pull my hair out. But, I love your tutorials so much, have made many projects with you. So, thank you so much. You are a gem❣️🫶🏼✌🏼🤩
Beautiful many thanks
im using the boho spirit yarn in harmony and so far each shell row is a different colour and im LOVING it
That sounds amazing Shumai!🥰🧶
@@HookedbyRobin do you have any pattern reccomendations to use with this boho spirit yarn? i cant seem to find any myself that mention it specifically besides this one
It depends what you want to make really?🤗 But this one uses boho spirit yarn: www.hookedbyrobin.com/blog/2017/09/fantail-shell-stitch-fingerless-gloves.html
Can you tell me how long you made your scarf? Thank you
Can you make this into a blanket? This is a gorgeous stitch!!
Yes, you'd just need to chain the size you wanted, making sure your multiples are the same as Robin says at the start.
Thank you Robin, I love your channel!! Can this be made in an alternate style to infinity? Any suggestions you might have would be most welcome :)
It is so lovely! Thank you for a great pattern. May I ask, I probably missed it, what length would you recommend for the infinity version? :)
Love this! What was the length in inches?
I hv subscribed ur channel..thnk u so much for sharing ur knowledge..
Thank you! Your channel looks great - I've sent the link for your spiced milk tea to my daughter! (it's not crochet but she will love it!) 😃
@@HookedbyRobin aw...thanks a lot for subscribing and sharing my link dear😍😍😍
Absolutely stunning! I don't have a 4.5 but have a 4 and a 5... is it better to go up or down?
Totally up to you! I personally would go up but that's because I crochet quite tightly anyway - have a play and see which works best for you! :)
Hi Robin! Thank you so much, this is such a great tutorial - so clear. I loved your kitty 'helper' too!! What row did you finish on when you joined your scarf to make an infinity scarf - I'm not sure which row will join best with the starting row. Also, did you use a double crochet join? Many thanks for your help :) xx
Katherine Harding Hiya! I ended on a non shell row - so one of the v stitch set up rows - I eyeballed it so didn't note down which row unfortunately! I sewed them together with a bog standard whip stitch - you don't really notice the join at all so I don't think it matters massively where you end - I can send a pic if that helps?
+Hooked by Robin Thank you for getting back to me - that's really helpful! Don't worry about a photo - I'm sure I'll be OK now. xx
I’ve now made five pairs of the Fantail Shell Fingerless Gloves - one to my classroom LSA who couldn’t believe they were handmade! - and am now onto crocheting this scarf for myself. When it comes to stitching the ends of the scarf together, should I end on a row with the HDC then sew the ends together with a needle, or is there a crochet stitch I should use to attach the ends together that you could recommend?
My friend and I was told about you in a wool shop.. Even though you use USA terms you are so clear.. Thank you so much.. You are my favourite and I can understand your voice too.. So precise. My cats are the same. Charlie my white female thinks she controls the tension... What do you use for a ball holder whilst you are crocheting away from the camera .. And your furr baby wants some mittens 🐾🐾🐾
It's lovely!! What color is this you're using? Thanks for sharing!
It's the colour way "Zen" 👍
Hi Robin! Love your work! How long is this scarf? Thanks!
Can you do this fantail shell stitch in a poncho design? I absolutely love this and would love to wear it as a poncho since I don't wear scarves. I already made the fingerless 🧤 in three color ways.😊
Ps I hope you do loads more tutorials
Am I able to do the foundation chain double crochet for the chain? Instead of the chain, then working into it for this stitch? Thanks 😊
Yes absolutely! X
I'm making an infinity scarf with this amazing pattern - thank YOU! How long should I make it though? I know I have to seam it together, but I just don't know how many rows to make it. Thank you!
I'm wondering this also (2 years later) and trawling comments looking for an answer :)
How many pairs of gloves or scarfs does each ball of yarn make? I'm trying to figure out how much to order for your patterns.
For the scarf I used 1 and a half balls of Boho Spirit 👍 For the gloves, I can get multiple pairs from 2 balls (I buy 2 balls of the same colour so I can colour match them - sometimes I'm lucky and both balls match so I have zero wastage meaning I can get about 3 pairs of gloves; other times I'm not so lucky and get 2 pairs!)
Did you block your scarf? It’s gorgeous! Thanks again! 🎃
Are the edges really straight? Mine seems to be a little wavy
Thank you ❤
You’re welcome!😃🤗
Hi Robin, love your tutorials, you describe everything so well even I can follow along. I am quite a newbie crocheter. Just wondered if you had a fantail shell hat pattern as it would go well with the gloves and scarf and make a lovely gift. Thanks in advance.
I don't I'm afraid Julie! X
@@HookedbyRobin oh what a shame but thank you for getting back to me. X
@@juliecase6029 I'm terrible at sizing when it comes to things like hats - they are my nemesis 😅
@@HookedbyRobin I have difficulty with knowing what size hook and what yarn to use but I do love the Boho Spirit, it is lovely yarn to work with. xx
Thanks very much
🥰🤗

