This is my own experience boxing. Step into a gym and you'll learn the hard way. Alot of undefeated fighters because the guys they fight don't take spar serious.

I literally remember when I first started and idiots were throwing bombs at me which didn't do shit for me because I was forgetting my technique all the time. They get stunned once and it's over because of that light sparring. Even Spence he gets stunned and turns away, fight hard.

The way Tyson carries himself in the ring displaying that speed and power is why he was such a dangerous boxer. Not even your best defense couldn't hold a man like that back from hurting you.

(rd 5 holyfield forgot to clinch tyson in close and paid for it with vicious body shot and uppercuts!).....not to mention the repetitive intentional head butts and PED abuse!....Holyfield was always a dirty fighter! But a GREAT "dirty" fighter! Holyfield use to train on a heavybag with a tire around it @ head height, which is how he got so good @ using his head while making the butts look accidental!
I remember when I was in Coxsackie , and the Co's used to talk about Mike being up in the Catskills training, since we were in Greene County, and we got to see him beat Trevor Berbick for the Title when he was 20. Back then ESPN has most of his fights we could watch him working up the ranks , he used to fight like once a month, where like nowadays you'd be lucky to see your favorite fighter go at it once a year. I loved his Peek a Boo style that Cus ingrained in his psyche, like Floyd Patterson,and Jose Torres, only Mike PERFECTED IT. I loved the Team that was built around Mike so sad when Cus passed , Jacobs passed, rooney was pushed out by Don King ,and the rest was History.
Growing up with a Father who was a boxing promoter in the late 70's thru 2000 I remember most that when Tyson was only 18 he was the talk because NOBODY alive that could stop this Dynamic kid who had a style that seemed beatable when he stood in front of a guy with both hands at his chin. seemed amateurish ,,,,,, but then hell broke loose and it was time to call the EMT. To this day I have to say that feeling of something special,,, a once in a lifetime fighter does not exist today. I do not care about anything he did outside of the ring because he is human. In the ring for a long time he truly was SUPERMAN !
We never got to see the best mike Tyson. He was still improving with Rooney and he hadn't peaked yet in his skills. All the progress stopped when Rooney got fired. Just imagine what he could have been

Cus D' Amato, I've watched all of Mike Tyson's fights, Including the 3 part, before & after fighting Mike comments, his opponent's said some interesting and some BS replies, Eddie Richardson was asked after being KOd if he had ever been beaten as hard as Tyson beat him, and his reply was "Yes, about a year ago, I was hit by a truck" The opponent for whom I have the greatest respect for, not making up excuses and telling the truth was Lorenzo Boyd, when asked by Larry Merchant if Tyson could beat anyone in heavyweight boxing right now, Lorenzo said "Yes, He'll Go All The Way" And when Tyson fought Pinklon Thomas, I've never seen a man take as many brutal punches to the face and head as he did, and Tyson said "I hit him with everything I had, and didn't care if he died" of course he changed that later down the road. He fired the last Trainer Connected to Cus in 1989(Kevin Rooney), after that he started digressing. Kevin Rooney kept Mike disciplined and wasn't a "Yes Man". After 1989, Mike surrounded himself with "Yes Men", who never told him No you shouldn't do that Mike you have a fight coming up.

But yeah in Mike's case its crazy, he was only 14 then and his opponent was 25.

One week ago i had a sparring match against someone 70lbs bigger than me who fought serious with hard punches,i was lucky enough to block most critical punches but even then they shooked me,cant imagine going into the ring with someone like mike who is 10 times worse,he would kill me
I'm 45 and grew up watching Tyson. a lot of fighters, we watch and see as they get older, if they last, you can see them all lose something. That thing that Tyson had, he still hasn't lost it, I don't believe he ever will. he's still fukin great .

If Tyson stayed training under Kevin Rooney and stayed away from Don King then he would be a top three heavyweight champion under Ali, Louis and Holmes. Don King, sniffing Cocaine, too much money, partying and being with the wrong crowd killed his passion for boxing and his career. Mike's true prime lasted until 1988 with his Michael Spinks fight with trainer Kevin Rooney. He was good when he fought Ruddock and other guys in the 1990s. But by then he was no longer moving his head, throwing combinations and looking for one big punch. His passion was never the same once Rooney left.

People always obsess over these 'mike tyson combos' invariably involving upper cuts, hook... 90% of what he effectively did was with a hard jab from a few different angles.
Not enough attention and respect is given to Cus. He made world champions, he was all about the mental aspects of a man and the war within yourself to push yourself. "Cus believe a fighter must train often and hard" you could say that about any endeavor. IF cuz was alive today half the world would be trying to get him on ted tlks and pod casts and the man would have none of it. He had no interest in foolish things, attention, only being your best at whatever it is you want in your life.

