- If your Volkswagen Golf Jetta Beetle has no engine oil pressure I am glad to help you with that. Volkswagen 2.0 L AEG AVH AZJ AZH APK AQY BEG known for engine oil pressure problems.
Operating your vehicle with low engine oil pressure will lead the car to catastrophic engine failure as a result expensive motor repair or engine SWAP.
In this video tutorial we cover all steps how to look for the causes of low oil pressure. How to remove the oil pump and inspect the pump accordingly to the manufacture specifications by using filler gauge and by doing a visual inspection.
We also suggest you to check the oil pressure switch (oil pressure sensor or sender) and tested oil pressure by using analog oil pressure gauge kit before getting deeper into the engine.

Man I gotta say, as a videographer and editor, and being so broke I gotta work on my vehicles myself, having sifted through countless attempts at a video that is actually followable, cut well, and instructive, yours is at the top so far! Kudos!
Thanks James! Appreciated for sharing your story. Let me know if you have any questions, I will try my best to help. Cheers brotha!
perfect instructions. never done an oil pump myself before but your video has got it done spot on :) thank you :) :) :)
Glad it helped Dan!
I don't even have a vehicle and I enjoyed this video. I think the voice over works well in this one ! Nice!!
Thanks, Daxximas! Appreciated your interest to my vids. Cheers.
You Posted Vid just in time I need it. Everything is clear to the point without any fluff. Awe.
We glad to help!
It’s good to see the experiences of real VW techs in “THE FIELD”
Hi Bryan! Thanks for watching. Live and learn.
Real VW techs = 🤡
Very interesting video. Now I can know how to check those gerotor pumps!
Merci!
Got to say .... This was a well executed tutorial. Good on you and thank you very much
Hey Corbin! I appreciate that!
I found that I have other issues now. Grrrrr
this video was so helpful thx a lot
Glad to hear that!
Instructional video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Too good video، you talking with good detali and showing well
Thanks a lot 😊
Good job
Brilliant video, all the detail and so easy to follow and understand, you have saved my daughter's car, thank you. One question, can the shredded aluminium bearings be replaced to save the engine? Can it be done with engine in her Golf?
Thanks again for great work. Kent
Thank u.needed that tutorial
You bet!
Brilliant video Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it, Phillip!
Was really helpful. To me thnks guy
You're so welcome Keshenz!
Well explained southing voice 👌🏼👌🏼😌😌
Happy Holidays to you and your family!
Great vid!
looking for why my oil not return to oil pan after engine off (within one hour, not accurate), much appreciate any ideas.
thanks
Great video my friend. I've just bought a Yr 2000 Golf which put oil light on when driving home. 2.0ltr 85kw gti spec. Just checking is the similiar model to that in video? Can't see the letter code in my book, only AGG seems closest. Thank you.
thank you for the info. my golf 2001 has oil pressure problem. it is not about the sensor and the pump as we know. but they could not find the reason. That warning just appears after I drive 20-25 min. Do you have any suggestion?
I have a
1.9 TDI Jetta 03. My engine was rebuilt and now it's throwing the oil
warning. It only does it like 10-15 minutes after fully warmed up and
smokes a bit more at that time and not while warming up. If the pickup is clogged, will it trigger the warning any any operating temperature or only when it fully warms up ?
Great video! Easy to understand and could see everything well
I have a problem with my 2013 gtd. low pressure warning light on cold start. Goes away once engine is warm. Any ideas??
Hey Kirk! I would check actual oil pressure value by using manual gauge. Check readings Hot / cold idle and 1500-2000 RPM hot pressure first. Let me know what pressure do you have. Cheers!
If you spin the fly wheel there is notch in it (the fly wheel) that will help you get those hard side bolts out.
How would you change those bearings? Jw in case I have to do it.
I have my 2017 golf sportswagon in the shop right now because the stop low oil pressure light came on. They put a new oil valve and oil pressure sensor, I thought they had figured it out. Now they want to do an oil treatment. They said it’s still doing the warning light after it warms up. Would it be better to pay them to pay them to pull the pan instead of the oil treatment? When the warning light came on, I got the oil changed immediately but after a mile of driving, it came on intermittently. I just bought this car a couple months ago and it only has 55,000 miles on it. Help!
