- ‘Be Here Now’ was released on 21st August 1997 and followed the success of ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’, Oasis’ biggest selling album and the record that broke them globally. The previous summer, Oasis played to more than 250,000 people over two nights at Knebworth, with an astounding 2.5 million people applying for tickets. Released at midnight on Thursday 21st August 1997, at a time when most albums were released on Monday, ‘Be Here Now’ sold a staggering 400,000 copies on the first day in the UK, with 663,400 sales in just 3 days. It was No.1 in fifteen countries and remained at the top of the UK Album Chart for 4 weeks. To date, it has the most album sales in the first seven days of release in UK Official Chart history, and has sold over 8 million copies globally.

The songs are there. Some of his best melodies and some of Liam's best vocals. It's just over-produced and too long but I still love it. Great summer drinking album.
I think Noel’s dislike for BHN stems partly from knowing that it could have and should have been better. Like maybe shortening some tracks, less overproduction, using some earlier B-sides etc. I still really like it, but more quality control may have helped.
Christ, I agree 100%. What a great goddamned album and " I Hope, I Think, I Know " is an AWESOME drinking song.
You'll never forget my naayaame!!
Davies Productions My Big Mouth man…
Hell even some of their B-sides to that album are great too.
It's a good album, just overly produced in some areas. Still has some of their best songs on it.
I came back to this album on Thursday and Friday after quite a few years away from it. Trying to put words to describe this album is very difficult. One thing that struck me - it's just beautiful chaos. Its supposed to be that long and it's supposed to have all the weird noises and effects. The musicianship is effing brilliant and kicks ass. That drum intro on 'Dya know what I mean', the punk of 'My Big mouth, and the dirty Stones-ish blues of 'Fade in out' as amazing examples but all within the Oasis sound. I'd even argue that the Foo Fighters made a career on something like 'I hope, I think, I know'! It was an insane moment in time. You can argue about whether it's good or bad but it was part of the Oasis phenomenon and it was really the end after that. They became a brand then. Music doesn't have these crazy moments anymore it seems. Everything in popular culture now is a bit bland and boring. These were truly exciting, seat of your pants, making it up as you go along moments which can make someone's life. I'm glad I went away from it because I can now enjoy it for what it was.
Overproduced? Too long? This album is just beyond the standards. It makes its so great!
I love that album. Be here now is always my favorite
I absolutely love that there is no dislikes
That did it!
never clicked on notification this fast
This album rules Noel!! You gotta know your fans love it!
I was 14 when this album came out and I thought it was fucking amazing! Brings back allot of memories of that summer when I listen to it again.
I love most of Be Here Now and its huge over the top production. That some of the album hasn't been played to death by radio over the years (besides the singles) has helped keep it fresh. But some of the songs needed to be shorter and the weaker songs replaced by some great b-sides (Stay Young, The Fame).
Me neither! The liner notes on The Masterplan b-sides comp said Noel just didn't like the song.
I remember buying this when it first came out in 97 98? and it never left my cassette player I was always playing, for me that tells you if something's good if you keep on playing it
I would've liked to have been a spider on the wall when Marilyn Manson was talking to Noel about the album
Best Oasis album ever IMO! o/"
Its an album way overblown initially that has become underrated now. Its a 9/10.
Be here now is a brilliant album. Maybe a bit overproduced but brilliant none the less
This album is Epic!!! Can’t tell You if it’s there best album but It’s F’n as good as it gets.
Classic album but I love them all 😊
This album had some of Noel's best ideas. If it were mixed then like the 2016 Do you know what I mean rethink then it would have set competed with the first two albums for sure.
Biblical guy?
haha lol
Come on! Give us the full interview!
Be Here Now is the greatest album ever released by a rock band, period. That shit was my childhood.
That's just not true though is it 🤣
It's really really not. Some great songs on there but it's overproduced and far too long. A product of its time, really!
Your childhood doesn't define objective standard in music quality.
I agree with Liam, still a top record.
Fade in-out Is a great song
Marilyn Manson going on for over 72 minutes about Be Here Now is the most Marilyn Manson thing I've ever heard about him doing.
Exactly!!
where is Hazed
still waiting
adoro!