16:37 Row 3

@@HookedbyRobin I did the timestamps for myself because I'm currently using this pattern ❤️. Love it!!
This is a gorgeous yarn. What weight is it please, #3?
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
The edges/sides of my scarf do not look as even as yours - will this work itself out when I block it?
Hi Robin, was wondering if you can make a hat to go with the scarf and gloves. I love both patterns and will be making this for a Christmas gift and need a hat/beenie/toboggan to go with it. Expecially if it has earmuffs on it.
Much appreciated..
Thanks....
You are the best.
Gail from Alabama USA
Hmmm not going to lie, hats are not my speciality - I struggle with sizing a bit 🤔 it's certainly something I can play with and have a go but not sure I can guarantee I'll have any success! 😂
@@HookedbyRobin it would be great. Plus I think it would be fun and a little challenging
Go on make a hat you know you want to
Yarn and furfolk go together on most videos!
This pattern is absolutely amazing and this video is excellent!!!!❤
On a venting note: I really struggled with this yarn (bought the same as in the video) some parts of the strand were extremely thin and some very thick. 😢 is it just me? Am I missing something? Or is that just how some yarn is?
I had the same issues but the colors are so magnificent, I decided to suck it up. I used the Suzette Stitch and it looks absolutely amazing. Now using the same yarn (different color) and using the Sieve Stitch and it is coming up a treat. Thank you Robin !!!
Hi, could someone please tell me how I find the blog for the pattern?
I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Thanks heaps for the tutorial... I absolutely love it. ❤️

😃
@HookedbyRobin thank you so much. I actually love it. ❤️
Hi Robin, Many crocheters asked how long did you make this lovely scarf and you did not reply.Pse let us know how wide it is and how long. (Also, was that yarn DK UK wool?).Thanks
How long should I make mine.
Love love love this. Want to give it a try. Is this yarn you are using DK or Aran?
Hi Sabrina, yarn info is here: www.hookedbyrobin.com/blog/2018/02/fantail-shell-stitch-scarf-free-crochet.html
😃🧶
Thanks
Hi Robin, I'm considering doing this pattern for some new multi coloured yarn, which is 150g, 375m long. Would this be enough? Also is it possible to do the shell pattern for the bottom half on each end and then treble crochet or double crochet the remainder? Thanks. Hug from Tasmania 💞
What is the weight of the yarn? X
8 ply yarn, wool 20%, Acrylic 80%.
@@HookedbyRobin weight as my comment and also to add, is this pattern going to make my scarf/shawl bulky? I need to do a sample but hoping it's ok. I'm going to use a 4.5-6mm hook too. Is that suitable? x
@@jacquicleijne9525 you might just get away with it but it might come out a little shorter - or you may find you have to play a little yarn chicken!
Those hook size suggestions sound find - I don't think it'll be too bulky but making a small sample sounds like a sensible plan! X
@@HookedbyRobin thanks. Looking forward to getting into it. Hug from Tasmania 💞