Managed to sort 2 of these now without removing sump or crossmember etc
Using a toothbrush a trim pick and also lots of kerosene 👍🏻
Awesome brotha. Thanks for sharing your experience! Did you film any videos? Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!
PistonShack next one I do I will film it bro but before doing the ones I’ve done I did look at your video
One was a 2.0t A4 b7 tho which suffer similar pickup issues
for the back bolts deep in the holes.. extensions with Ball ends.. so the socket will swivel works great..
Hi Wayne! Thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers.
Hi PistonShack, thank you so much for this video. I was wondering what state and city you are located. I would like for you to please fix my car that has the same oil pressure light coming on
Hi Nanreza! Thanks for your comment. I am glad it helped you out to understand low oil pressure issue on MK4 VW specifically. I am from Canada. What is your oil pressure reading at cold start, warm idle and 1500-2000 rpm?
Yeah, let me know if you have any questions! Cheers)
Can you help me?. I own a Audi A3 2.0 FSI from 2005. I am going to have too take the sump off soon to reseal it so I was going too change the oil pump too while the sump is off. I have the Manuel and it's telling me that if i want the chain removed i have to take off the timing belt off and the crankshaft oil seal housing. Can I change the oil pump without taking off the timing belt and crankshaft oil seal housing??.
Great video very clear. So how was the low oil pressure issue resolved? I understand that you checked oil pump and all but did the vehicle restore its normal oil pressure?
I ended up replacing the engine with known good used one.
Just got my vw gti back from the workshop after 3 months because of cylinder #3 misfire which was caused by a broken piston ring.
But after 150km of driving the low oil pressure light has come on. The mechanic is closed for 2 weeks and im not going to drive it until it is open. Is this an issue they have caused from the recent repairs or a new problem i have to pay for?
Great video! I own a 2016 gti, 62k miles. recently my oil pressure light started coming on, always at a stop. long story short .. oil pan was dropped and there are shavings and found a chunk of metal in pan. They didn’t inspect oil pump, just straight up said, NEW engine, cost more than car is worth. Pan was cleaned, oil changed with same weight 5-40 light hasn’t come in for couple days now. Any advise you can give would be greatly appreciated. Don’t know much about mechanics, totally sick about this.
Hey m height. Well, I would keep watching oil light carefully. Definitely do oil pressure test with manual gauge. Most likely engine won;t last long. Just start looking for the swap engine. Sometimes you can find them at the junk yard pretty cheap.
How much shop asked for the labour and parts?
@@PistonShack 15k, and another 2k for brake pads, reverting the ECM and couple other minor things. The car's value is 17k-22k. I feel like selling to someone that can fix it themselves for a-lot less. Just love this little car, but don't feel safe on hwy with this problem. Thank you so much for your reply.
@mheigh4168 what model 1.8t is m8?
Have you made any videos on low oil pressure on a vw 2003 v6 passat?
No, unfortunately I don't have any VW Passat vids. Should be much difference.
I have a question about any specific sound during driving on low oil pressure. While ago I had a ride with low oil pressure and the engine started rattling. I was taken by the tow truck, but the issue isn't sorted yet. There is a very clear knocking noise on idle and becomes a rattling on higher RPMs. I'm not sure if the noise is caused by the low oil pressure or the engine is gone already. I think I will handle to rebuild the engine, I've already replaced some parts of the engine gearbox, turbo cam chain tensioner and more, but I don't know if the internals are gone.
Hi Brotha! Sounds like your connecting rod bearings gone. Did you check engine oil pressure? If yes what readings do you have at idle and 2000 rpm. Let's go from there! Cheers!
@@PistonShack Thanks for the answer. Did not check the oil pressure as I just started the engine first time since this happened and replaced other parts first when the car was off. I also suspect the rods, but can not hear the noise when I crank the engine, just when engine runs idle and rise with RPMs
Did not find the main bearing replacement Video, was the engine shot, curious how it turned out.
I ended up replacing the engine.
