    I love how you adjusted the Calendex and added the future log. I was thinking that lay out would work perfect for me but I would have the future log where I actually put the appointments for the Calendex beside it. Then I would have the next four months and a future log for those four on the next couple of pages. What a brilliant idea! It doesn't take up a ton of space and is easy to read. And I don't have to be an art major. :-) Thank you for the great ideas.

    Since you've introduced your Calendex page I was thinking it's a big page setup because I usually don't plan mire than 3-4 months ahead and I usually use a notebook for 4 months. But your new version of the Calendex might be working for me. I will try it in my current bujo even if I'm at the half of it, then make my own improvements, according to my life, to it.

    I'm glad you showcased the Allistaire (sp?) method as I actually think that will suit my planning style better than a calendex. I also changed out that single-month view layout to an actual calendar layout. Just works better for me. Using my bullet journal strictly for personal life stuff--keep my work stuff out of it. Because of that I don't need to put quite so much information into it, so simple works best. Real glad I found your blog and videos. Been bu-joing for about a month now and I'm seeing its benefits.

In terms of your hybrid Calendex with the chart for long term future planning (past your four months) how would you record dates in your new Calendex if you had to move to a new journal since all the page numbers would be different ?! Thanks !

    this is such a cool system! I only found out about bullet journals a few days ago and really like the idea but was worried about how I would organise future events, for example I have a dentist appointment at the end of this month that I have had booked since November and with my current system I can just go straight to May and write it in, but this system could work really well :) think I'll need to invest in some Tipex for all the mistakes and changed appointments that will inevitably happen! x

  • @K3N67
    @K3N67 Před 8 lety +1

    Welcome back! I liked how you revised to the 4 months. I was wondering what you would do if you finish your notebook and had that full year spread. You would have to transfer the whole thing or most of it over to the new notebook. I recently started getting into the bullet journal (I'm doing a sort of test run in an old notebook to see how it goes) and I put in the calendex. I'm not sure if I can use it properly or to its entirety yet but we'll see. This video was very helpful, as are all your videos, and I think I will give the 4 or 6 month calendex a try instead of a full year. Thank you for your input and ideas! Love your videos and blog!

    Kara, I have the opposite problem from you and some of the other commenters. I run a very popular field trip program, and the demand is so high that we start accepting reservations 5 years in advance! So, I've been thinking about setting up the calendex for a couple of years into the future, say 2017 and 2018. What was bothering me was that our calendardoes change pretty frequently, especially at the beginning of the school year, so the details could change long after I first wrote them on a daily page. I thought about trying some version of Kim's threading, but having seen what you're doing, I think color-coded dots may be the way for me to go. I have staff who stay on top of all of the logistical details (school name, teacher contact information, etc.), so really all I need to know is that we have a group scheduled to come on a particular day. Do you have any thoughts about this approach?

    I have a question for you...I'm starting my first Bullet Journal on Monday and want to use the calendex...my biggest problem ist that I don't know how to handle appointments I already know I have as there is no space to write them in...the same problem would occur to me when switching over to a new Bullet Journal when you old one is full and I don't want to constantly get back to my old Journal to check there...do you create a page where you have all the appointments you know about and use that as the page to refer to or how do you handle this problem?

    Love your videos! I just learned about the Bullet Journal this week. Question...do you only use the Calendex / Bullet Journal for all of your appointments or do you still use a calendar app? I currently use a color coded calendar app. I'm still figuring out if I should use both systems and keep my appointments in my calendar app and only use my Bullet Journal for to-do's and journaling or just use the BJ for everything. Any words of wisdom? Thank you so much for sharing your passion and artistry!!!!

  • @carolmelancon
    @carolmelancon Před 7 lety +1

    I like the Calendex + Alastair Future Log concept, but I'm curious as to how you handle seasonal/month dependent tasks rather than events you can tie to a specific date (clear out old fig leaves and fertilize when they fall, Confederate jasmine on the pergola tends to peak around this week - plan garden party, etc.) that you want to log well in advance so you don't forget them, but don't want to wait until your Monthly log comes up to write them down. I can see how those would work in Ryder's original future log. Would you put those as tasks in the Alastair log? I can't wrap my brain around how they would work in the Calendex.
    Oops! Just started watching "How I Index My Bullet Journal" and see a "Spring Tasks" collection, Doh! Now I have to think about which way will work best with my brain.

    I just need to ask you a question : how do you see in advance this "dead line" , I'm a graphic designer and i have a lot of dead lines but with this system it looks like I would realize that just the day before, when i'm about to write all the to do list for the next day.... And on the Calendex it's just numbers, not words, so how do I know that it's a dead line and that i have to work on this long before ?

      Sorry, I'm not Boho Berry... My answer is if you need to designate deadlines differently, either have a different symbol or a different color. Since I only use color to decorate not color code, I would use a different symbol like an underline or circle instead of a box. Hope that helps!

