    Hey everyone, I'd love to hear from you all about this :) Do medical school rankings affect your decision to go there or not? Do you have any questions at all or would you like me to follow up on this video comparing the schools more in depth - definitely feel free to let me know. And good luck with the application cycle!

      Love the video idea and concept. As a medical student in Hungary I can definitely verify that ranking does matter, it does up hold a certain standard for the university to maintain. All I want to add to this is don’t be afraid to venture out into the world! Good medical schools are out there đŸ’ȘđŸŒ.

      @@H_MDstrength Thanks for the feedback my friend - I'm sure that rankings manage to a certain extent, especially when comparing schools outside of North America. The effect does diminish when comparing quality of students at UBC vs. Toronto vs. McMaster for example. All the best

    You are right, the school that accepts you is the right one. The name and ranking are just that, but you'll still get a quality education at a school that didn't make the list.
    You get great doctors from schools not listed. You also get horrible doctors from the schools listed abd they use the name of the school they went to as a way to shut you up.
    My GP went to University of Saskatchewan and he's great!

    10.8% chance to get into Oxford isnt 'almost impossible'. If you applied to a job with only 9 other applicants you'd think that was great odds.

    I don't put too much stock into these sorts of rankings. Anecdotally, one of the best physicians I've ever met graduated from the same top tier med school as me, and one of the worst physicians I've ever met graduated from the same top tier med school as me too! I suspect there's more variety in terms of quality of physician in the same med school (intra) than there is among or between other med schools (inter). Residency makes a bigger difference in terms of the quality (or lack thereof) of physicians. đŸ˜·

    I am trying to decide between Mac and U of T. U of T does rank higher and I like the class schedule at U of T. However, before finalizing, I want to know class schedule at Mac. I don't know any Mac medical student. Could you please help me get Mac class schedule? Or help me connect with current Mac medical student? This will really help me make informed decision. Thank you so much!!

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  Pƙed 4 měsĂci +1

      Unfortunately not! When it comes to specialty programs, we're talking about such a niche population of people that no major corporation (to my knowledge) ranks them. What you want to do instead imo is rotate through in medical school and ask the residents for their feedback about the different programs.
      Good luck!

      @nxtgenmd  Pƙed 5 měsĂci +3

      A big part of this may also be as a consequence of the fact that the US has 192 medical schools as of 2024 - significantly higher than most other countries. Physicians in the US also tend to get paid more than any other country in the world (on average). This historically has attracted some very respected physicians or in the very least - has helped prevented them from leaving the US. Eventually, these physicians tend to get involved with medical education which does drive the quality of education to increase.
      Multifactorial for sure, but a great case study of competition driving innovation :)

      I believe that this is an error with their website since searching for "McGill times higher education medical school" on google does have them at 26 on their list. www.timeshighereducation.com/student/best-universities/best-universities-medicine-degrees-canada?cmp=1
      Interestingly enough though, Macleans' list (a Canadian publication) had McGill at number 1 in Canada in 2024 (with U of T in the number 2 spot) but their ranking criteria does seem to be different than the world ranking publications: education.macleans.ca/feature/canadas-best-medical-doctoral-universities-rankings-2024/

      @@nxtgenmd this JMP program only accepts 16 students per cycle and catering to students who want to have a master’s degree (MS) in the Health and Medical Sciences at Berkeley Public Health. @@nxtgenmd if anything, I'm only questioning the validity of the ranking and their methodology. Since they didn't correctly rank McGill as you have pointed out, and also this mistake of listing UC Berkeley instead of UCSF (you can ask any doctor in California, and 99% would confidently tell you that UC Berkeley itself doesn't have a medical school, and UCSF has also been ranked in top 5 best medical schools for the last decade) đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž
