I've always thought of myself as Ravenclaw and I remember I did the back then still Pottermore test like years back and got hufflepuff and was really confused. I'm so not a hufflepuff. Also not a gryffindor that much I've known. So recently I've done the Pottermore now wizzarding world test twice and got slytherin both times...kinda disappointed I didn't get Ravenclaw. At leasta at first I was. My mbti is entp and that many put to Ravenclaw and many to slytherin. My zodiac is capricorn and just as well most times it's put into Ravenclaw or slytherin. Really doesn't help to tell me where I belong. But the more I think about it...the more I think I belong in slytherin. Even if I would be more Ravenclaw now which I am totally not I would aspire to be more of a slytherin. It feels like slytherin embodies a lot of stuff I value the most. I hope I'm right. I hope the goddamn test is right.

As a Ravenclaw, everyone seems to forget about us. We are the house overshadowed by the rest . . . even Hufflepuff, the one that everyone seems to make fun of, gets more acknowledgement than us.

Would've been much better served if the trio had been split into Hufflepuff (Ron), Ravenclaw (Hermione) and Slytherin (Potter), then used Ron's relation to the other Weasleys as a bridge to Gryffindor. Explanation for why a bunch of Slytherins were death eaters, go: ok. Imagine this. You’re a pure blood. You were so very exited to go to Hogwarts. You get there and make a few friends on the train ride. You sit on the stool and hold your breath as the sorting hat is placed on your head. “Slytherin!” It calls. You are greeted, not with cheers, but with three tables yelling “boo!” At you. The only house happy for you is Slytherin. You’re 11. You’re impressionable. And the first thing that happens when you get to Hogwarts is you get booed to your table. Over something you can’t control. You go through Hogwarts being outcasted in everything you do because of what you value and who you are. Suddenly, you are promised power. You are promised a life where you can get back on all those who resented you for little to no reason. You can finally have a family. And all your family and friends are saying “Oh yeah, it’s great”. When your promised power, revenge, and a family after being an outcast for so many years, being a Death Eater doesn’t sound so bad, does it? Except you realize it’s horrible and can’t get out. You’re stuck forever.

I agree with everyone here. These are all good points. I'm a Gryffindor myself but was almost sorted into Slytherin. I think Slytherins get a bad rap, and I have some friends who are Slytherins. I don't believe they'd be stupid enoigh to join the Death Eaters, but I also know they might strive for revenge if greeted by boos and hated by the other three houses.
I bet I could even be swayed, just for a second, to join the dark side not for power, but for revenge at all those who hate me, for success and victory on the battlefield, more loyal friends and family, and glory.

I LOVE Slytherin house now that I'm older.
When I read in depth descriptions of other Slytherins, it made me feel that Slytherins are those that are very sentimental/emotionally affected. You can be very passionate about pure blood supremacy that it drives ur ambition (Salazar), you can be so protective of your loved ones that you can be cunning enough to find ways to protect them (Narcissa), you can be extremely goal focused that you might come off crass/rude/spiteful (Imelda) or you can be conflicted yet still have good heart even though you're quiet callous (Draco). And ofc the determination to pursue a cure for a loved one by any means necessary even treading through the dark path (Sebastian)

I think Draco was simply utterly and unbelievably cowardly and if you think about it, every single one of his actions can be led back to this one trait. He can't kill Dumbledore not because he is actually a good person in disguise but because he is mortified of the potential consequences of his actions. Every single one of his attempts are as indirect as possible (that's why they fail btw), to make it impossible to trace it back to him. The other case where he refuses to identify Harry is also an act of cowardy if you consider that just before he is asked, they stress how big of a trouble they are in if they summon the Dark Lord unwarranted. Draco obviously doesn't want to be made responsible for that by mistakenly identifying Harry. The ACTUAL good deed comes from Narcissa when she claims Harry is dead upon learning that her son is safe. But of course these claims are only based on the movies, since I haven't read the books in ages

People are nuanced. SOME Slytherins are braver, kinder, more selfless and loyal, than SOME Gryffindors, and vice versa.

Let's be clear, Harry Potter was a Slytherin, he was sorted into Gryffindor because he literally begged the Hat not to put him in Slytherin. He was afraid of the house because he was influenced by Ron and Hagrid against the house. But let's be honest, he belonged to Slytherin. He was cunning and ambitious all along, (it's just that living with the Dursley's he never got the chance to aspire), he was always willing to break the rules to achieve his ends no matter the cost, (remember sectumsempra?) That was completely him, not the horrocrux inside him. In the end it was a good twist of fate for Harry to be friends with Ron and Hermione, he learned strong values from them that he might never have learned from other Slytherins, but that doesn't change the fact that Harry had the full potential to be a true Slytherin.
There's the theory that Harry, Ron, and Hermione should have been in the different houses but were put into Gryffindor because they wanted it bad enough. Harry- Slytherin, Ron- Hufflepuff, Hermione- Ravenclaw.

I always seem to come back to this one. It comforts me, somehow, and it's sad and nostalgic at the same time. It reminds me of how I feel whenever I think of the Harry Potter world. To me, it's like a window. I can see what's going on, but I can't participate. But this makes me feel like I'm truly there, in the common room, with the fire crackling, scribbling my homework onto a piece of parchment, or playing Wizard's Chess with one of my classmates, or reading a fascinating book over in the corner, where I won't be disturbed.
It lets me imagine, just for a moment, that I'm a part of that world.

Ambition is a necessary part of successfully setting up international nonprofit organizations, becoming a surgeon, writing a book that talks about overcoming disabilities, becoming a movie producer to tell Black stories, starting a business that helps foster parents learn how to take care of kids with behavioral issues, and trying new treatments for mental illness.
Cunning allows you to read people and systems. Like homicide detectives or lawyers or psychologists do. It allows you to see the loopholes in insurance BS so you can get that medical equipment for your elderly aunt. It helps you figure out what the drunk guy in the bar is upset about so you can defuse a dangerous situation.
Being resourceful means you know how to go to corporations and get them to donate money and supplies. It means you're aware of your strengths and the strengths of the people who work for you so you can meet your ambitious goals better. It means that when someone knocks you down, you can find the tools to get back up.
Being a Slytherin doesn't mean you're bad. It means you're ambitious, cunning, and resourceful. How you use those traits is what makes you good or bad.
This is the best way I've ever seen someone explain it. Personally, I'm very resourceful and I know what I have to do to get what I want, and I can manipulate people into doing things I want them to do because I know how to play to my strengths, but I don't use it for bad of course, but usually I do this for selfish reasons

I love how the entire Harry Potter Fandom collectively agreed to divorce J.K. Rowling when she said that all Slytherins were evil. I love how no matter what house were in we will always stand up for our fellow Potterheads and support each other no matter what the sorting hat chooses for us. We are a family, and that is why I love this fandom so much.

Sadly, it seems she did not understand the depth of her own universe. When you think about it, a lot of things sounded already off in her own depiction of Hogwarts : everyone in their own house, at their "rightful place", I could not pic myself in any house for this reason. Only much later (at 19) I figured out that I actually fit Slytherins and I am happy that it happened to me. If you love HP unverse aside from Rowling, some fanfictions are actually awesome (please don't think of every fanfics as 50 Shades, After or 365 days shit pretty please, a few are actual good writers), I would recommend Slytherin Rising if you ever stumble on it.

A Ravenclaw can be more artistic and break the rules, but their mind always strives for knowing.
And of course, a Slytherin can be selfless and kind, however, we will never forget who we are. A house, a family, we are Slytherin."

A Gryffindor never could have been cunning enough to act as a double agent for decades. Most likely their bravery would make them fight Voldemort directly - just look at how foolish Harry acts in the face of impossible odds countless times. Snape used any means to achieve his end, which was ultimately for a good cause and was selfless. Slytherins know that being brave, or smart, or loyal, doesn't matter in a chess game. What matters is winning. This focus and determination might be used for good, or evil. Slytherin house was largely responsible for summoning Voldemort but also largely responsible for destroying him.