  • @Joy2Plan
    @Joy2Plan Před 8 lety

    First of all, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I have a question. Since I'm a newbie BuJo user, I used Ryder's original "future log" layout which works for me. I only add my future to-do's / appts since I use my Calendar app for all birthdays, pay periods, appts, etc. I do love the Calendex and the colored dots (I'm a visual learner and I color-code everything). I did create a Calendex and copied all the b-days, pay days, etc. (all repeating events). I now want to add May's future to-do's & appts (I never wrote them down in my daily pages) and I'm not sure how to write it in my Calendex. It's not a repeating event and it's not written in my daily pgs. Does it make sense to add my future to-do's "a la Alastaire" method? I would like your expertise. Thanks again!

    • @Bohoberryshop
      @Bohoberryshop  Před 8 lety

      +Sharon N. Hi Sharon, thanks so much for your kind words! :) The calendex works best when each appointment/vent is written within your dailies so that you can reference that page number. What you could do to get started it to create a page specifically for all of your upcoming events/appointments and then list that page number in your Calendex on each day that you have an appointment. :)

    Hi! I am new to Bullet Journaling. I love your blog and videos because they are so creative and provide lots of inspiration for making the process unique for each person. Do you "save" pages in your journal? For instance, if you know that you're going to need to create another 4 month Calendex, do you set aside pages in a Calendex "section" or do you just create the spread on the next free page of your journal when the time arises? One of the issues I have with most pre-produced planners on the market is that a certain section may not contain enough pages for the information I want to put there. Maybe I want to keep track of books to read, but the planner only gives me 1 page for notes, etc. Does that make sense?

    • @Bohoberryshop
      @Bohoberryshop  Před 8 lety

      +Susanne Johnson Hi Susanne! I don't normally save pages. The idea of the bullet journal is that you never know how much or how little space you will need. If I run out of room on my "books to read" page, I'll just create a new "books to read" on whatever the next page is in my journal and index it accordingly. Hope that helps :)

    Question: How often do you make a new calendex? Do you make (3) 4 month spreads one right after another at the beginning of the notebook? Or would you do like jan, feb, mar, and april and then let those months go by and THEN make next one? OR would you make a new calendex after each month and just include the following month, like 1st one is jan feb march april and the second one is feb mar april may?
    I know that each person can do whatever they like with it, but i'm actually asking for your opinion, are there any obvious cons to either of those ?

    I have a question: If you're doing the Calendex, do you still do the monthly page too? The one with the dates and days of the week running down the side of the page? Like so many others, I have been inspired to begin a bullet journal because of your blog and videos. I'm so happy I've done this! I needed it _so_ badly. My train jumps the track constantly! Haha But it's that one point that I don't understand. It seems redundant to put your commitments on the calendex and daily pages, and then again on a one- month page, but maybe I am misunderstanding. Anyway, TIA I love my bullet journal!
    (P.S. I've started the Miracle Morning and Level 10 Life too! Thx for that info as well.)

      I have the same question! With the calendex, would the monthly page or even the future log still be helpful?

    • @Shan-jn9nr
      @Shan-jn9nr Před 8 lety +2

      I plan to use the Calendex for future planning and my Monthly Log to jot down one important thing that happened each day, rather than all my appointments. Those will be tracked through dailies and my Calendex.

      +Best Laid Plans If I were you, I would pick a color for each child. For repeating events, perhaps you could devise little symbols for each activity?

    • @debbiegraf7145
      @debbiegraf7145 Před 8 lety

      When my kids were younger I didn't use a bujo, but all 3 kids were involved in the same type of activities & I would color code my calendar with 1 color for each type of activity & then use an initial to indicate which child it was for. For example soccer was red & school was green I would write a red B to indicate a soccer game for Brittany.

    This is a very stupid question probably, but do I need a Bullet Journal even if I'm not a super-busy person, and my life packs predictability (appointments, events, assignments, etc.)? I'm a college student, but not someone who has got too much on his plate.

    • @Bohoberryshop
      @Bohoberryshop  Před 7 lety +1

      That's not a stupid question at all! One of the great things about the Bullet Journal system is how adaptable it is -- there's no minimum or maximum to the things you can put in it! Try it out and see what you think :)

    I could not wrap my head around this video explanation. Mind you this is probably due to week 6 of bronchitis and antibiotics and steroids. I went to your website and by reading I completely understood it. The video is NOT bad nor do I think it lacks explanation. I think the problem is me and being ill for so long. I think a three month spread would be better for me personally and would like to know where to find out how others do their pages if they don't like the flipping back and forth as stated in one of the other comment below. The flipping just isn't my cup of tea. :)

      +Life Paths I'm glad you were able to understand it better by going to the blog. That is part of the reason why I like to do both. Sometimes it's more easily understood one way or another :) In the description I linked to my "Future Planning" blog post. It outlines 5 of the most popular ways to plan future events in your Bullet Journal. Hopefully that will help you :)

      No, actually she explained that they were repeating events, so she doesn't have to keep writing them out. Like I teach music lessons, so I wouldn't have to write out the same flute lesson on Wednesday every week, just have a dot in the color for teaching and I know what it means...

    I'm pretty sure that that snotty young lady who told you that you were mispronouncing "Leuchtturm" (ch- indicates a hard c) was incorrect. You previously pronounced it loik-sh-turm, which, I'm almost positive, is correct. As always, Kara, you're pretty spot on with your first instinct ;)
