Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

- čas přidán 20. 08. 2024
- The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test, or PFT, evaluates stamina and physical conditioning. It includes 3 parts: pull-ups or push-ups, plank pose, and a 3-mile timed run. Note that as of 2023, crunches were replaced with the plank as the mandatory abdominal strength evaluation for the PFT.
Pull-ups and push-ups are essential to building the upper body strength necessary to win battles.
Planks are critical to maintaining a strong core and being battle-ready at a moment’s notice.
Males must complete the three-mile run in 28 minutes or less. Females must complete the three-mile run in 31 minutes or less.

About the United States Marine Corps:
The Marine Corps defends the people of the United States at home and abroad. Within every Marine is the willingness to engage and determination to defeat any adversary, and it is this fighting spirit that allows us to fight and win our Nation’s battles.
The mission of the United States Marine Corps is made up of three promises: We make Marines, we win our Nation’s battles, and we develop quality citizens prepared to fight and win battles.
You don’t join the Marines-you become one, forged in the crucible of training aboard our recruit depots on Parris Island, South Carolina, and in San Diego, California, or through the dedication required of officer candidates at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. Beyond the physical requirements, aspiring Marines must prove they have the honor, courage, and commitment to face and defeat any obstacle.
Today, more than 180,000 enlisted Marines and 23,000 Marine Officers serve in active duty or reserve forces on bases and in communities around the world, proudly carrying with them the core values of the Marine Corps.

I turn 27 in one month. Im joining the Marines in less than 6 months. I've never trained so hard for anything in my life but I won't stop. Im gonna get that 300 pft, im gonna kick ass
Same brother! Welcome!
did you get it yet?
Imma be honest I didn’t realize the pft and the initial requirements were two different things that makes me feel a little better about my chances even though I’ve improved a lot over the last 6 months getting ready
Anyone can do it, doesn’t mean you should. Marine Corps sucks and doesn’t care about you, go join the Air Force or Coast Guard
@@johncalabria1607 I think they all suck if you choose to embrace only the bad, they can all be good if you only look for the good
@@shyowl3453 you in the corp yet? It’s not that bad. It just depends on who’s in charge. All branches have there own ass holes but being a marine is worth it. I graduated boot in March 12 2021. So far it’s good but I still have a long while to go. Hope you make it in your journey brother don’t let your readiness go to wast. Keep pushing bro.
@@JoseRamirez-ft4mn sadly no, I was a week from going to MEPS and getting all that rolling, I had been talking with a recruiter, working out every like 3 days (or more often when time allowed) and all that stuff, but suffice to say I wasn’t gonna work for who got elected on the 20th (if others wanted to then they are more than free to do so, not bashing just a difference of opinion), so I’ve ended up pursuing the route of a EMT and I’ve gotten my NREMT and been working, also I had a long time family pet get sick so I’ve been taking care of him, I really wish I could have enlisted as I had been preparing for it for a long time and not being able to really sucked for a good while (and still is) but it just didn’t seem that it was to be and as I’m already almost 23 it would be difficult to join in 4 years and even more so in 8 if it goes that way, I will continue to support The Marine Corps and the Military in general in anyway I can from the civilian side but it didn’t seem that I was supposed to enlist at least not yet, we will see what the future holds I suppose
Do you get kicked out if you can’t do this
I can't remember exactly what the minimum was in 1969 but our final fitness was to do 10 pullups or more, as many sit ups, squat thrusts, as many pushups, 50 foot rope climb, 3 mile run under 30 minutes. Maybe someone here has a better memory of the final fitness test. Semper Fi.
Man I love the Marines!
It's my favorite military organisation in the world!
I'm from France :)
Good thing I was a Marine in the 80's. Although I am working out now I'm not sure I'd ever run 3 miles that fast. Not sure if I could have done pull-ups but I did always max the flex armed hang & sit ups.
I see people getting scolded for 3mi in 21mins
These are not really that stringent. Any person under 50 who doesn't have a disease or some type of limiting past injury should be able to do these.
