yep for sure i keep myself to myself and try put a positive view on the stuff i film and watch my language cos my mum wouldnt like me swearing!

Apart from morris dancing we dont have a "culture" of our own.

So its the only place where we dont have an accent either.

Many years ago I painted a Barrel top on a red lake base. I did an OK painting job but nothing near as accomplished as John. Someone bought it and took in away on a low loader . When they took it off the bed they let it drop and the wheels collapsed. Galling really as even with my lesser quality painting it was a lot time put in even in the wheels and spokes. I hope it was restored . Wonderful lining and picking out the carving. On the more simple wagon you sort of have to make it up as there is less carving to inspire the the curlycues.

ha ha cheers mate tbf our man tysons done a lot for travellers just from being successfull and not denieing his heritage .I struggle with my channell as i only interested in showing a posative side i even try keep the swearing to a minimum (which is hard ) my videos are basic as i do them myself and only have time to get one a week up max ! but for every cool comment like yours it makes me want to push forward thanks very much for your views and comments means a lot

nice video Reuben, lovely work there from your uncle there...would love to see more from him in the future.. as a young boy i worked for the late John Pickett.. a renowned restorer and painter from Dorset....you or uncle may have known his work.
great memories learning from him, such a great craft, i really miss that kind of work, like your uncle..its hard to to appreciate the work involved in these magnificent wagons, unless you've seen them being made up close, by great craftsman.

Lovely work. The attention to detail is phenomenal. I’ve always loved the older style of carvings, gilding and bright colors with the lining / pin-striping.

I've been so intrigued by these wagons. What I can't figure out is how they stowed the stairs while in transit. Those large curved steps are beautiful. They would take to a lot of space. So how did they do it?

Wow! Your uncle isn't looking for an apprentice is he? The man really needs to get his own channel with tips and tricks for us mere mortals who would like to paint at a higher level than finger painting.

How you going lads I made a wagon from scratch and painted them and I learn straight from this channel I don't know what I'd do without ye I'm making a flat top now I have good wheels 🛞 and spring but I can't find a good one to copy can you please do a vid with a nice one cause I didn't know how they look like underneath please if you can I'd love to come over and learn a bit from ye

Was it so that the travelers mostly painted green and the Romney Chell painted red. Wow so beutifull. You are right a lot a posh rats make thereselves what they are and tell their life stories over the internet. Raw raw raw. Keep up the good work. Cushta back.

It looks like the doors have a special hinge that lifts the door as it swings out so the bottom won't rub on the floor? Would these be custom made hinges?
i dont think so top door has a lip that catchs bottom no special hinge
@@reubenleveridge5175 Thanks, I was looking at the lower door. It looks like the barrel of the hinge is cut on an angle so it would lift as it swings. Can you tell if the wall with the door is plumb? It really looks like it tips out a bit. The book I have has very good scale drawings and shows it there too. Thanks, your work is amazing!
I’m looking for advice on the best type of paint brush for scroll work on a wagon. Restoring a bow too but new to painting them. Thanks
no idea!! there are a lot of good synthetics out there best to try a few different cheap ones and see what suits!!! makes not important

not sure what you mean exactly they are traditionally built up from flat carts stud work up and boarded from the inside

John said that unit weighed about a ton. How is it that with today's 'superior' materials, you couldn't come close to this size and detail without twice the weight. I know a modern road trailer would weigh a bit more than a wooden frame but a modern stove should weigh less than a cast iron stove from a hundred years ago. Insulation weighs nothing in the grander scheme of things, so what happened? Nails and hinges heavier today?
bill wrights where quiet small vardos the mona lisa weighs around 2/5 ton very large reading wagon the bill wrights fully loaded with kids water etc prob weigh around ton and half ( also depends how big your missus is ha ha ) but pull with good single horse and tracer readings need 2 horses min and a tracer

Really need some help. I know that a lot of gold leaf is used, but can you advise me what gold paint you would recommend for other areas, also what brushes will I be needing. This is a first project for me and I'm restoring a 3/4 sized wagon

I like the simpler ones too, too much detail, especially inside, makes it feel too closed in.
