- macmost.com/e-2807 You can use a personal automation to schedule a text message to be sent at a specific time with your iPhone. There are a few catches, though.

Great explanation, I don't know why they won't just add the feature like Android has.
Right!!! I’m starting to see that iPhone makes things so much more complicated than Samsung/Android powered devices! When I had my Samsung, I didn’t have to go through all of this, lol!
it's like 2023, and Apple can't create a "schedule send" capability but they can create an animal emoji based on your image? The schedule send is already available for emails and MS teams chat.
Or even group chats, it ridiculous😡
And yet we’re all still customers. Me too, I’m no better 🤦🏾♂️
Exactly!!!
As much as these damn iphones cost, this is something apple should have as an option In text message.
Thank you for sharing. Scheduled text messages is one of the things I miss from my android phones.
Yes! I hate that IPhone won’t allow it like my Droid did. Maybe I can use this option successfully enough I won’t feel like I need to switch back to Droid. I’ve been considering it simply bcuz of this one feature!
Go get the new galaxy 😂
I found this to be very useful! I appreciate you sharing this. I recently switched from Android to iPhone. So far, I'm loving the iPhone, but it's been crazy. I appreciate you showing me the app and helping me see other possibilities besides scheduling texts.
A very useful and informative video tutorial today! This was all new to me. Thank you, Gary! 👏🏻❤️
Thanks mate, some reason can’t just hit “daily” but, choosing monthly and picking the day is the only way it would work. 👍
One of the best explanation simple and at a good pace unlike others I have seen.
Great video Gary, I'm finally giving this a try tonight. I know this video is a year old already and some of the updates have made things just a bit different than shown in this video, but I was able to make it thru with your help. I watch almost every video you put out, I have loved using iPhone and especially the MacBook since my old windows desktop shot craps. I'll never go back to Windows. Reading some comments here from this particular video, lol, can't believe the amount of Android users who watch your Apple/iPhone videos, lol! They sure trash the iPhone in the comments. Thanks for all you do to help us Apple people out and keep us up to date.
Excellent video Mac Most; articulate and to the point. Keep up the great work!
Thank you Gary! I Noticed your watery eyes and your voice a little hoarse!, hope you feel better soon!
Me too. Hopefully nothing more serious than allergies. Whatever the case: I hope Gary feels better soon!
This is great! I can think of a few things I'd like to schedule. Thanks for the tip.
absolutely brilliant, I didn't know it there , your channel is absolutely fantastic and get straight to the point . One of the best I keep in my favourites list . big thanks . 😊😊
Great explanation, couldn’t have been explained better 🙌🏾
This is incredibly useful! Thank you!
Very detailed explanation! I appreciate that
thank you ❤ super helpful
Thx man. Rly helpful. We need more people like him who dedicate their CZcams career to noobs like me. 👍
Excellent! Thanks Gary!
Thank you! Very helpful
Thank you! Been wondering how to do this. Seems like a lot of steps for sure. Hopefully Apple will add it like Android has that is so user friendly.
Thank you for the info. This really helped me out.
Tysm!! So helpful!
Great Hidden tip, thanks for sharing your post👍
Appreciate the video!
I love the way you've thought outside the box on this!
Instead of having to remember to disable or delete the shortcut, maybe one could put a "delete this shortcut" step at the end of the shortcut-although I haven't tested it and I don't know whether it would be "allowed" to delete itself like that, especially while it's running.
It can't self-delete. But you could add a Reminder to delete it as the last step.
At the end of this you said you need to remind yourself to remove the repeat on it. I added an extra step to mine to take care of that - figured we're automating, let's automate..
After it sends the message, I also have it set a reminder to Turn off Msg Notification .
Add Turn off Msg Notification to Tasks with No Alert.
But since you can't set a date/time stamp to a notification (I think) via an automation script, I went into the "No Alert" conditions and turned on the "Flag" option, so it shows up in the flagged group.
Hi Gary - this was so helpful. I just switched from Samsung to Iphone because I use a Macbook but I got so stressed trying to schedule a text message - which is easily done on a Samsung. tx for your help in explaining procedure on iphone which unfortunately is just not as efficient as Samsung is on this. I schedule all the time as I work late and time messages to go to colleagues early in the morning. So I am disappointed with the catches on iphone. I will have to remember to delete automation. Any way over all your help was great and got me out of a blackhole!!!
Wow! 👏🏾
Purple Lego RC
Thank you
I have to send a text tmr at 7am to check in for work that I’m alive and well it’s 4 am rn Thankyou so much now I can just sleep in 😂
Thanks this helped a lot
Thank ya 💜
Thank you so much.
