I've had two of the Bodyguards (still have one) and the first thing I did with both is change the grips to the Hogue Tamer grips. Makes it MUCH easier to hold and more controllable and pleasant to shoot.

I got both ... I took out the Kel-Tec P-11, the M&P bodyguard with the crimson trace, and the LCR. The Bodyguard is brutal on the hands and jumps hard when the hammer falls, the Kel-Tec is inaccurate and slightly less brutal, the LCR is hard on the hands but nothing compared to the M&P - and with the smoother trigger and softer grips, it tends to be easier to be accurate with then either of the other two. I wouldn't want to put 50 through the bodyguard in one sitting that's for sure.
I bought a new 38 special bodyguard, what I really hate about it is that it has at least a 10 or 11 pound trigger pull on it. It, sucks, not like the j frame, they don't make a weaker trigger spring for it. I hate it.
I put the Hogue grip on my bodyguard and now love it even more then my LCR. And I like the ambi cylinder release on the bodyguard better. thanks for the video.

Yup thick grips can be an issue on any small frame revolver though, just depends
My mother got the S&W BodyGuard with the laser 38 and my wife got the Ruger LCR 38. I found the ruger was tighter but both do what they're made to.
Big dot for close up works fine and doesn't give you away like a nice bright laser.
@VideoLobby Depends on how you align the laser with your point of impact. Yes, you have to go to the range and shoot the gun and then align the laser to point of impact. At that distance, the laser would be on target. At different distances, the laser will begin to drift off of point of impact.

I thought the same but there was a drastic (noticeable) difference in recoil on the Ruger LCR
I just picked one up and shot it today. It exceeded my expectations.
I like them both, both S&W and Ruger are both great gun manufacturers. I only own a S&W but have shot many Rugers, and plan on getting a Ruger LCR for my next gun.
I own both. I gave the Smith to my mother and the Ruger to my wife. they both love their .38s. I owned the new Taurus polymer 357 snub and HATED it.

That's a good point about the button on the laser, in a "tactical" situation, you probably wouldn't have time to push that button with your thumb.
Very well done! I love revolvers and these are two great ones. I was amazed at the light recoil on the Ruger LCR. The grips and the design is very well done. I am looking forward to the .357 LCR. It should be awesome. Thanks.

I know what your saying Tanker but if you stop and think it is nice to have a weapon that gives you the option of having the ability to fire both the .357 and the .38 & .38+P, which is what I would use in the LCR .357.

@emmy1cat true I have some ex Navy friends and they prob feel the same. Laser is very nice I feel for target acquisition. More often I would think someone will be using in self defense so their target will be facing them anyway

@higherlearning141 A good grip can reduce felt recoil, making for a faster follow up shot. Which is good if your first shot fails to stop the aggressor.
Didn't get the metals right on the ruger, but still a good comparison. For anyone that wants to know, the ruger frames are aluminum on the 22 and .38, and stainless on the .357. All three have stainless cylinders :)

yup like "bean" said, just a thing that wouldn't fit in there with bullets, so you can easily see it's empty.. many new revolvers ship with something like that
@cbond99 no problem, I've been looking at a pocket revolver for awhile and these two are popular. The LCR does have a .357 version thats about $435 at buds and a regular .38 but with XS front big dot and houge rubber grup for $429 I believe.
Nice review/comparison...The LCR has been on my "to get" list and looks like I'd still perfer it over the Bodyguard. Keep up the great vids!

It's very simple. 158gr +P shoots amazingly well in the 357 model and for less than 50 bucks you get a stronger gun and stainless steel upper frame.

I have heard the thick grips on the LCR have caused ejection problems or speed loader problems (can't remember which). I know it depends on the grips, but have you noticed this? I ask because you mentioned the ejectors.

Good point...in addition a gun design for .357 is a stronger firearm...if you want to shoot .38 or .38+P,...help yourself as it can handle.357 no problem. For .357 500+ foot lbs is a mild load and they exceed 700+ ft lbs...try that in your 9MM.

I bought a Taurus Model 85 Ultra-lite .38. (It weighs in at ~17 oz depending on the grip you have)
Any comments on that revolver?
I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I plan on a trip to the range within the next week...
The Ruger looks a little easier to conceal,however the S&W looks a little easier to control.I also like the looks of the S&W and the trigger gaurd a lot better,but I havn't held the LCR yet. Like you said in the other vid,i don't like the ergo's of the S&W's laser. My wife is looking at the Bodygaurd line .380 also. What would you refer a woman to ccw on a daily basis of the 3?

What kind of accuracy are you getting out of that LCR at typical short-barrel revolver ranges, say 7 - 10 yards? My much larger and heavier Ruger GP-100 will make 3" groups at 10 yards using .38 Special or .357 Mag. ammo. I've never owned a short-barreled, DAO revolver, and just want to know what to expect.