Ya ok, I get it's biased coming from me since I'm a Gryffindor but like you can't argue that the books stereotyped the houses unfairly. Like we are all complex people and can't just belong to one type of trait. Ya Gryffindors were praised a little too much in the books and that Gryffindors and Slytherins hated each other but we are the most similar houses in my opinion.

I have found slytherins to be the nicest people of any house. They always stick together. Where puffs swarm and attack in groups, slytherins avoid conflict. They always share their opinion when people are in need, with great wisdom.

as a slytherin myself, when i heard lily's theme i started to cry. this really touched my heart because i look at all aspects of the book and series as a whole and not as a 'cruel' side that people put against slytherins. i truly believe there is good in all houses and i think that this music is so touching to me.

Being a slytherin makes me feel at home. Everytime I watch Harry Potter and see slytherins all I feel is hope. I have always felt left out, never had anyone and if I did they always betrayed me. I have found a few friends how who are also slytherins and they are the best people I’ve met. We will together fight for our dream future and we will do anything in our power to get it the way we want it.
Listening to this I feel relaxed. I love dark arts and magic. I love power and being brave. The best decision I had was taking the potter test a few times, every time I did it I got the same results, “you’re a slytherin” I finally feel at home. We’re not bad. We just do anything we want to become who we wanna be and to get what we want.
i think Slytherins are misunderstood, a lot of them may grow more selfish and possess ill intentions, however, some Slytherins are still good and they use their cunning personality in a good way.
edit: i recently retook the potter more test and have confirmed i have changed houses from hufflepuff to slytherin! i am not ashamed in any way and neither should you, we are great and powerful. 🐍

While I'm definitely a Ravenclaw, I'm pretty sure I have a Slytherin in my family tree, this building draws me in. I love this ambiance and the mysterious, dark atmosphere of Slytherin
I'm a Slytherin, at first I thought the Sorting Hat was wrong, I thought I was much more of a Hufflepuff. But I quickly discovered that it was my "Silver Tongue" as my class mates call it, that earned me my place in the noble house. I can convince almost anyone to do almost anything, but that doesn't make me a bad person! Most of the time I influence people for good! To all those people out there who think Slytherins are evil, you are WRONG. We're just awesome in a weird, slightly unsettling way!

Gryffindors: Take stupid risks just to look good - not necessarily a bad thing, but can get you killed
Ravenclaws: Clambering over each other to get good grades - again, not a bad thing, but you need to back down at _some_ point
Hufflepuffs: Sometimes a bit _too_ helpful, don't know just when to let you be - it's good to be loyal and helpful, but sometimes people need to be left alone.
*Slytherins:* Take risks but know when to back down; match Ravenclaws intellectually - we just have that edge of cunning; we are family in Slytherin - we help each other out.
A lot of people think I should have been a Hufflepuff too, but that's because Slytherins and Hufflepuffs are both super loyal houses. I've found even in my life as a Slytherin, there's always a loyal Hufflepuff best friend nearby keeping me level headed. My strongest trait as a Slytherin is how ambitious I can be. I take on more than I can chew when it comes to my passion projects and my Hufflepuff friends are the ones to remind me of reality before I take on things I may regret trying. It's my Hufflepuff friends who helped me accept and become proud to be a Slytherin. Most of us Slytherin are good, just often misunderstood. :)
same! the first time I took it was in 6th grade, thinking I would get Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. I got Slytherin and solidly did not believe it until two years later. I took the test one time after and stuck with what I got: Ravenclaw. but I always thought, "my first time was right. that is when I answered it truthfully and totally unbiased." Every time I make a new email I take the quiz. and since then I've only gotten Slytherin. And I am proud to be one because of their amazing capabilities. Were cool as fuck.

