VIDEO CORRECTION: Hey guys! Mary here. At the 5:30 mark of this video the GOOD/BAD text should be reversed. The image on the left side of the screen is BAD and the image on the right side of the screen is GOOD.
I just had to watch this again due to that! Lol! Thanks for the correction! I was starting to think I was REALLY messed up! Ha ha! Great video, as always.
Once again Mary saving Eric's butt. LOL
I knew it! I caught that and I said, is that right? Thanks for clarifying!! Great video
Haha I was totally like “wtf, the ‘BAD’ looks significantly better”
Darn. I thought I had it!! lol
This past week I played 2 beautiful golf courses in Hot Springs Village...I've never pulled my shots....usually a straight hitter! Both times I pulled all my irons and drives. This video will help me figure out what I did wrong. Thanks Eric
Hope it serves you well!
Best video! This was so helpful. I will watch this over and over. 🙌🏼
Love to hear! Thanks Tash!!
Thanks for all the easy to follow swing instruction. Used this video and the twist away method video to break through to the 70’s. Shot a 75 today from the tips and the swing just felt so solid. 🤙🏻
Love it Jeffrey!!
Very helpful! I liked how you used the ball bucket and alignment rod to do the drills. Easy to do and does not require an overpriced golf aid. An excellent video that I will use to help a big problem many of us have. Well done!
Thanks! Appreciate you being here with us!
The shoulder back/down, and then turn on the backswing is such great advice. I've had a horrible hook (especially with woods) this season, so I preset my shoulder back/down and turn on the backswing. Cleared it up. Thanks Eric!
Our pleasure, Ben! Thanks for watching the channel!
Took that shoulder pulled back to the course today & it works like a charm. Not one straight pull today & I usually have a few of those. Now I didn't point my shoulder down so I will try that next time. Thank you Eric! This tip has been tremendously helpful!
Glad to hear that---our pleasure!
Great video Eric, been suffering from pulls with the ball out of the heel. Went through the shoulder back and down exercise, immediately saw an improvement.
Love to hear that, David! Thank you!
That was excellent Eric. I was dealing with this issue of pulling now I know how to correct it. Thank you.
You got it Luke! Thanks for watching!
Thank you 🙏 appreciate your knowledge of the golf swing !!!
Our pleasure James! Thanks for being here with us!!
omg u fixed my ott with the trail shoulder down and back. omg. thank you Eric!!!! awesome just awesome!!!
:)
This is very helpful I struggle with this pull and I am looking forward to trying this out
Hope it helps Richard!
This video was MADE for me!! Thanks, Eric,
:) You're quite welcome, Martha!
Excellent lesson. Going to work on it. Right wrist lessons have really helped my ball striking too
Thanks Chris!
One of your best drills thx.
Thanks Ron!!
SO GOOD....Your stuff is great Eric!!
Really appreciate it, David!
unlocked my swing. cured my toe hits and pulled shots. thank you!!!
Love to hear it!!
Eric, you are outstanding at explaining in detail and patiently, thanks!
appreciate that!
Great video, it’s really helped me
Thanks Billy! Happy to hear it!
Thanks!! When one tends to get lazy this is what can happen. Much needed recently I realize.
You got it!
Good drills ! Thanks!
Thanks! Our pleasure!
This video really helped me. Struggled with toe hits - hard pull left. Now - center of the face and even a bit of draw. Took a long time but trusted it.
Happy to hear this my friend!
Excellent tuition - thank you.
Thanks, Rich!
Eric, te felicito por el Drill. Lo considero muy aclaratorio y me ha ayudado muchísimo. Mil gracias. Marcelo de Chile.
Appreciate you!
Fantastic video Eric 👍
Thank you Tim!
Another great video! Thanks!
you got it, William! Appreciate it!
Thank you for making this video!
You got it :)
eric, very useful video for me, also i had a plastic coat hanger taped to one of my clubs but finally found the real thing. it was a bit high priced but i got it and it really helps with a stable wrist and clubface.