@@PistonShack Thank you a friend has a drop in oil pressure in a car he just bought and appears to be similar.
I had the same issues with pan hole only issue afterwards is with oil pressure light over 2k. But no loss of power no weird noises other than a rear main exhaust leak. Suggestions?
Hi William! That's not sound any good. Did you drive with a pan hole before noticed? Have checked actual or pressure on warm idle and 2000 rpm?
If the oil pump failed when the vehicle is in motion, what other parts are likely to be broken?
Oil pumps normally don't fail right away. They worn out slowly. If oil pump chain brakes pump won't work.
Can you please tell me if it had a squeal and then it shuts down like it stalled out ? Please thanks
I cannot tell you because engine wasn't seized up when I got the car. Only crank main bearings were shot due to the luck of lubrication.
I know this video is a year old but I'm having the same problem on my MK5 GTI I just replaced oil sensor in the oil pump and I'm still getting the low pressure warning my car sounds quiet the engine seems fine just had an oil change I can't figure out what's going on
Hey Laurence! I would check actual engine oil pressure with a gauge @ start up / warm up, warm idle and 1500-2000 rpm first. How many clicks on your MK5?
Hi I wonder if anny one can help me out my 1800 golf m3 has oil pressure at the oil filter but when I test for pressure at the head there is none. What I did is change the oil and tried again it still had no pressure to the head.,then the problem went away I drove for about 40 kilometers switched the car of and when I started it again the problem was back, oil pressure is constant 4 bars at oil filter sensor
Hey Andries! Interesting, what oil pressure do you have at the filter housing @2000 rpm and warmed up idle? I am not sure about pressure readings at the head. Did you try to take valve cover of to check for an oil flow?
Hi how are you. i have a jetta mk4 2002 model 1.6 petrol SR can i ask you questions
Hey Vaun! Yup, go ahead.
Hi have a Vw Caddy 2.0 TDI that's losing oil pressure only when hot. Clearances are good, new main ,big ends , oil pump, oil cooler and oil filter. Really don't know how to solve the issue
Hey Nathan! Did you check actual oil pressure @ hot idle and 1500-2000 rpm?
@@PistonShack yes we did sir , and the pressure drops as soon as car gets to 90 degrees celcius
Hi, let me tell you - I'm not a mechanic, but I understand a bit ... I have a problem with the oil pump. When I drive a car, for example 80km / h 4 speeds at 2000 rpm, my lights do not come on, but when I drive down a hill or up a hill, it always comes on and it says Oil pressure: Engine off! Owners manual! I did a big and small service, changed the oil pump, changed the air filter, filled the air conditioning, changed the PC belt, changed the oil pressure sensor but in vain it occurs again at intervals. I drive a Skoda Octavia 2011 2.0TDI 103kw 140hp 6 speed. Does anyone know what the problem is to tell me would mean a lot to me.
Greetings! Seems like under the load your engine experience so oil starvation.
What is your engine actual oil pressure readings at idle and 2000+ RPM? I would check pressure with analog gauge then go from there. Let me know how everything is going. Cheers Brotha!
MrNebojsa43 did you find a solution? I have the same problem
Hi I have an issue on my gti mk5 bwa engine. Oil pressure sensor came up saying stop. Put in a new oil filter and new oil. It was fine until 15 mins later. Then same issue happened again then the engine started making a real loud noise. Check the engine oil on the dip stick and there's oil. Gonna check sump and pickup pipe hopefully it's just the pickup pipe blocked.Anyone had similar issues like mine? Can it be the pickup up being blocked and making loud noise in the engine? Any help would be appreciated
Hey AsgarH! Have you tried to measure actual oil pressure with a gauge @idle, and 2000rpm on warmed up engine already?
@@PistonShack thanks for the reply. No not yet I will be doing this over the weekend. I checked on vw forums and this tends to be common issue on the mk5s. Hopefully it's not a big issue as I found out that this can cause an bigger problem with the engine
@@Gar1993 Sounds good brotha! Always hope for the best. Let me know what pressure readings do you have.
@@PistonShack will do bro.👊🏾Hopefully I'll start CZcams as I love My vw golf and the mods will be crazy on it 😂
What size is the torx?