I went through a similar phase like you (12-16) I sparred hard everyday and had five amateur bouts. And just with that I already have some CTE. I got a stutter, my thinking speed has slowed down too. I only joined boxing I wanted to become the best fighter at my school lol. In the end I got that but it meant nothinf With this CTE, I can’t run a gang, I can’t roast people, I can’t talk shit, I can’t talk to girls, I can barely crack jokes anymore. Without my old speaking and thinking speed, life is just dogshit man. Everyday is hell. It only Happened to me because I sparred heavily daily. But i still wish I just never entered boxing

The sign of a true boxing casual is when they point out the limited talent available during the era Tyson fought in, or how Tyson wilted whenever he faced tougher opponents. They never acknowledge his freak work ethic and what that would have carried him to if Cus had been 20 years younger and Rooney had remained his trainer. It seems crazy to think he wouldn't have gone down as the greatest boxer of all time.
After rooney he stopped moving his head didn't use angles an foot work to position his opponent where he wanted them after rooney he would kinda just walk forward at you take a couple hits in the face an then try to throw a heavy punch cuz he know all he had to do was connect with one clean shot an it was lights out

I know all the glory at that time was at Heavyweight, but Tyson would have been even MORE destructive in the next weight class down. I know he weighed in the 220s for most of his career, but he often seemed so much naturally smaller than his opponents. You regularly see boxers and MMA fighters cut well over 25lbs to make a lower weight class, which Tyson easily could have done. Trust me, I very much enjoyed seeing Tyson as a Heavyweight, and he was obviously very dominant at that weight class, but when he started fighting the "big" heavyweights like Lennox Lewis he was obviously at major disadvantage. When you see Tyson today being interviewed, he often looks smaller than the interviewer or people around him. Crazy to know that he was the baddest man on earth even though he wasn't naturally huge. Same goes for Fedor in MMA for that matter.
He had fought guys as big as lennox when he was younger, When he had got to Lennox he had lost a step "speed" wise. Also, at that time he was relying solely on power punching, I think 20-23 Mike who relied more on movement would have fared better with Lennox.
I believe the real reason Mike did so well because he truly LOVED CUS ! And Mike would have done ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING for him ! And cus SIMPLY ADORED MIKE LIKE ONE OF HIS OWN KIDS ! PROBABLY EVEN MORE !!! and it shows!!!

headgears give a false sense of security, my coach said if you have an upcoming fight wearing a headgear is not recommended.
@@Rexxar582 you must be young , I've been boxing since I was 12 ,I'm 50 now.and still train twice a week...head gear is used to protect your head and face from damage. If your smart , you will protect yourself f what your coach said...,cus was the only trainer doing that
@@nothaviniteither yeah i've only been boxing for several months now. as for me it depends on who my opponent is, if its someone I know who has power in their hands, i'd wear a headgear lol. but for the most part i prefer sparring without headgear. But yeah in Mike's case its crazy, he was only 14 then and his opponent was 25.

He wears headgear in at least some of the clips here. It doesn’t prevent brain damage either. Just cuts.

One week ago i had a sparring match against someone 70lbs bigger than me who fought serious with hard punches,i was lucky enough to block most critical punches but even then they shooked me,cant imagine going into the ring with someone like mike who is 10 times worse,he would kill me

I'm 45 and grew up watching Tyson. a lot of fighters, we watch and see as they get older, if they last, you can see them all lose something. That thing that Tyson had, he still hasn't lost it, I don't believe he ever will. he's still fukin great .

If Tyson stayed training under Kevin Rooney and stayed away from Don King then he would be a top three heavyweight champion under Ali, Louis and Holmes. Don King, sniffing Cocaine, too much money, partying and being with the wrong crowd killed his passion for boxing and his career. Mike's true prime lasted until 1988 with his Michael Spinks fight with trainer Kevin Rooney. He was good when he fought Ruddock and other guys in the 1990s. But by then he was no longer moving his head, throwing combinations and looking for one big punch. His passion was never the same once Rooney left.
Don't forget his first wife had a hand in his demise.

Not enough attention and respect is given to Cus. He made world champions, he was all about the mental aspects of a man and the war within yourself to push yourself. "Cus believe a fighter must train often and hard" you could say that about any endeavor. IF cuz was alive today half the world would be trying to get him on ted tlks and pod casts and the man would have none of it. I sparred hard everyday and had five amateur bouts. And just with that
I already have some CTE. I got a stutter, my thinking speed has slowed down too.
I only joined boxing I wanted to become the best fighter at my school lol. In the end I got that but it meant nothinf
With this CTE, I can’t run a gang, I can’t roast people, I can’t talk shit, I can’t talk to girls, I can barely crack jokes anymore. Without my old speaking and thinking speed, life is just dogshit man.

Mike Tyson would have easily retired undefeated hadn’t he let his mind/inner demons get the best of him.
The sign of a true boxing casual is when they point out the limited talent available during the era Tyson fought in, or how Tyson wilted whenever he faced tougher opponents.
They never acknowledge his freak work ethic and what that would have carried him to if Cus had been 20 years younger and Rooney had remained his trainer.
It seems crazy to think he wouldn't have gone down as the greatest boxer of all time.

I know all the glory at that time was at Heavyweight, but Tyson would have been even MORE destructive in the next weight class down. I know he weighed in the 220s for most of his career, but he often seemed so much naturally smaller than his opponents. You regularly see boxers and MMA fighters cut well over 25lbs to make a lower weight class, which Tyson easily could have done.
Trust me, I very much enjoyed seeing Tyson as a Heavyweight, and he was obviously very dominant at that weight class, but when he started fighting the "big" heavyweights like Lennox Lewis he was obviously at major disadvantage. When you see Tyson today being interviewed, he often looks smaller than the interviewer or people around him. Crazy to know that he was the baddest man on earth even though he wasn't naturally huge. Same goes for Fedor in MMA for that matter.
He had fought guys as big as lennox when he was younger, When he had got to Lennox he had lost a step "speed" wise. Also, at that time he was relying solely on power punching, I think 20-23 Mike who relied more on movement would have fared better with Lennox.