100% Steve
Same here...I held out for like 3 years but once I got one I think it works MUCH better....easier to feel as its thicker AND not having to hold on the side of the club MUCH better
I'm putting my swing back together after some years away from the game due to a bad left knee. After a TKR, I can swing w/o pain, so I'm starting to play again. I'm a very strong 68, thanks to backpacking and walking two big dogs 5 miles a day, but the flexibility in my back is still a work in progress. If my posture is off, it's very hard to make a good swing. I've cleaned this up quite a bit, but recently have focused on the slope or lack of it in the shoulders vs the back. If I slope my shoulders a bit, turning them steep enough is a lot easier - it doesn't feel like I'm having to force a steeper plane.
What really triggered the feel for this is imagining picking up a heavy object like a 10lb barbell and swinging it back and through to toss it along my setup line. If your shoulders are not sloped enough, this is hard to do. In turn, setting up as if I were going to toss a weight frees up a steeper shoulder turn. A younger, more flexible, player might not notice the difference so much, but for an older player, turning in a steeper plane than your shoulders/top of spine is hard.
This has been my nemesis for decades...I am excited to rig up a station and begin working on this as well as Clay Ballard's tuck and turn solution. One thing I have noticed on your swing: At left arm parallel, your back is already completely turned and the club is vertical. If I can get to that position, I can hit the ball much better from the inside. Thanks so much for this wonderful video.
You got it---hope it helps!
Great analysis to the problem. I find I do this with my hybrid sometimes...my start line start left of where I am hoping to start it. To help solve the start line
I also duck my back foot out a bit to accommodate the shoulder down and back. For most clubs the side of my foot would be pointing about at my target...with my hybrid It points about the width of the right side of a small green to help me get the hybrid to start more on line. This also gets rid of a hook with my hybrid...nothing worse than a hook that start left of the target line.
That works!!
Great video Eric, thanks!
Thank you! Our pleasure!
Man, I've been playing since I was 10, I'm 35 now and I've always had this problem. Now I don't know if it's because I just had bad coaching in high school and there in after as well, but I have never understood this method better than this video I just watched. I thank you sir, and I am hoping this takes me far in my golf career.
👊Hope this one serves you well!
Excellent video I’m going to do this tomorrow
Thanks, Paul!
Cogorno is a great instructor all teaching and minimal talking.
Thanks, Rodney!
Great video, solved my problem. I live in Cannes in France.
Love to hear it, Ernst! Thank you!
Nice video clearly one of my main issues right now. Coming over the top tries everything out of synch. Very well explained on how to manage that back shoulder.
Hope this one helps Dean! Thanks for watching!
Thus is great. Best tips for pulls I have seen. This is my poor shot. Quite often a low pull when I also hit behind the ball. Really frustrating shot!!!
R
Jim
Thanks, James! Hope it helps!
Such a great video with clear instructions. Well done Eric! Love your videos, they are helping me a ton. At this rate I may well be on tour soon 😂😂
Haha I appreciate that! Let me know.....maybe I'll come out and caddy :)
I have this problem Eric. My pitching wedge and nine iron, my scoring irons, are the biggest culprit. Many thanks for your great informational videos.
Our pleasure John! Thanks for watching!
Check your lie angles.
Lie angle effect is a function of loft.
Higher loft more affect .
Of thousands of clubs I've fitted the vast majority were too upright. Which sends the shot left for rt handers.
Thank you so much. This video cured my shanks and prevented me from having a complete breakdown
Love to hear that this one helped your game, Richard!
Ageless video. I was playing well at the end of last season and this reminded me of the change that made a difference. Tilting a bit down/back even with irons in hand. Can't wait to work on this again. p.s. what I'm battling now is a pull-hook that degenerates into the sh@nks. I believe it's because I'm way over-the-top and a closed face. Even some good strikes are on the inside of the face. I'm confident that this is the fix I needed.