I spent a lot of time researching how to get Slytherin on Pottermore, and which answers for each question account for each house, and sure enough, I got Slytherin. But then I also felt guilty so I took another quiz with the same questions as the ones from Pottermore and I answered honestly this time and I got Slytherin (yay) but I realized I used any means to achieve the ends even if it meant lying to a computer and spending about 1-hour researching the questions. Slytherin is the only house i feel a connection to, because the other houses don't appeal to me

The environment was peaceful in here. The crackling sounds of the torch fire and the gurgling of the cold waters against the glasses of the common room kept you company. You were scribbling down some spells into your notebook and occasionally taking glances on the seemingly endless waters of the the lake, enjoying the tranquility.
You could hear the subtle singing of the mermaids too. The origins appeared to be far away, most likely coming from the lake's deepest regions.
Just then, the door shot open and a person walked in, hurriedly. A smile crept across your face when you realized it was a dear friend. Though you'd been here for just a year, Hogwarts felt like a second home for you. You'd managed to gain popularity here and develop bonds with respected witches and wizards.
She dragged along a chair and settled beside you.
"Ready for tomorrow's Quidditch practice?" she asked as she placed her spell books and wand on the table. You replied with a nod and got back to your work. Though your schedule was packed, it never seemed daunting to you. You'd always wanted to excel in everything you did and learning about things you were passionate about never seemed like work to you.

Imagine: it's pretty late, you sit on one of the windows and play this while trying to sleep in your slytherin common room. You see the beauty of the fact that all of this is underwater. I remember when i took the "Howarts house test", i was very sad when it said Slytherin. i used to tell me : "but, i am not bad or mean :c why im not a ravenclaw or a huflepuff", so, i took 5 more test, and all of them give me the same answer "Slytherin". Then, i started to watch videos and posts that other Slytherins made, talking about the good things, and how cool it is to be slytherin. Now im happy of who i am, but i know that a lot of new fans have experience the same denial, so, im just here to tell you, young slytherins, that its okay, the comunnity is amazing, and i hope you make a lot of friends and be happy c:

It's good not done with it yet but I'm loving how it is comming along although I have see that you contradict yourself with how characters talk about what is happening after timeskips an early example is when the main heroine finally shows us a glimpse of her slythetin side you make a month time jump but draco and blaze talk about her reaction in literal terms of her just now showing her dark side in a sense the day before

I just recently found this, and it quickly has become the only thing I can fall asleep, read, do schoolwork, etc to. It reflects the darkness within all Slytherins due to how misunderstood we are but at the same times shows the beauty of darkness and of night. This ambiance is constantly playing on my phone and if I’m disturbed things get ugly...

I have a story to share with you all, when I was in middle school I was picked on and bullied by students and sometimes staff, one day when I was in my reading class, we all were told to take the hogwarts sorting quiz, this class is where the bullies I knew would pick on me, we all took the sorting quiz and the teacher said “if any of you gets placed Into slytherin I want you to stand up by me, when we are done with the quiz, all the bullies got gryffindor, hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw, only one student in that class got slytherin and it was me, I remember I was dead silent, and when the teacher asked if anyone was sorted into slytherin? I didn’t raise my hand up I walked up to the front of the class room, all of the bullies or students in that class began to make fun of me and said horrible things to me while I stood in front of all of them, I began to weep, and then the teacher did something that to this day I will never forget the teacher went over to a bag with actually chocolate frogs in them, and gave me one, the teacher told me to open it and see witch wizard or witch was on the card, it was Salazar slytherin! And then the teacher hugged me and said that they were a slytherin as well, and for all those people in that class who bullied or said hurtful things to me that day I found out they were all written up and given detention for five days! My point to anyone who is reading this is Just because you are ever sorted into slytherin do not think on it for a minute that you yes you are a person just like everyone else around you and as they say “ slytherin house will help you on your way to greatness” that quote is true because it is the truth for me

I’ve always been a slytherin, I was one before it was a trend. When I was younger everyone wanted to be a gryffindor and I was the only slytherin among my friends. People didn’t understand why I wasn’t a gryffindor like everyone. But I was proud and I’m still proud of being a Slytherin.

I always thought Slytherins were so complex, and not so evil as Rowling wanted us to think. I just think she screwed up their reputation, just like the other houses and didn’t give the other 2 houses (Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw) enough attention as they should have. I’ve always wanted to see the Hufflepuff’s and the Ravenclaw’s common rooms in Harry Potter movies and the book art on Pottermore.
Slytherins are just not scared to give people the truth, like the cold hearted truth and I respect that. Not only that, they’re everything but ‘evil’. guys, you have Snape and Regulus Black. And so many others in this comment section and in the HP community that paved the way for other Slytherins to tell them they’re not alone. Half of my friends are Slytherins and they’re so wonderful and so chaotic. I love them so much.

