    I've gotten some awesome deals on Red Wing boots because people always buy the wrong size, or they don't want to wait for them to break in
    if they've been broken in already I won't buy them because I want them to conform to my feet.....not someone elses

    • @iamkeeler
      @iamkeeler  Před 3 lety

      100% correct. The old and more worn the boots, the less likely they are to fit. Best deal I ever got was 40 for a pair of brand new pair from the heritage collection. I'd need to look up the exact model.

      @@iamkeeler I just got a pair of Beckman 9016 for $95 at a second hand store......not even broken in. I'm in Canada so that's $71.50 US
      they're awesome. wearing them right now to break them in
      I bought copper Iron Rangers for $220 CAD
      I bought Beckman 9014's for $200......but that was my mistake. I didn't keep them because they were uncomfortable. I later regretted selling them and paid full price for a pair.....$400 CAD
      I now know that you have to break them in before they get comfortable. if you're going to do a lot of walking they're pretty hard on the feet though

      @@iamkeeler I always check craigslist and kijiji.....there's some great deals on there. just finding your exact size is the problem
      I just can't see myself paying full price again for a pair of boots. $400 is the most I've ever paid for any pair of shoes

    very good advice about the cork, it's also true with the leather insole.

    Another mention would be whether on not they are factory firsts or seconds. At least I like to know when purchasing a used pair of Red Wing Heritage boots. The small punched hole in the tongue for determining.

    Got my brand new Iron Rangers from a store that displayed them. Came without box, but brand new: $260. Bought a used pair of Red Wing Wabasha chukkas off eBay for $75. In good shape, and very happy with them. I say yes!

    • @iamkeeler
      @iamkeeler  Před 3 lety

      Some of the used ones are an amazing deal! I've found it to be hit or miss but in general if they haven't been worn too much you are safe, the more worn the shoes are, the more likely they are to have molded to the previous owners foot.

  • @Orlanzepol123
    @Orlanzepol123 Před 4 lety

    Good tips. The reason for the molding to someone’s foot was the reason why I never would consider buying used Heritage boots

    • @iamkeeler
      @iamkeeler  Před 4 lety +2

      As long as you get ones that haven't been worn much it can be a deal. But if it looks worn on the outside the inside will match. I just got a pair of iron rangers that were warn but I wasn't thinking. The insole is so warped I can't wear them. I'll be messing with then to see what I can do to flatten or use a super thin insole.

    If you employ proper cobbler, they can always replace cork layer

    • @iamkeeler
      @iamkeeler  Před 4 měsíci

      Completely right. All the problems I listed are fixable if you have a good local cobbler. Unfortunately where I'm at, it's a dying profession and there isn't one in my city.

    • @vladyslav4
      @vladyslav4 Před 4 měsíci

      @@iamkeeler where do you live? In my country (Ukraine) Goodyear welted construction is super rare, so almost no cobblers know how to fix it. But I sent it to a different city to a cobbler - enthusiast. And he fixed them awesomely. If you live in US, I am sure you can also mail boots to other city.

    • @iamkeeler
      @iamkeeler  Před 4 měsíci

      @vladyslav4 US about an hour and half away from the red wing factory. (They do a sale every year that's great for getting new pairs). And there are a few good cobblers you can mail it too. With the prices here, if you go that route it can end up being more expensive than buying new.

    You should check if original owner used insole cause some do because leather insole is harder on feet. Got some moc toe where original owner used foam insoles and his foot impression is not on the shoe.

      Just got some bick4 a little while ago and it's nice. What's the foot bed workaround? I ended up taking the really bad pair and dieing then black. Just need to edit the video.

    • @michaelmenard8913
      @michaelmenard8913 Před 4 lety +1

      @@iamkeeler you can and we have on cowboy boots. Mixed 50/50 bick4 and water and poured it in the boot to just cover the footbed, .250 ? Quarter inch maybe? Tilt boot so footbed its level. Let it sit overnight, pour it out and slather it all over inside and outside, and just save what's left.
      You in effect rehydrate the footbed, then we would put it on a boot anvil and pound on the sole of boot, kind of smashing the footbed flat again. You can feel it working with a leather sole by just running your hand inside. Now the issue with a thicker sole would be the amount of pressure you would be applying,because of the added thickness of the sole. Ymmv