Hope this one helps my friend!
This video is pure gold.
Thank you!
Sweet, thanks for the validation. This is pretty much exactly what I started doing the other day to get rid of the over the top pulls and it's been working a treat. Been hitting them so much better and straighter. I've also been concentrating on keeping my head behind the ball at impact which I find has helped a lot as well. Good advice. 👍
Excellent! Glad to hear that, Russell!
Hi Eric, great video. I thought from the title you would suggest a lateral tilt to the right as the first move in transition. I have tried this and it has had three effects. I actually transfer more weight to the left, my path goes more right and also almost as important it makes my angle of attack a little shallower giving me a better strike and a ton more distance. Now working on making it an unconscious move i.e. do the move while only seeing the shot and target.
Yep its ONE of the parts for sure....went over that here:
czcams.com/video/CEsxQyxMM_w/video.html
This is by far one of the main swing flaws I have, coupled with a flip. Extremely frustrating because I'll start a round with decent swings on the fairway, but as soon as I get a lie where the ball is below my feet, or I get fatigued physically, or frustrated mentally, old habits start creeping back. Thank you for this, I'll make sure this is part of my main swing thoughts.
Hope it helps!
I’m a 10 handicap that fights a pull left and it keeps me from lowering my scores. This video was the best piece of advice I’ve ever had. I hit balls today using this setup and it worked amazingly! Thank you for making this video, I can’t wait to use it during my next round.
Love it Jason! Hope it serves you well!
@@CogornoGolf Same here, 12 Handicap. Practiced in my Sim yesterday and hit some amazing Irons today. Still had a few pulls, but still on the green. Shot 1 under on the back nine. FYI, I hit my driver straight and long as well
Eric, this is brilliant. I’ve always pulled the ball and instructor was telling me I need to hit in to out without explaining how. Looks he was right but couldn’t help me fix it. I guess I need a new coach!
:) Appreciate you being here with us, Chris!
Fantastic vid Eric! Really comprehensive explanation. I’ve needed this for a long time. I often hit some hooks and try to hit fades to straighten out ball flight but hit pulls instead. Gonna try some of this. Thank you ☺️
You got it Christian---hope it serves you well!
Fabulous. I would love, love to see a shot tracer installed. Spend some of your pile chum. 👍
Agreed :)
Great video
thanks Steven!
Eric, can you check the 5:30 mark. Are good and bad titles mixed up?
Agree
OOPS....yup....my bad---sorry about that!
Eric you and Clay Ballard are tops in the game of instruction. BTW….great video…..did someone send you a video of my swing?? Lol this is my major issue!!! Thanks again for the great instruction.
Looking out for ya Garry :)
This is a game changer for me.
excellent!
I skipped this video until today but figured out part of this myself at the range. I wasn't getting that trail shoulder all the way back and realized I was losing distance. After watching this I also realized that I was pulling a lot of shots. The moral of the story is, when Eric puts out a video, watch it right away!
:) Thanks, Jim!
Thanks!
Our pleasure!
Eric,
I think you could teach a rock to swim. Your comment about turning back enough to allow the hands to come down from the inside is huge. Thank You.
Lol thanks, Mike :)
You are quite welcome!!
Excellent thanks Eric. I need some help: my iron shots are shanking, more of a glancing blow, what is the easiest fix? I there anything the shoulders should do to avoid open club face?
Hey Claudio!
I would need to see your swing on video to say for sure...could be a few things.
Join our team at www.cogornogolf.com you can send in your videos there
here is a place to start: czcams.com/video/nC-dVMXehqQ/video.html
Hey Eric, great video. Is it possible to pull draw/hook from the inside but have a pivot that's too far behind the ball (moving the plane)? When I've been on Trackman with a coach, I've often been too far from the inside and very shallow AoA. Thanks!
Thanks, Chris!
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "but have a pivot thats too far behind the ball (moving the plane).....can you phrase that different for me?
