    I met Tamia doing research together in the summer of 2016 during undergrad-let me tell you, she is such a genuinely amazing person on the inside and out. She is brilliant, kind, charismatic, & her personality brightens up any room she enters. I get chills every time I see her story and how successful she has become! Dr. Potter truly has a heart of gold-I am proud to see someone who I befriended make history & inspire our upcoming generation

      Can I ask you a question? and please be honest. I am actually a surgeon also here in Philadelphia and I am a white male. My question is do you see a problem with that fact that this is 2023 and this is the FIRST BLACK female in their neurosurgery program? IT took all these years to find ONE FEMALE BLACK candidate that qualifies? Surely there were many BLACK female applicants in the past and NONE of them qualified until 2023? RACISM AT ITS BEST...WE need to do better as AMERICANS..I am so sick and tired of RACISM

      @liviaserrano7856 Před rokem +11

      If you are indeed as genuine as you convey, you’ve undoubtedly come across plenty of brilliant BLACK people. They’re everywhere!!! This ‘problem” is not exactly a secret!! The problem is in fact that SO MANY OTHERS ignore it, Doctor. Thank you for your input. Hope that was honest enough for you.

    Congratulations 👏🏽👏🏽 Dr. Potter. I did not know the percentage of Black neurosurgeons was that low. I fortunately had the pleasure of working with a Black neurosurgeon and even had the opportunity to observe one of their surgical cases.

      @kayahardin1640 Před rokem +13

      THAT'S AMAZING!! Yeah, neurosurgeons that identify as African American are quite low. That number is lower for females as you can imagine. I get very excited whenever I see fellow minorities interested in STEM 😊

    • @miketyson9540
      @miketyson9540 Před rokem

      How qualified od you think she actually is? As long as affirmative action exists and for many years after it goes away (if it ever does) many including myself will NEVER under any circumstances see an african american doctor.

    • @kayahardin1640
      @kayahardin1640 Před rokem +12

      @@miketyson9540 If you don't mind me asking, what does Affirmative action have to do with FBA aka the African Americans that were already here?? We do not receive such benefits. Asians and Hispanics benefit more from such programs than AA ever will! I would say this lady is highly qualified. This isn't the American public school system where students are passed along. If you don't meet certain standards, you don't get to progress. Simple as that.

    • @altheblessed678

      @@kayahardin1640 LOL If you believe african americans benefits form affirmative action you dont know anything. Begin LITERALLY TODAY anyone with a credit score over 680 will be forced to pay a 40 dollar premium going directly to those with a lower score. WHY? Because people with lower scores tend to be black or brown. In EVERY western country standardized testing has been thrown out. The only question which remains is how many white men with much better skills got passed over for this black girl.

I also believe they shouldn’t be fighting for attention on social media, trying to become makeup or self proclaimed relationship “gurus” or gossip ”journalists” or up and coming rappers. As you might know, we’re often told we’re not “black” or white enough to become or pursue certain careers or interests. Comments like these deserve a lot more likes.
