I have basic knowledge on arts but not as fine as this... Clearly people dont agree that it is for beginners... Because they dont listen to how it was made.. its the basic process she is telling for every beginner .. she makes a sketch not for beginners but the process she is explaing is the basic and the most importan thing .. so very much thankful for this tutorial.. it really helps❤..for beginners like just listen for the basic tips how to sketch dont look at it and say its not for beginners

The curve of the nose is a little different, the chin is not quite as pronounced and the eyebrows are ever so slightly higher. Also, I think the cheekbones are a little bit different. Even an incredibly skilled artist cannot make a perfect replica. This just goes to show that you don't need to be perfect in order to make great art.

    • @khanart8504
      @khanart8504 Před 3 lety +15

@@taf8903 It was a great drawing, but yes, some of features in the original are sharper and better (if you can call it that). Then again the artist made this as a tutorial so she might not have paid the same attention as she would in a professional drawing. I always think shading is secondary, have to get the facial features and structure right!

    • @taf8903

@@khanart8504 I don't mean to discount her skill in any way, only to point out that the drawing is not a photocopy. I think what she was trying to say was that you should focus more on making a drawing your own instead of trying to copy it exactly like a machine. You have to make your own shading and lines based on how you interprete the reference image.

    in summary:
    - use proportion guidelines (if you don't have an ipad, you can print the photo and draw the guidelines on there)
    - draw the guidelines very lightly (i personally use hb for guidelines)
    - if you don't have a blender at home, use can use a paintbrush or tissue
    - draw with light pressure. if you want to go darker use a darker graphite pencil. if you are confident, you can try harder pressure by try doing that at the end
    - if you're doing a greyscale pencil sketch, try printing or changing your reference photo to greyscale as well
    - pay attention to the highlights and shadows (where the light is coming from)
    - try drawing hair in smaller sections then slowly add on
    - don't try and draw each individual strand of hair (aside from one or two hairs that may be poking out)
and don't be too hard on yourself! good luck all

I have a passion for drawing portraits. This video really gives me some insight on how I can improve my skills on drawing hair realistically. I've been doing this stuff since I was a sophomore in high school and I'm always trying to find ways to experiment and improve every time I do a drawing. I use an ebony pencil and blending stumps to do my work - blending stumps are your BEST FRIEND when doing a drawing because the shades come out clean and you're able to include minute details in the work. I always take pride in the small details and seeing the look on the person's face when I show them the finished work. Thank you for your demonstration on this video.

Actually its important in the beginning, to see beyond ''that it looks bad''... in the beginning even Mona Lisa looked bad... the beginning is every time the first approximation to the reality... Thats why Emmy said in the video : dont be to harsh on yourself.
Its important that you are aware: that you are on a journey,...and in process you get better and better.. and maybe its sounds odd , but you need a bit fall in love with your creation, in the process. Dont try to hate your drawing by searching the flaws and hate the drawing for the flaws... Errors are made in the process.. not every error need to be corrected .. just try to make a drawing, were you are a bit more pleased with your progress, than with the last drawing.
Sure recognizing errors and corect them, is important , but not at every cost.
Emmy knows a lot about the soul of drawing, it seems for me. Thats why she also says : ''you are not a copy machine'' .. it means: learn to like , that you put a part of yourself into your creation. An own style, how you do things. It can even mean, you left some errors for purpose, if the errors really , honestly are part of yourself and your own way to draw. That doesnt mean , you can excuse flaws you want to avoid. A drawing can feel uncomfortable for the viewer, when in the drawing, for instance you avoided something, just to hide errors which otherwise would occure.
The drawing needs to be an honest expression of yourself... And that can mean , like Emmy said : enjoying the process. For me, - and thats a personal thing: i dont enjoy drawing , even when i am a professional drawer. But i have other reasons why i feel the need for drawing. Everyone can have his own reasons. But everyone should express his reasons honestly with this hobby.
Nevertheless, Emmy said it better in the video, than i did here.