Can you pull draw/hook with swing path from inside?
-Absolutely
-That means your club face is too closed (could be GRIP too strong, wrist angles too strong, too much arm/shoulder rotation, etc)
If you are PULL HOOKING or hooking with these shoulder feels I mention your MAIN ISSUE is very very likely your club face is too closed. You need to fix that first
Another fabulous video. Fun fact, the golf course I work at Milo Lines played in a pro am today, he shot 64, first time seeing the course, and it's not that easy
Thanks, Zach!
Good stuff---he is a stud!!!
This is a key tip.
:)
I like your take on Clay Ballard's video because it is a setup fix rather than an in swing fix (headcover in armpit while swinging). Here is a question. When setting up should you get your target before you do the back and down or after? Also, assume you have a 160 yard shot into the green and the flag is dead center, should your target be inside left edge of the green or inside right edge of the green (assuming I pull the ball)? Thank you for this video.
Hey Jim!
1. After
2. Right edge
This simple shoulder fix definitively works! Played my first round trying it on Monday and not one pull!
Glad this one helped my friend!
Great video Obi Wan, I focus on my shoulders when I hit shots. Every so often, this happens and I go back to your drill of club across chest then rotate right shoulder DOWN and through works like charm, bye bye pull. 👍👍
Yes! Getting the right shoulder DOWN enough on the way through is KEY!
@@CogornoGolf 👍🙏
👍
Do the lead shoulder too.
Your swing is really looking good.btw.
Thanks man!!
Mustard drills Coach. Need more of these drills I can do at the range. In the UK we don’t have many practice areas on grass
You got it---thanks Mark!
When I got back into golf ⛳️ around September 2020 I started to make a more full right shoulder turn. But I wasn’t keeping the club face closed on the takeaway. I realized that driving a taxi cab for forty eight years I was conditioned to not take a full right shoulder turn. Talking with people in the backseat meant being unable to turn to face them. My right shoulder movement was inhibited.
Love it
Need to have launch monitor for these classes so we can see the ball flight please please please
Agreed! Sorry about that---working on it!
Love this Eric! The only problem I'm having now with this is rotating in the backswing while keeping the face square. Is this setup supposed to restrict my turn?
Thanks AJ!
1. Rotating in backswing while keeping face square--- I would need to see WHY that would be happening. Simply adding more turn SHOULD NOT make the face more open so not sure whats going on there. I would look to have less forearm rotation/shoulder rotation in backswing like this
czcams.com/video/lk8YHElvmxs/video.html
2. Setup restrict turn---no not really.
@@CogornoGolf Thanks a bunch for your feedback Eric! You are by far the best golf instructor on YT.
I find sometimes my hips stop rotating on the downswing, my shoulders overtake my hips, and the result is a pulled shot. As Hogan said, "The hips lead the shoulders throughout the downswing.".
For sure!
That is exactly my problem. I pull or pull hook every shot, every club. Maybe a pronounced hip bump would help ala Hogan like you said
I gave golf away for a while because of always pulling shots. i've always been a swimmer and surfer and have big lats..does body type come into any of this? I was at the range today and rocketing them out to the left consistently, i feel if i could just get them to straighten up it would awesome. .so frustrating. I will try this out. right shoulder drop and back.thanks for the tips
Please tell me the graphic at 5:34 is backwards?
OOPS yup--my bad! Sorry about that!
I get the ball placement with the irons. But what is ball placement with driver to help avoid pulling the shot?
I like to see the ball position under lead armpit for driver....if you pull make sure its not forward of that.
More in like with LOGO potentially could help
Want to avoid too far forward
Will this help in shallowing the club path?
Yep
Eric. I'm a scratch golfer, and recently in tournament play, I've developed the pulls on just about every swing. On every ball you hit, you indicated that it started to the right then turned back to the target (draw). I've always played a fade and don't want to change that. If I follow your 3 tips here, will it change my ball flight from a fade to a draw? What would I need to do differently, if anything, to keep my fade when following your 3 steps? Thanks
Hey Mel!