I reckon It could’ve sold 20 million copies if they cut the songs and made stay young not a b side
Musically I'd say the album is a triumph. People say it's over-produced, personally I disagree. They aimed for big production and they got it. For me, what lets the album down are Noel's lyrics. It's a shame he took his eye off that side of things, because with insightful and meaningful lyrics, this would be a bonafide classic IMHO.
Be here now is oasis's best album.
The bloke needs to accept that they made a good record.
He should say these words for all the shitty albums that came later except the last one. “Be Here Now” is absolutely a brilliant album.
Standing On The Shouder Of Giants
Heathen Chemistry
Don't Believe The Truth
These albuns are better than Dig Out Your Soul
Ayoooo heathens chemistry is fooking amazing
Dbtt is a great album.... agree with HC. SOTSOG is just average, great b sides but a mediocre album
It has some flaws: It's Monotonous, over-produced and the songs are too long. Other than that it's alright. It has some quality songs: Do you Know What I Mean, Magic Pie, Don't Go Away, Stand by Me, All Around the World, etc.
Magic Pie is a quality song, never laughed so much, yeah, legend song ha-ha
Andrey Ryazanov Go and listen to that song live and come back! you be laughing then.
if that album were half the length, if every last song (with the possible exception of _Fade In/Out)_ was cut down to about a half its length, it would've gone down way better.
it's just on and on and on and on and on, repeating, repeating, repeating. wall of white noise.
it's a mad cocaine party that nobody else was invited to, but the songs are undeniable in spots. _Don't Go Away_ is one of their truest moments.
nice pizza noel. my fav album to
euahuehaue percebi agora que eu li isso!
e ainda tenho certeza que ele encolheu os braços porque ele percebeu também
Where can I see this entire interview?
This seems quite recent, they will probably upload chunks of it every now and then.
The entire interview is posted on the OasisVevo channel!
Who was using their phone while they recorded this
I would love a remix of Be Here Now where the most overlong parts are cut and its produced a bit more like NG's rethink of D'you Know What I Mean? The songs are there and they are quite incredible but the production and length makes the album repetitive and drags it down.
Very good point. Usually an artist shouldn't get involved messing with what is already finalized, but since words and composition remain intact then I'd say ok.
Be here now isn’t my favourite album (2nd favourite). However all the songs are fantastic. I love that there are long songs and I don’t think it being long is a bad thing. I love that it’s long. If you don’t wanna listen to it all because it’s too long then don’t listen to it all.
It was their best album! Give a fuck what Noel says - what's the story morning glory was their most commercially successful album, definitely maybe seems to be their most legendary album - but this one was their best! For me anyway! X fuck what people say! X
NOOOEEEEELLLL
Hahhahaha It is good because it is the most spontaneous album. It is not planned. And the most complex of all. You could almost make progessivo rock without being progressive. It's a great hardrock album mixed with piscodelia. I think the best records of Oasis if you analyze well is STSOG and HeathenChimestry. But Be Here Now is a great party. And Owen Morris of work to do all the sound of the album is getting powerful genius. And the fact is that Noel does not like how he was. At the time of Be Here Now. He dropped the drugs and changed a lot. But ... the best thing is that it is still there alive and producing new things. You are forgiven! Be here Now is the fact that you can be better than the Beatles. Now the world has two best band in music history. Beatles and Oasis. Thank you very much! I love your music Noel! PS: But you never did anything better than Quadrophenia. Neither the Beatles did nothing better than Quadrophenia.
Heathen Chemistry?! On the flip side, you're bang on with Quadrophenia.
_"The album is good because I decide that I know the musicians who made it worked in a spontaneous way. I don't actually care about the songs on it. I just want to show that I have access to magic information."_
madferit! And I've beat Hazed once again. RKIDDDD
As you weren’t NG X
isn't it bibli... oh wait
biblical
What Be Here Now shoud´ve been...
1. Aquiesce
2. Dýa know what I mean
3. Listen Up
4.Stand By Me
5. Don´t Go Away
6. Stay Young
7. Half the World Away
8. Talk Tonight
9. It´s getting better man
10. The Masterplan
Yeah I agree on ditching Magic Pie, and adding Stay Young, which I think has that spirit of the first two albums which Noel struggled to replicate from this album onwards.