Sorry, I don't remember.
How did you repair that gone bearing?
I put new short block from the donor car.
@@PistonShack replacing only the bearing from underneath (as someone claims to do, don't know if on this specific engine too) is too barbarian? What do you think about that?
I have exactly the same problem. My nephew put a hole in the oil pan and ran the engine with the light on until it stalled. Replaced the oil pan and the car still runs! 2 days later the oil light comes on :( Watched this video then.. Took oil pan off and found shavings. Saw same broken shavings in spaces between rods. What was your next step?
Hey Daniel! I so sorry to hear that. I would find running junk yard engine and swap it in. I won't even try to rebuild original one, it's not worth it. Let me know how if your repair. Cheers!
@@PistonShack We are going to try to replace the thrust washers and bearings on the crankshaft AND cam shaft. Wish us luck. Would you think there is likely damage deeper in the engine?
I would inspect crankshaft / beds ect. for any damage before replacing any parts. Otherwise just replacing bearings and washers will be just waste of time and money.
My fingers crossed :)
So whats the oil pressure problem if it wasnt the oil pump?
Hi Jason,
Cause of low engine oil pressure was worn out piston connecting rods bearings. Clearances in between moving engine parts create oil pressure. Tnx.
I have a gold mk4 recently I changed the cone bearings, thrust washers oil, hydraulic tappets, oil pressure switch, oil pump, changed the engine oil, however I have a rough idle, slight misfire and the low oil pressure sign comes on after sometime.
And it is consuming a lot of fuel I'm suspecting 8km/L
I'm yet to change the air filter and the breather pipes are in a bad state
how to put it back in?
How to put oil pump back?
hello my vehicle 2015 ww Jetta 1.6 TDI. About a year ago, my vehicle gave a low oil pressure signal. After a long interval, we gave the same warning again and we made a pressure measurement, the pressure was low 2000 rpm: 1.2 bar. The oil pump, oil stump, oil jets changed and the solution was not removed. All engine bearings changed and overhaul. The problem is not solved pressure again low. What could be the problem? What's your opinion?
Good day! Sounds to me your engine crankshaft clearances are getting bigger way out of the manufactures specifications. Probably, when you replaced previous engine work wasn't done properly or engine engine experienced oil starvation at some point after.
Oil pump itself doesn't create the pressure, clearances in-between the engine components do. How that oil pressure drop happened during the operation?
The engine was measured, the blogs and the cylinder head did not show any cracks. The main and sleeve bearings have changed. Crank and eccentric control. Oil pump and oil index changed. All mechanical controls were performed.
Okay, I see. First check for any engine wear, look for any metal shaving on the bottom of the oil pan. Check oil pump pressure spring regulator valve. Second, always use recommended type of engine oil. Check engine coolant operating temperature - high temperature can thing the motor oil and lead to lower oil pressure on some vehicles.
mechanically all parts were checked. The motor was removed and the test and measurement were performed. Could any electrical installation or software error reduce the oil pressure? No solution for exactly 2 months. this annoyed me quite a bit. I went to many mechanics and found no skillful solutions. It's unbelievable, they've tried everything they need to do, they say I need to buy a new engine 😔 so I wanted to get help from you.
@@serkanpordy5206 I agree, you need to know what cause the low engine oil pressure. Software won't effect oil pressure directly but it could happen due to oil dellusion with fuel, incorrect fuel ratio and fuel trims, ect.
Data does not lie. If specs were in limits at the time when engine was assembled, it doesn't mean engine is okay right now. Could be two possible reasons: poor quality parts installed or low quality engine rebuild work was done. Possibly combination of both.
It was alright for awhile then your engine started to fail.
Check those thing I told you previously, then we can move forward. Start by Dropping the oil pan and look for shaving like I did in my video.
What year is this?
2003
Was the engine a writeoff? :P
I just replaced replace the head, that was it.
The two inside bolts are a bitch, 10 mm swivel socket
They could be hard to remove. Tnx for watching. Happy Holidays!
porcarie de silicon.puneti garnituri
How would you change those bearings? Jw in case I have to do it.
Nope, I put another engine in.