Congratulations! I’m Prefect Gemma Farley, and I’m delighted to welcome you to SLYTHERIN HOUSE. Our emblem is the serpent, the wisest of creatures; our house colours are emerald green and silver, and our common room lies behind a concealed entrance down in the dungeons. As you’ll see, its windows look out into the depths of the Hogwarts lake. We often see the giant squid swooshing by - and sometimes more interesting creatures. We like to feel that our hangout has the aura of a mysterious, underwater shipwreck.
Now, there are a few things you should know about Slytherin - and a few you should forget. Firstly, let’s dispel a few myths. You might have heard rumours about Slytherin house - that we’re all into the Dark Arts, and will only talk to you if your great-grandfather was a famous wizard, and rubbish like that. Well, you don’t want to believe everything you hear from competing houses. I’m not denying that we’ve produced our share of Dark wizards, but so have the other three houses - they just don’t like admitting it. And yes, we have traditionally tended to take students who come from long lines of witches and wizards, but nowadays you’ll find plenty of people in Slytherin house who have at least one Muggle parent. Here’s a little-known fact that the other three houses don’t bring up much: Merlin was a Slytherin. Yes, Merlin himself, the most famous wizard in history! He learned all he knew in this very house! Do you want to follow in the footsteps of Merlin? Or would you rather sit at the old desk of that illustrious ex-Hufflepuff, Eglantine Puffett, inventor of the Self-Soaping Dishcloth? I didn’t think so.
But that’s enough about what we’re not. Let’s talk about what we are, which is the coolest and edgiest house in this school. We play to win, because we care about the honour and traditions of Slytherin.
We also get respect from our fellow students. Yes, some of that respect might be tinged with fear, because of our Dark reputation, but you know what? It can be fun, having a reputation for walking on the wild side. Chuck out a few hints that you’ve got access to a whole library of curses, and see whether anyone feels like nicking your pencil case.
But we’re not bad people. We’re like our emblem, the snake: sleek, powerful, and frequently misunderstood.
For instance, we Slytherins look after our own - which is more than you can say for Ravenclaw. Apart from being the biggest bunch of swots you ever met, Ravenclaws are famous for clambering over each other to get good marks, whereas we Slytherins are brothers. The corridors of Hogwarts can throw up surprises for the unwary, and you’ll be glad you’ve got the Serpents on your side as you move around the school. As far as we’re concerned, once you’ve become a snake, you’re one of ours - one of the elite.
Because you know what Salazar Slytherin looked for in his chosen students? The seeds of greatness. You’ve been chosen by this house because you’ve got the potential to be great, in the true sense of the word. All right, you might see a couple of people hanging around the common room whom you might not think are destined for anything special. Well, keep that to yourself. If the Sorting Hat put them in here, there’s something great about them, and don’t you forget it.
And talking of people who aren’t destined for greatness, I haven’t mentioned the Gryffindors. Now, a lot of people say that Slytherins and Gryffindors represent two sides of the same coin. Personally, I think Gryffindors are nothing more than wannabe Slytherins. Mind you, some people say that Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor prized the same kinds of students, so perhaps we are more similar than we like to think. But that doesn’t mean that we cosy up with Gryffindors. They like beating us only slightly less than we like beating them.
A few more things you might need to know: our house ghost is the Bloody Baron. If you get on the right side of him he’ll sometimes agree to frighten people for you. Just don’t ask him how he got bloodstained; he doesn’t like it.
The password to the common room changes every fortnight. Keep an eye on the noticeboard. Never bring anyone from another house into our common room or tell them our password. No outsider has entered it for more than seven centuries.
Well, I think that’s all for now. I’m sure you’ll like our dormitories. We sleep in ancient four-posters with green silk hangings, and bedspreads embroidered with silver thread. Medieval tapestries depicting the adventures of famous Slytherins cover the walls, and silver lanterns hang from the ceilings. You’ll sleep well; it’s very soothing, listening to the lake water lapping against the windows at night.