I haven’t exercise or nothing… I need to get in good shape. Cause I’m almost about to go to boot camp 😔
I’m trying to be a marine
I’m not doing anything with my life just working dead end jobs and very depressed and unmotivated for a year or two (cuz of the death of my brother and mom)
I’ve been running about 2.5 miles though every morning (I know I need to improve ) but yeah and I’ve been trying to work on my pull-ups and pushups and crunches, etc. I still needa take the asvab
I hope i can do it
My step father was a marine and so was my god father
We’ll see
goodluck man i’m trying to become one too hopefully we both get through it
Im not in the marines but im pretty sure they are phasing out situps and replacing them with the plank
@@ParkBarkbarkk Correct
wait you can do push-ups and planks now in place of pull-ups and crunches? what a world lol
For the push-ups the max score you can get is 70, and the plank is 4 minutes and 20 seconds for a 100
Yea push ups max is 70 I’m going in soon and can easily do a 5 minute plank just need to work on my pull ups and run time
Veteran here about to refocus.
The key is to break the barrier of physical fitness.
I like their physical fitness test but the promotion in the Marines is slower than the Army.
i have to work on my push ups and study hard but i 12 so that s a long time!!!!!
Work on Push-ups, Running long distances, and sit ups
Better start now because it will just get harder and harder after you join. (currently a Sgt of Marines)
Ryan Myers i Have the sergeant majors nephew train with us and he said he started training like a poolee since the sixth grade(Now almost through with high school). He stands out during our pft’s by a mile. Trust me you want to be that kinda guy
Just study the asvab book
I am glad i have the option to do push ups instead of pull ups bc i am dudu water at pull ups
I get that this is just the first step to be a marine but this looks easy af
Getting a max score for both PFT and CFT is no easy task. Obviously if you’re aiming for minimum or average and first class, it’s going to be quite a breeze but aiming for a max 300 for both event will take months of preparation. Everyone is different and has their weakness. Although, just because you can get a max score on these events doesn’t mean you can perform super well in the fleet, having a max score only gives you a potential idea that you may qualify for recon/MARSOC contracts. Good on you if you think you can pull through these events at maximum, 3/5 Kilo, infantry Marine here.
I agree this looks easy, im not trying to be a marine tho I just wanted to see what the physical requirements are
@@davidmiranda9227 "Looks" give it a real a shot and you will sing a different tune. Like fighting. Looks easy, until you get in there with a real deal fighter and you no longer know your ass bone from cheekbone.
@MOG0311 dude I was talking about the marine training. As far as fighting I'm not new to that
300 PFT rah!
Boot lol
Thanks for the info
Semper fi cant wait
Now we have to do planks instead of crunches
As a member of the US Army, it is good to see the other branches standards of physical readiness. The citizens of our nation places trust in each of us to maintain our physical fitness, in order to deploy, fight, and destroy the enemies of United States both foreign and domestic! Keep it up! HUA!
28-min 3/mile run ? Heck, it was 27-min or less when I was in
Yeah, that plank press must be new as well. It used to be crunches only on the PFT.
@@flanagamer we did sit-ups 80 in under 2-mins. Crunches ? I was in 1980-1988 searats mres, didn't arrive until late 83 or 84.
@@flanagamer They’re changing it in the following year where crunches won’t be an option but planks will be the new standard. The logic behind it is that planks activate more of your core than crunches. Heck, the Marine Corps as a whole wants to move towards a similar test to that of the ACFT the army has.
@@victordanielcatalan1808 harder for lazy ass Marines to cheat on the planks too. Pretty much everybody cheated the crunches to get the max score.
@@flanagamer Hahaha, yeah it’s kinda embarrassing to not get at least a hundred crunches. Even my fatass could max out on crunches because they were extremely easy to to do.
Yeaaaaa!