Great Video
Great explanation of feature. Off the the races.
THANK YOU
Oh yeah I’m definitely using this to call out of work next Friday
This has made my life so much easier! My husband gets up 1 hour earlier than me and NEVER remembers to let the chickens out! Now he will!!!! Thanks for this video!!
Thanks bunches
thank you
appreciate the video
This new years is gonna be crazy when 300 people get an appreciation text all at the strike of midnight
You’re amazing :D
Thank u
God bless u thank u
Very useful video, thank you. Quick question that I wondered if you could answer for me please. On these kinds of videos, you show a read circle on the video of what you are touching on your iPhone screen. Is there a setting on the iPhone that you can enable to show this?
czcams.com/video/e52DMbycFgA/video.html
Thaaaaaank yooou 👍👍
Thanks! „Yearly“ would be cool. then i wouldn‘t keep forgetting to send those birthday messages…
Thanks for the video but Why is it so complicated just to schedule a text message??? ☹️
Thanks this helped what if you want to send a different message everyday like a motivational quote to a kid can you say set up 5 different messages?
I suppose you could.
Perfect! My phone will send the messages tomorrow at 7am while I am sleeping 😴
Thank god for this... were on OS 17 and cant schedule a text but can do loads of other crap. I really wish apple listened instead of just doing their own thing.
Thanks for the video but I do not understand why this is not a feature
Hi, I am having great difficulty understanding the child safety features on iPAD. Can you do a show on how to use those?
Have you checked out this: support.apple.com/guide/ipad/set-up-parental-controls-ipad02e876e6/15.0/ipados/15.0
@@macmost Thank for the suggestion. I will look at it. I suspect tho that I will be writing again.
One thing you did not cover. IF i add multiple people to the text will it send it individually or as a group??
Man, the hoops you have to go through on iPhone just to do something so simple that you can do in a matter of seconds on an iPhone.
You said everything about the iPhone right at the beginning... "there's a catch."
I just switched from android and used this that feature a lot. Not having it on the iPhone is by far the worst for me. I’m often up very early and send messages for later in the morning. Can’t believe it
It seems easier to just set a reminder with an notification to send a message and copy and paste that message from the notes of the reminder into the message you want to send for the person.
Can you schedule send an item from the photo library? A picture or video?
Not really, no.
I set mine to daily instead of monthly. Then add repeat as an action in the next menu. Then put 1 time, then end repeat. This is a bunch of steps to send a one time only text on an iPhone. But at least you can do it. I like the Samsung version way better. But at least we can still do it on iOS.
Cool
This will be handy for sending messages to my kids and make sure I’m not sending them during class time.
Gary I think you missed the part about actually typing the message meant to auto send. Does the message text replace “MESSAGE” between the quotes?
Yes. Try it and see.
@@macmost It worked! I was the 1st to wish a friend Happy Birthday this morning :)
Thank you sir!
Is there a shortcut (advanced, I assume) to turn off "Enable this Automation" ?
Not in any way I can think of offhand.
This is probably what I miss the most from android something so simple they could just add in a update and you have to do all this but oh well team iPhone now so I have to get used to it
Although the menu buttons on my Iphone 14 Pro Max arently exactly the same since this was 11 months ago, Ive followed every step and it does everything except actually send. It even puts "test" in the imessage box but doesn't send automatically. I've selected "run immediately". Any idea what I'm missing here" Maybe Apple changed this in a recent update?
Not sure where you could be going wrong. Missed as small part of a step maybe?
I tested it & it didn’t work. I tried 3 times, no luck. I’m on an iPhone 11, so slightly different but should still work 🤷🏼♀️
I spend months at a time in Asia. Sending delayed text messages to US contacts is often critical so you do not wake people up. Android makes this so, so simple. BTW I have 2 MacBooks & an iPad but still use an Android phone for many reasons.
The create personal automation is no whereto be found on my shortcut. This was a year ago it must have change the way you do it
Go to the top level of the Shortcuts app and you'll see "Automations" at the bottom the toolbar.
At 2:11 into your video you turn on “Notify when run.” How do I get notified when it has run?
A system notification. Those things that appear like Reminders, apps letting you know things, etc.
@@macmost Thank you.
I plan on using this to send to my children for future in case something were to happen to me. Wouldn’t that be cool to get a message from your momma and she isn’t even here anymore?