Were you able/willing to dry fire them? Smith usually gets the nod when it comes to fit and finish, but I've heard Ruger did a really good job on the LCR's trigger, and with them both being polymer, maybe the differences aren't quite as noticeable? It's nice to see some more options in the lightweight revolver category. Too bad they aren't a little cheaper, or I'd probably own one by now. That's the case with most guns though, I guess.

Nice comparison. I'm curious if the new Bodyguard can hold up to the j frame legacy. Do you have any idea why S&W named it "Bodyguard" when the Airweight version has been out since the fifties?
Dude I own a S&W bodyguard and it fires lovely, can't speak on behalf on the ruger but the bodyguard very nice.

I like them both, but I think the LCR will be my gun of choice as a BUG. I don't think I'll use a laser nor do i think the plunger length will be a factor for me. I like the lighter weight and the ergos on the LCR. I must say the S&W is prettier though.

what kinda grip is that on the LCR?
based on the bore axis height, the Smith offers a lower kick leverage. ruger barrel sits higher. one video at range showed this, the users preferred the smith over the ruger as better to shoot.
@speedwaypinoy i thinks its a lock so you cant put bullets in but im not sure
sounds like you made your mind up before u fired. the smiths grip is made where u hold it higher = less ramping up of the barrel when firing

How does one open the cylinder on the S&W revolver here? There is no cylinder latch.
you say at or around 9 16 that the smith has a longer ejection rod. That it makes a big difference. You didn't give credit to the standard length or the longer length as being better. I"d like your opinion and why please.
What is the MSRP on the smith & wesson?
I'm walking out with a Bodyguard, LCR II or a S&W 642/442 this weekend but im stilll not sure which, honestl it might be whichever one is the cheapest but right now the Bodyguard is the one I favor, feels good int he hand, I can put Hogue grips on it for cheap $15 and I love the feel of those grips /w hogue on them, so...Also the trigger feels better on the Bodyguard than the ruger LCR II does (though a lot of people say the opposite), and imo the 442/642 and bodyguard seem a tad lighter and thinner. I like having the laser for dry-fire practice and range practice, I like the ambi-release on the bodyguard....but I also enjoy the 442/642 esp the 642 i nstainless, and I've never had a Ruger go bad on me so....it's really almost an "eeny-meeny-miny-moe" (except at the end I think the laser might niche it, I know I can add one to the others but that one's already there and mounted, so...)

I can see not wanting to PAY the extra $ to get a 357 over 38sp. But, if money were no object, I had rather have the 357. It cud be loaded w/ the first rounds in 38sp & the last in 357. The 357 shud have more velocity & foot-pounds. Of course both the 357 & the 38sp shud have more w/ a longer barrel. Wud not a revolver be harder to carry in the pocket than a semi-auto?

Nothing wrong with Ruger. They just don't have the re-sale value of a similar Smith or Colt product. Same thing with Taurus. They are all "good enough", but you DO get what you pay for. The next level down would include Rossi, which is owned by Taurus. Good stuff, but with a little less finesse in the overall quality than Taurus. The least level weapon that I would own would be a Charter Arms product. They get the job done, but there IS a difference in Scotch, so to speak.
what does the lc in lcr stand for i know the r has to be revolver and the lcp the p is the pistol lol

Ruger is all I have real experience with and I like it's laser, so LCR w/ laser

I dont really like Ruger's cylinder release button...always seemed funny to me
And that must be why we see so many 8" .357 Magnums around...
I hate it when I'm almost about to buy a gun and then a report pops up about a problem with that gun. Like the LCR that blew up.

Two comments. dont buy either of these!!!! Instead buy the 442 Smith and add a CT laser and spend the other 100+ bucks and be MUCH happier. On the LCR skip right to the 357 model and shoot 38P ammo in it and replace the factory grip with a compact CT grip. In fact buy the compact CT grips always. It feels and conceals much better. Both of the solutions I mention beat these two guns by a long shot but dont cost much more. The lasers on the bodyguards are total crap.

Gee , do you think the 1 once differnce might be due to the S&W having a laser unit and battery???? And what the heck is with saying front heavy instead of muzzle heavy, not to mention top lever and not the correct term cylinder release. No actual measurements and no actual range report......
When I tried the lazer on the smith, I didn't like the button at all. I concider it a worthless pain in the rear to have on the gun. The LCR's lazer grip works great. But I wouldn't have it because the grips just don't feel near as good as the standard ones do. Plus the lazer cost over 200 dollars more.
@CampingestBoyAlive Consult your state's gun laws. Then consult your university's rules concerning firearms.
LCR .38+P IS A PITA TO SHOOT. IT WANTS TO JUMP OUT OF YOUR HAND. IT MIGHT EVEN BE JUST AS BAD AS THE GLOCK-23 .40 CAL.
I don't think that I'd give my 638 up for either one of them.

Ur car is considered private property so as long it stays in the car u r not breakin the law my deddy is a police officer here in GA and i had to ask him this same ?
