The Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra was founded in 1772, and expanded in the following years to comply with the requirements of the Marques of Pombal.
The Botanical Garden has two divisions: the Classical Garden and the Mata.
The classic garden has 6 terraces in the neoclassical style, with different species of plants, lakes, fountains, a sensorial garden and a tropical greenhouse. Right at the main entrance you pass through an iron gate with bronze applications, which already deserves a few pictures. Also be sure to check out the statue of Félix de Avelar Brotero, considered by many to be the father of botany in Portugal.
Mata has about 8 hectares and is perfect for hiking. There is also the cold greenhouse of the Botanical Garden.
Since 1996 it has been considered a property of public interest.

From October 1st to March 31st:

From April 1st to September 30th:
From 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.