I've tried this before and it won't send the text without me me 'authorizing' it to run. This is the case even when I disable the 'Ask before running' toggle. If my phone is locked I'll get a notification that an automation is attempting to run and I have to click on it to run it. Any ideas?
Did you turn off Ask Before Running like I show in this video?
Does it send it out text if you’re phone is locked
It should. Test it and see.
How do I send a photo with the message
You won't be able to do that with this technique.
There is a repeat action under message just put the repeat to 0 there you go! One message!
I followed all these instructions yesterday for a message to be sent today at 8am and it didn’t send. What am I doing wrong?
I mention some issues with this method in the video. Maybe your situation fits one of them?
I have run 4 tests and 3 of them successfully sent, but the very first one I attempted didn’t. So far, I have a 75% success rate. I’ll keep tabs on my success rate. I didn’t do anything different on the three successful attempts except change the scheduled time of day. I appreciate your video.
What the ef I swear I saw schedule a iMessage in the app as a new feature months ago, iOS 16? iOS 17??????
Maybe you are thinking of Mail.
Then you have to remember to turn it off. What a racquet!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I can text all my girls in the morning now at once thank you bro
there is no ask before running option on mine
Depends on the actions you have selected.
I know another great way to schedule a text. Sell your iPhone and get a pixel. The pixel has been able to do this for years.
Is it possible to schedule a text through shortcuts that include a GIF?
Should be able to. Look at the info for the Send Messages action and it mentions images.
Can you add a group chat?
I don't think so. But experiment and see.
The don’t ask for run doesn’t come after I press the next
Which version of iOS?
@@macmost it’s a IPhone XR
@@user-hj4mb1uy7f But which version of iOS?
Damn this was 20x easier on android
I sure hope apple adds yearly as a repeat so if people want to use this automation to send a happy birthday or happy anniversary message won’t be so many steps
Unfortunately there are no send delay messages shortcuts out there that actually work and I’m just to ignorant to make the shortcut so hopefully apple wakes up
Is there a way to send a scheduled message to a group chat? I couldn’t add my existing group chat I guess because it’s not under recipients 😢
Probably not.
Why does it need to be so complicated 😆 they should let us do it from within our messaging settings. That would be better
I get as far as the last step but my phone says done there is no next option to set don't ask I don't get it this is the 15 pro max
Does it work anyway? If not then make sure you have followed each step.
@@macmost it only works if when the text is scheduled it pops upon screen and u have to tap to send. I’ve got 2 phones 15 pro max and s23+ I go step by step as watching vid on Samsung just doesn’t give me the next option to run automatically it goes straight to done.
@@NHWilderness So if you select the Automation you built now, and then look at the options, do you see the choice at the tip for Run After Confirming vs Immediately?
@@macmost I put a screen recording of what I’m doing on my channel if u want to see what I’m doing wrong
@@NHWilderness At the end you see a list if Automations. You just have the one there. Tap it. Then at the top of the next screen is what you want.
This is so tedious apple! why not just have a feature where you can hold the send button then an option would pop out to schedule message sending???
Can you use an automation to turn off the automation? Lol
I had an Android phone like 10 years ago. With the android back then every time I wanted to send a text message the option of ‘delayed sent’ was there every time as default. A one-time-send function. It was a simple action. Why haven’t iPhone made this like yesterday is really weird I think. The way you showed in your video is not really desirable. Way too many things to do - and even later undo. Are you sure there’s no other simple way to do this?
Tx 😊
Dumb I have to through all this instead of just having it as a setting on my Messages app. Android FTW I hate my new I phone
I can’t believe this I just got an iPhone and it’s so much stuff missing and has been done wrong that it makes me really believe people are brainwashed 🤯
With all the money that people pay for an iPhone Apple should have the scheduling text features that Androids have years ago.
😂I wasted $1600 on this iphone 14. Cant even do a basic task like that without being extra complicated
I have a scheduled message sent by a different method.
ONE-TIME SETUP
* I made an alarm without any repeat on it. Let’s label it, “Dog Food Alert”.
* I made an automated Shortcut that is triggered when the alarm stops, and sends my wife the text message, “Pick up the dogs’ food.”
ACTION
* When their food is getting low, I’ll change the alarm time accordingly which turns it on.
* Then, when the alarm goes on, all I do is press “Stop” on my screen and the message is sent.
* Everything is fine until the next time they will need a fresh supply. All I do then is to change the alarm time again.
Don’t have to remember every month to turn it off.
Note: My message isn’t really about our German Shepherds’ food.
- BG
This is a lot to do. I’d rather just set a timer.
This is often the better choice, yes.