Ah yes, the crunches:BEGIN!! 1 2 3 5 6 10 30 50 51 55...mutters....61 62 63...rah! grumble...aand 100!! Congrats Marine you got max score 👍😀
Haha I leave august 16 to boot and I can’t do 100 crunches but ima cheat on them
@@StvMdz Hey hey , Courage , Honor , Commitment
I am 12, and my dream is to be in the military corps or anything like that one day. My dad was a cop, my brother served in the Marines for 4 years, and now he is a sheriff deputy (I think) at (not saying.) And I was wondering if I should start training now, and maybe in a year or so starting airsoft? It is my dream to serve the country, and I want to be the best I can for when I am able to enlist.
Semper Fidelis Marines.
It is ridiculous to have different physical fitness standards for women than men it should be the same across the board and whoever can meet the scores makes it and if they can't they don't
There are a few Females in who are monsters and they can hang. But yes, the majority of Female Marines aren't even in the same universe as the Male Marines. If they held the Women to the same standards as the men, the Corps would literally have a recruitment crisis and there would be an insane amount of empty jobs. I don't have an issue with their standards as I understand the genetics, they are not as strong and as fast as us. But the problem comes when they start trying to get into combat roles like Infantry. That's when you need to be able to do what we can do physically. Very few can. If I get shot and need to be carried or drag. Your ass better be able to do it as fast as anyone of us would be able to otherwise you are now a liability and will get the rest of us killed.
@@MOG0311 I doubt as a matter a fact I guarantee there is not a single female on the planet that belongs in any special operations of any branch of the military because none of them can pass the course they can't even pass the basic physical entrance exam with the current standards for males so no they have no business being in, this country has become disgustingly weak and no longer has standards the test for special operations is what it is because they are " special the best of the best" there is a standard whether you are male or female pass the same test and your in if not your out simple.
I’m basically a crunched up soda can used as a bacon grease container but I can shoot.
Pretty sure makes have to run the 3 miles under 24 minutes now.
Ohh, yes very good
Does it matter which type of pull up you do? I suck at dead-hang pull ups.
If it's not full range of motion it won't count bud. Gotta rely on your back instead of ur arms to get up
Your back? Never did a pull up using my back to get up. Just gonna see if that's physically possible rq.
Edit: I am now smarter than when I made this comment and realized pull ups literally involve back strength. Plus am pro now. 😎💪🏽
Fuck I got to get in shape luckily I got 4 years
You can get ready for special forces with 4 years man
@@bigpickle1567 deadass i got one month
@@mjay5311 I wish u the best of luck, you can do it man!
Lol just realized the month already passed since u commented 🤣 hope all went well
Man, they have lowered the bar since the early 90s.
It was literally easier 😂
Physically, no. Marines are in the best shape they have been. Once you get to the fleet it's a different ball game today. The roughness that the DI's could hit you with in Boot Camp in turn making a more viscous and mean Marine has indeed gotten softer.
mad respect to these guys
i have asthma, scoliosis, and pectus excavatum BUT, my asthma has gone away and i’ve had no symptoms since i was like 10, i didn’t even know i had scoliosis until i had x-rays done on me last year and it does affect me in any way physically and medically, and i have had no problems with my pectus excavatum. i’m very fit for my age (16) i go to the gym whenever i can and i eat clean and i can run fast and walk normally. would i still be able to enlist even with the conditions i listed?
You should be good. As long as the asthma went away before 13. If you're in Good shape and can pass the pft. You should be fine. Also the scoliosis shouldn't be a problem if it's less than 21 degrees
@@hoodieso8858Well I officially go to Meps next Thursday hoping for the best man.
What happens if you don't run the 3 miles within 27 minutes?
The beatings will continue until run times improve.
You’ll lose points, each test has points
If its not the final PFT, nothing will happen. U will just get extra attention (u will be running a lot more). If it is the final PFT u will be held back until u can pass. U shouldnt fail it, especially the final one
No body leaves the Island doing it in 27 or 28 minutes man. If you stick it out in boot camp, you will probably leave doing it in 23-25.
This Promotional Video is Absolutely laughable. There are No Standards if they are not *Equal.*