If you watch Right Here Right Now, a BBC documentary made when this album came out, Be Here Now and It's getting better man sound brilliant when performed in the studio without all the production, and Stand By Me is done as an acoustic ballad, which I actually think sounds better than on the album. You can watch the doc on Vimeo.
Ultimately though, I still think the songwriting was missing a little bit of the magic which saw Oasis climb to the top so quickly. Something else happened though, which really highlighted the flaws of Be Here Now.
The Verve dropped Urban Hymns a month afterwards, and the quality of songwriting and production blew Be Here Now out of the water - it was so superior. Noel must have been secretly a bit gutted about the timing, even though he was pleased for his mates.
HAHA I love that he gets some upsetted BHN fans asking WHYY?? I could be one of them too. Class record 5/5. Don't give a fuck what anyone else says about it. I love how Liam still loves that record.

His opinion is wrong . It is the best album. Manson was right
I've never been a massive Oasis fan, but I think Be Here Now is their best album by miles. A couple of duff tracks maybe, All Around the World is still pretty naff. The accusations that's it's "over produced" don't make any sense to me though. To my ears it's their most sonically adventurous and interesting LP, you can still hear stuff that you've missed on previous listens. That wall of sludgy guitar was their trademark on the first two albums, and it made them stand out from the crowd, but why would you want to do that again on your third?
its a good album ,not their best but overly harshly judged i felt , had the knives not been out for oasis i some journalistic circles then it would have been an unarguable success ..
I dunno, the reviews when it came out were better than the reviews for Morning Glory. Everyone had underrated that album after Definitely Maybe and it became huge so most of the press gave Be Here Now glowing write ups at first. I'd say its relative failure was simply down to the tunes not being as good and the public being disappointed in the long run. First two albums are full of classics. I don't think anything on Be Here Now matches up, even if it's got some great moments.
+greyztone Journalists were so embarrassed by how much they got it wrong with Morning Glory that you can tell they had decided to give Be Here Now 5 stars before they'd heard a note of it
Better than heathen chemistry
wow his face is drooping. does he look unwell or just old
It's a fantastic record ruined by awful production. I wish Noel could have stuck it out and remastered the whole album - the reimagining of 'D'You Know What I Mean?' is amazing!
0:03 Okay, who's the idiot that had their phone next to the camera equipment?
Biblical
Hazed : Biblical
shmiblical
Says more about Oasis fans, then how good the album is
Biblical guy??
I'm waiting for the biblical comment...Hazed ?
Noel - Why did we make such a shit album?
Rick James - Cocaine's a helluva drug
It's actually scandalous how the production is on some of the songs.
So much potential wasted ffs, there's so many great songs on there that should've been much better.
I honestly would love to see it get a remaster that is made in Noel's non-drugged vision lol
I don't like Be Here Now because it's annoying, and it's annoying because there is clearly a great great album in there, but it's too big. All the songs are massive- and sound massive all of the time. You know DLBIA when it finally get's to Noels big "SOOOOOOOOOOOOO SALLY CAN WAIT!" it's amazing right? But it's only amazing because it took time to build up to that point. In Be Here Now every line and every second sounds as big as that- which actually means that those big sing along moments never come. There's never a big sing along moment because the entire album is just bombarding you constantly. The whole album is a massive wave of noise, and it gets boring, and repetitive, and it's a real shame because those melodies are in there! They're just used in the wrong ways. If they did the album again but with that in mind you would have a great fucking album without a doubt.
This is the truest explanation of BHN, love it man
It's the weakest of the first trilogy, but still better than Noel gives credit for
Be here now is good but it’s definitely not their best album
'be here now' lp.sure the album's so bloated, overindulgent as fuck cause of cocaine.however still as classic album liam loves the album while noel fucking hated it.that's that.
It's just ridicolous how people put that album on a pedestal attached to a magical skyhook with no bolts. There is no Live Forever on it, or Wonderwall etc, obviously they think and feel with their rear ends.
I think what dissapoints about Be Here Now is that at moments feels uninspiring and pointless musically, it's not the length of the songs, but the lack of diversity in the instrumental. But still, if there is something that it makes it a good album, it's that Be Here Now still shares some of the ''musical beautiness'' of Noel as a composer, too long? maybe, but it still holds the spirit of what made Oasis great during that point even if it was it's lowest point