If you are pulling the ball as consistently as you say, then give this a go to the point where you see the ball flight you want. We can overdo/underdo anything in the golf swing. Give it a try and find what feels get you back to a controlled fade!
@@CogornoGolf I'll do that. I felt the difference on my Simulator and think it's something I can work with and fine tune. And you never know. I might end up liking the draw. I'll update you in a few days. I've watched all the top instructors on CZcams for weeks looking for a solution. Yours finally made since with the "down & back". I can't wait to work with it. Thanks again
@5:32 are those reversed? Right looks like a better turn and position.
Yes I was thinking the same thing.
OOPs...my bad---sorry about that!
@@CogornoGolf All good. We're picking up what you're putting down! Great videos.
It'll be an adjustment to do this. I'll probably end up duffing it and hitting it more fat because of keeping things down.
Hope you find a good solution :)
Switch the good and bad! First one that is.
Sorry about that!!
@@CogornoGolf I’m just happy I can tell the difference! Good stuff E.C.
The OTT move happens when the trap muscle engages in the right shoulder(right hand swinger).
The only way to stop the engagement of the trap muscle is to keep the right palm facing the sky
from top of BS through impact. Guaranteed, there is no other way. Its how the body have evolved.
Keep the right palm facing the sky, through impact and the body will keep turning to square the clubface.
It how Ben Hogan eliminated the left side of the golf course.
:)
Thanks to Gerry Hogan, author of The Hogan Manual of Human Performance: GOLF, 1991
who took the time(years) researching human physiology as well as golf swing more thoroughly than any other.
OmG - if your not doing theses drills -.you don’t I want to be the best golfer you can be - amazing golf lessons- just think of you get a membership how much better you’ll be - - keith
Haha love it Keith! Appreciate the support man!
That's an excellent way to turn a pull into a.. hook!.. ;)))
Same basic principle for the driver?
Yep
You’re not mentioning the weight issue. I believe that the weight is more towards the heel than the instep.
Thanks for the feedback Frank! Cant cover everything in every video of course!
or straight "right" for we lefties. :) Doc Phil
:)
Always feel like my body rotation is pulling my club to the left.
Hey Jordan! Yes it will....need to make sure the club is coming from inside as the body opens to offset it
Shoulder underneath is the key. If it doesn’t go underneath I flip and close the clubface
100%
10:50, that guy lazing the sun?
Having a pull or pull hook as your miss has to be thr absolute worse...it goes a mile and is completely uncontrollable...its a devastating miss, especially a pull hook....card wrecker...im gonna give this a try, im at mt wits end trying to cure this thing
agreed!
Teal shirt guy in back bought a small bucket and hit a large bucket worth of balls
Have to report in. This morning I watched your video on the shoulder and then played this afternoon. I had my BEST GAME EVER. I cannot believe how much I am learning on my game from Clay Ballard and today you. Thanks again. 5 over par!!! 73 y/o lady golfer.
Love to hear that, Gail! Awesome playing....let's keep it rolling!!
I hate when I see myself in the 'bad' frame; I mean, that is me times 100, that's me...bad bad bad bad, I suck...bad shoulders bad shoulders....suckk suck suck...thanks for helping me unsuck myself.
Hahah I hear ya....hopefully the "fixes" help ya :)
Sound volume seems low.
Sorry about that-thanks for watching!
Video part 5:31 minutes: Good and bad title
mixed up
OOPS yup--my bad! Sorry about that!
Initial Good and Bad shoulder split screen is switched
This dude has taken my game from an 11 handicap to a 3.1. Never sending my friends any links from his channel ever. Sorry Eric 🤷🏿♂️
Lol love to hear that its helped----and thats OK....let's keep you in the lead :)
The dude that is searching for his tee gives me anxiety