I’m a gryffindor and was put into the pov as a 5th grader reading hp that Slytherin was evil. But I will never forget what Regulus Black, Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape and more did for us.
POV: every night the whole house sleeps in the common room just to listen to this.
Some (mostly seniors) sit around the fireplace sharing their little gossips and secrets while others just sleeping on sofas, floors or tables...
you wake up at 3am to get some water and find out there's no way to do that unless you step on some bodies or let the friend beside you take over your sleeping spot (that's basically how crowded it is)

This is so incredibly relaxing and soothing. I’m a Gryffindor; but don’t worry, Slytherins, I would never be unkind or a prejudice bully like some in my house are unfortunately capable of being; some of my closest friends are Slytherins (as well as Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs).
When I took that test which combines which two houses I’d be, I got both Slytherin and Gryffindor 💚 Hope you all don’t mind me hanging in your common room with you. I’ll bring you some homemade cookies or whatever treats you desire. I also give very good massages if anyone is needing relief from stress, headaches, pain, etc. 🎶

Proud Slytherin here, the common room is quite eerie but still has a sense of warmth to it. Its where the Slytherins can play games with each other to their hearts content, read till their eyes start to droop, Chat and gossip amongst themselves and form the best of memories with like minded, cunning, clever and ambitious students to form their house pride. Often misunderstood for evil and foolish minds, once you get to know them you will often find they have the most intriguing and intricate personalities and characters, with many hidden secrets and stories within them. They often find themselves in situations where only their mistakes, wrong doings and competitiveness will show, but spend more time with them and you will unlock a clever, proud, sophisticated and ingenious heart. Don't be fooled by the wrong doings of certain witches and wizards, most of Slytherin has a powerful but saddened heart, but, with a little bit of help to heal it, their true colours will show.
The Slytherin Dungeon is quiet, dark and beautiful. I love how you can see the black lake through the windows and how light peers through the dark water. I bet it’s cold down there though 😅 the Hufflepuff basement is quite different to this but they’re both beautiful in their own way🖤💛🖤💚🖤

As a Slytherin, this made me feel calm and safe in under 2 minutes. That's an impressive power. Excuse me while I use this to fall asleep now. (And probably forever.)

Modern Slytherins are the real anti-establishment.
Yeah, our Slytherin forerunners were the original "establishment" of blood purity. But when Harry Potter succeeded, that solidified Gryffindor as "the house to be in". Harry made Gryffindor into an elitist house - many of them still say, "I always wanted to be in Gryffindor, just like Harry Potter!" They don't stop to think about the great witches and wizards from the other houses. Minister Bagnold from Ravenclaw, Newt Scamander from Hufflepuff, and Merlin from Slytherin.
We modern Snakes have since reclaimed the respect we deserve.
All who are evil are ambitious, but not all who are ambitious are evil.
Cunning is simply a skill one can possess - whether it is used for kindness or contempt is up to the individual.
Resourcefulness is a trait which should be encouraged in all witches and wizards, regardless of house. But Slytherin produces the greatest, most resourceful wizards there are.
As a Slytherin myself (...obviously) I've found that our house alumni consists of by far the most interesting characters.
• Horace Slughorn is one of the greatest potions masters Hogwarts has ever seen. He commands respect and admiration from fellow professors and the Wizarding World at large. However, he was responsible for Tom Riddle's education on the creation of Horcruxes, a memory which he tried to repress for many years.
• Regulus Arcturus Black was a Slytherin. He used his cunning and resourcefulness exclusively to fight in secret against the Dark Lord, despite his family's wishes. A revolutionary, and a martyr for his cause. He is admired, even in death, by wizards to this day.
• Severus Snape is the most morally grey of all the characters. He bullied his students relentlessly, but he died to help save the entire Wizarding World. You can't love him, but you can't hate him. Fascinating.
To the young Slytherins who may be reading this: NEVER let ANYONE laugh at you for being a Slytherin. We are the house of greatness, achievement and determination. Never let anyone take that away from you. We proud Slytherins stick together.
